Cool ok, thanks... Good thing I did a continuity check first I like the location of the vias in the mod you posted, made the install a bit easier... Jay

If you don't have a voltmeter, you can try a flashlight bulb or an LED and see how bright they are.
-
That's the right way. Something else then... Jay
-
When you installed the battery, is the "+" Side on the bottom or top? Jay
-
Just thought I'd mention it, anyway I wired mine up and it works too Jay
-
I didn't mean soldering those to the IC's Those were reference points... You show the Brown wire on the left and Pink on the right?, Via on left going to pin# 36 and the Via on the Right going to Pin# 40? I was checking your pic and Sebastian's on wiring as I was installing the U1MB in my 130xe and did a continuity check noticing your Labels appear to be backwards... Jay
-
Sloopy, did this install work? Reason I ask is that it looks like you have R/W and RESET backwards? SALLY has Pin 40 as RST and Pin 36 as R/W... Jay
-
Congrats on your repair Yep, most LSI's and other IC's can take quite the beating and still run flawlessly And other components can disintegrate by looking at them wrong or by just a touch... Jay
-
LOL, I understand the feeling, but I've used this method for many years and have had lots of experience in soldering... Jay

At what temp? sloopy. It's from rat shack: 64-2070C, their page says temperatures up to 600-640°F... I should point out that the iron isn't on there the whole 2 minutes, that's just how long it takes to remove Jay
-
Yep, I only use a 25 watt iron...

A few questions from a prospective owner
AtariGeezer replied to duckisking's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
That's the full keyboard as shown in your link... B-Key is the name of the keyboard. I think Best Electronics or B & C might still have them? -
I finally got a 130xe prepped for installation, removed both OS & Basic ROM's and the MMU without damaging the chips or mobo. Tomorrow I'll get some sockets and finish the install My technique for removal is to put a few large solder blobs with fresh flux along the 2 rows of pins, then while applying heat to all pins on a row at once, I use a jewelers screwdriver to pry it up each end. Only takes about 2 minutes going from side to side to pop the chip out. Then use a sucker bulb to blow out each hole... This may be a bit bizarre, but it works for me Jay

I picked up an Atari 400 with the B-key full keyboard with a 64k card (at least was it says on the board) on ebay a couple of months ago for $44.00 That was one I was looking for awhile and it works nicely... They still pop up from time to time. Jay -

Another thing to look out for in listings is "It worked last time I plugged it in", which usually means "it's dead, I just want your money"... Jay -
What is the advantage in hooking up the HALT line on the 800XL? On Sebastian's site, I've read where it connects to ANTIC, but the install pics only show the other 3 wires connected... I added the HALT line to the plug just in case, but right now that wire goes nowhere else. Jay

Ohhhhh k...

It will run on Linux/Mac too if you use Wine/Parallels Jay

True, if ran on an NT based OS and you're not logged in as Administrator, then you need to right-click on AtrTools.exe and select "Run As", then choose "Administrator" from "the following user" and type in your password... I'll either add code to set the proper permissions to save the font file in the install folder when first ran or just package it in the installer and save the settings in the registry instead of an .ini file... Jay
-
For now, yes Jay

Okay, I made some changes so that the VTOC Check will call the proper procedure for the different DOS formats. SpartaDos and MyDos checkers don't do anything yet... Also changed the file viewer to show binary files better. Jay AtrTools1.zip

Could you post the image so I can verify the fix?

Atarimax Flash Cartridge v SIO2SD - which is best?
AtariGeezer replied to stevelanc's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
SIO2SD does work on 400/800, it's just that the rev 3.xx Fast I/O doesn't. I have rev 2.5 firmware in mine and runs fine on my 800... Jay -
The VTOC check currently only works with SD and ED images. Do you have Sparta-Dos compatibility on your to-do list? Yep, MYDos too... Did you use the installer or just the update? and which windows OS? Jay
