Breaking news: Intellivision flashback coming to retail
mdoerty replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
In reading the thread, it appears that the broken street date has been a ToysRUs phenomenon for the most part. In other words, I don't recall any Dollar General leaks, which is good since that is the version I will seek. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. -

Looking forward to this one. -
The homebrew flood ... good thing, right?
mdoerty replied to Fushek's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Whether we call it homebrew or after market or something else, I just enjoy playing them. -
Looks interesting! Can't wait to hear more.

I am not so technically proficient as to replace the drive myself. Plus the memory issue is what really led to the lost game saves.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop and up-to-date on this. Also, just to confirm about the CV, is it the same as the Intelly with the extra game version at Dollar General? -
JetPack! available for sale - ColecoVision homebrew
mdoerty replied to 5-11under's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Is this still available? I only learned of it yesterday. If so, What is the time table for batch #2 as it appears the first run is accounted for. -
Twice actually. The drive on my original Wii died. So I had to send it back (also found was some internal memory issues, which meant a few saves could not be transferred over). My son spilled water on his 3DS and killed the touch screen. It too had to be shipped back and was replaced. Unfortunately, all the internal data could not be saved. It should be noted that Nintendo systems do let you transfer from one unit to another, if both are in working order. The 3DS has had that capability for its entire life and a limit to the number of transfers was lifted in the last year or so. The Wii U is getting that capability in the current system update.

I got real lucky. I bought mine, albeit loose, for $2 in 1983 or 1984. -
I understand the reasoning behind tying a ROM to a specific LTO. It is interesting though that Nintnedo uses basically the same approach to its digital sales and gamers generally dispise them for it. They complain that they cannot just reload games when buying replacement units. It also means that when a unit fails, you have to spend it back to Nintendo so it can transfer the games or change your replacement unit's "identity" to make it work with your purchased games. Considering I have two Wiis, two 3 DSs and a WiU, I must not have much of a problem with such a policy.

@Intvnut @GamesforYourIntellvision Thanks for the updates. I imagine I will be in the first or second batch. And I know of no one in the Intellivision community who does show-only items (though there have been some special editions), but it never hurts to ask to be sure. Is there a webpage or separate thread with more specific details about the LTO Flash!?

An Intellivision Fan's Message to Current Developers

Yes. Cursed iPad keyboard. And most people do my reasonably good job. But one reason that there are relatively few new/homebrew Intellivision releases is that the system has some unique technical requirements and because almost everyone wants the game in retail condition (box, book, overlay, plus cart). This is not other systems where people dump out loose cart/a on a regular basis. -

Actually, Nintendo used to limit companies to five games per year on the NES. Maybe we could pout a group in change and limit each manufacturer to two. j/k -
Some basic questions about sales and ROMs. What will the sales possibilities be for those of us not going to CGE? I think it is a great place to debut a product and even sell special versions. But I have always felt no product should be just available at a single show. Will there be a limit on how many are made? Or how many someone could buy? I would hate to see some individuals get half a dozen if that meant others could not a limited run product -- at least until initial demand is met. I imagine this is BYOR (Bring your own ROMs). So I guess it woud be up to individual game makers/cart publishers whether and at what cost to make ROMs available for recent releases. Is that correct? Looking forward to hearing more information. Product cost is fantastic. Having this would make me much less worried about trying to link up my Intellicart in a world without serial ports.

Sounds like something useful. I am fortunate that I have an Intellicart and a CC3. But I know most do not.
-
You could have just said multicart. 8*>

I think some people have unreasonable expectations on what it takes to deliver homebrew games. People don't seen to realize that in the pre-Internet days, 6 to 8 weeks for mail order was not usual when dealing with smaller companies. And i think everyone making Intellivision games in 2014 falls into that category. -
Stupidest thing I ever did was not buy a videoplexer back in the day for $25, hoping it would fall to $20. (OK, not truly the stupidest, but still pretty stupid).

Bill, thanks for your work on this. I plan to get the Dollar General version. I have all the overlays (except for some Homebrews which I miss-filed). Overlays are in almost every case over-rated. INTV limited which games had them and few CV games ever had them. -

I understand all of that. I was just checking to see if you could say anything with regard to a timetable on when the game lists may be officially announced.
