Really!
And we're in Vista. Not too bad a schlep for you. What kind of machines you got?

I don't have a Mega-STe, but have most of the rest A8's and ST's

Espressif who designed the ESP-01 states the default is actually set to 115200, but depending on the 'source' of the particular ESP-01 you have, could be set at nearly any baud.
I used an Arduino Mega 2560 to program the baud rate down. I also used the development board to setup the ESP-01 to connect to my wireless network through the Arduino software serial monitor program. Now I'm sure you can go with a smaller arduino development board a UNO or something like it.
I'm beginning to think the ESP-01 module I received has corrupted firmware. It should be working normally on a PC and it isn't. I've got a replacement ESP-01 coming from a second source along with a firmware USB programmer module coming too. Should be here by the end of the week.
Thanks for the info, also been reading up on changing the baud rate and it seems that if you use the wrong AT command to set the baud rate, it can brick the ESP-01, but only needs to be reflashed with the current AT Firmware to use AT+DEFBAUD=9600,8,1,0,0.....
:Lots of info on this bugger on the web.

I used the appended tool to program
the ESP-01.
(yes, you have to add a simple switch
to choose between programming mode
and user mode... but simply plug into USB
slot and use a serial terminal to
operate it for the first steps)

To configure or program / flash?
From reading about these, you need to add a jumper between 2 pins plus add a switch to GPIO to enable programming.

From what I've read, the ESP-01 is initially set to 57,600 baud and you need an Arduino or Sparkfun board to configure / re-program it.
At the moment I have BobTerm set to 19.2k and it doesn't return "OK" when AT<return> is sent. Even tried slower baud rates too.
When powered up, the Red LED comes on and the Blue LED flashes when it sends the initial "ready" message...

So how do you configure the ESP-01 for 9600 baud?
I now have mine wired up and can see data and it responds to keystrokes too. Had TX and RX backwards

The 74LS00 is used in the R-Verter circuits and the driver is on those ATR's.
I plan on making another board to use in the XLE / XLD too
It will have a 5 pin header on that and just use a cable to plug it in...-

Ok now I see what you are doing. You use the cassette motor signal to enable the final NAND gate in each pair to allow SIO communication to pass through to and from the ESP-01.
You are correct Sir

It looks like you have the ESP-01 piggybacked onto the ESP adapter board. Like mine. I think it adapts the normal +5V power to 3.3V power that the ESP-01 has to have.
I don't know if it is a TTL data leveler though. I know mine will work directly tied to the Mega2560 Arduino without the additional chip in the circuit. I was able to ping www.google.com
I believe if it is from Both's schematic then it is a 74ls00.
Yrs, the IC is a 74LS00.
The Adapter board provides the 5v to 3.3v ;level shift by the use of Q1 and Q2 as sown in this schematic:

No other SIO devices connected. Using the CF3 IDE device by Mytek for disk access. I don't think it uses the SIO interface.
So, if you get a response from the ESP8266 when you pull / reset the GND Leg, but no response when sent any keystrokes, then it sounds like the TXD line is being kept in a low state somewhere in that path?
-
However no response to AT commandI tried flipping the Data_IN and Data_OUT lines and did not get any response when the GND cable was disconnected and reconnected.
Will check other two programs later tonight and report response.
Tried with Both circuit as assembled per previous post. No joy.
Do you have the Sio2pc-usb module connected to a PC's USB port?

Try Nov 79 QST
J-Driven Macrotonics M800 RTTY in a search and see what you find... the rtty system should be explained and prolly near the same
there might be home brew software or even an old ham with the disks you seek, so search out some ham forums and put the word out for specifically what you are looking for.
The Macrotonics M800 is an hardware kit for the trs-80. Will have to look for it

I've been talking to other old ham operators an no one so far hasn't heard of the RM-1000.
The joy port connection is what I have coded so far, but looks like I need to replace some op-amps and a few other IC's to get mine fully working again.
An RTTY decoder is the first program I made using the Assembler Editor cart in 1984

Edit: found a copy of that issue and it describes what the m800 is...

I would love to get something like this "just in case".
Another one just sold on ebay: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 323416161261

Ok, but that makes no sense.
I want to boot up my 1088 into SDX and then run ICET off the CF card.... and have it use the 850 to connect to the serial to wifi.
If I can't boot a drive to get the 850 to load how do any of the comm software/term software work?
Also I don't have any modems anymore to test with this.
After you boot into SDX, type RS232 and hit return. This will load the 850 code, a good load will be indicated by a long beeeeeep...

Good luck with the eyes. Please let me know how the surgery goes. My mom just found out the other day she has cataracts. Not quite ready for the surgery yet, but wondering and hoping it's now a pretty easy thing to do.
Will do... My mom's boyfriend had his done a few months ago. It's a really simple procedure these days. They give you a light anesthesia that keeps you immobile so your eyes don't roll back inside your head and also stops you from blinking. They make a small incision, remove the cataract(s) ( I have 3 in each eye ), then insert the new lens and stitch it up. You are in the recovery room for an hour, then let you go home. You have to use special eye drops before and after the operation for a few days (I get mine tomorrow)..
The only part that I won't like is wearing a protective cover over the eye as it'll remind me of my first eye surgery at 1 year old. They do 1 eye at a time...
And thank you

Think I'll hold off on building my 2nd XEL in favor of this new cool project

I'll get New Eyes next month (cataract surgery) so I'll be able to see a whole lot better. It will allow me to stop using magnifying glasses to see. If it wasn't for my VA benefits, I'd be screwed...

You might regret that when the tires wear out once again, which they inevitably will. Whereas the Incognito's value will continue to increase, and is always usable by simply picking up a 2nd 800 to install it in.
But with that said, enjoy the motorcycle with it's fresh set of tires
.That's why I use the qualifier "Might"
It would be very hard to part with...-

Since the incognito's are going for $200 - $250 on ebay, I might have to sell my spare as my motorcycle needs new tires soon...
-
Yep, same here. bought many 600xl's, 800xl's and 800's for just the cartridge(s)

-
They're also refereed as Dust Covers. My house collects dust rather fast, so I use a small paint brush every week to clean the dust out of my keyboards. Just recently found the Dust Cover for my Incognito 800

SIO Wifi modem with esp8266

This is my revised and working diagram of the SIO2WiFi board.
