  1. Hmmm, interesting... That was one thing I was going to do was compare video circuitry between the xl's and xe's before I added that section on the mobo.

I went through the schematics making up a list of parts and compared my list against yours and looks like i"m ready to start soldering components today :)

Still need to get a 40watt iron to remove the TV Modulator from a 800XL...

Looks like those folks who bought multiple 1450 mobo's (>2), are treating those like 40k diamonds and don't want to let one go. I too am still looking for a 2nd to build up, but no one else besides mimo has contacted me... Hopefully we'll find another gracious soul to build our 2nd 1400/1450 :)

  2. I will update again very soon to reflect some additional information that is in this thread but wasn't in the BOM when I posted (like the modem xformer P/N that worked well and why to never use W4) but there are no errors in the BOM already posted and only three or four items will have additional information added about them.

    cheers,

    c

Corey, I went through the messages in this thread and saw one difference in the BOM:

    Is C134 a .1uf 10v Electrolytic or 1uf 10v Electrolytic?

Did you find a source for the relay? looks similar to what I have seen in some ham radios...

P.S. have you had a chance to update the BOM?

  3. I love all my Atari's, A8's and ST's...

They were a great learning experience in programming for me, besides playing games on

Learned basic, forth and 6502 assembler on the 800 and the ST taught me 6800 assembler, pascal and C#...

I wrote a few programs on the ST for Express BBS ST, FTU the "File Transfer Utility" that patched into the original BBS program replacing it's file section and I was the original author of the Script Language Decompiler (never should've released that code!)

I first got a 520 and upgraded it to 1 meg and added the overscan mod to it, later got a 1040 and upgraded it to 2 meg and added a Vortex 286/386 board to it when I was in Germany, plus the overscan mod in that as well...

The ST's were my first experience with using MIDI, went out and got a new CZ-101 just to play the midi songs, it was really cool, plus it helped to refresh my memory on playing a keyboard :)

  4. Well, thanks to Mimo, I now have my first 1450 motherboard to build :)

I have some XL's on the way that I'll use for part donors and #1 order to Best Electronics for PAL-A, PAL-B, Freddie, S6551 and some modem XTALS is on the way.

Already received the SC-01-A chips, time to make a list of parts for an order to Digikey. The 74LSxxx IC's will be bought at the local electronics stores. Also bought 4 PAL16R4's on ebay, just need to find a way to program them now (Hint, Hint :) )

( Hey cool, post# matches my old Boy Scout Troop # )

  5. Hoard?!? ;-) But I only have one 600XL and one 800XL with no back-ups! That's only 5 Atari 8-bits altogether. (I sold my 400, 2 800's and 2 130XE's!)

    Better start buying more ;)

    I now have 2 400's, 4 800's, 8 800XL's, 2 1200XL's, 4 130XE's and 2 XEGS's with 2 600XL's, 1 800XL and another 1200XL on the way :-D

  6. My main concern is that over time, my other cassettes will deteriorate as well and will no longer work, and because of that I really want to backup those cassettes to disk as it seems a little more stable.

Your tapes may still be good, but your 410's belts might need replacing. I found out this myself with my 410 that's been sitting 15 years...

  7. Okay, it's working now, but I had to change the ckeckboxes in "My Settings"

    Under > Topics & Posts

[x] Auto follow topics I reply to. Notification frequency

You'll see that the [x] Auto Follow checkbox is checked, but all others under this section were not.

After I put a check mark on the boxes under the email column, I started getting mail again :)
