I am updating the NTSC (Atari) BMX Airmaster Registry
JerryG replied to homerwannabee's topic in Rarity Guide
I've got one CIB. JerryG -
I have one. It is actually a Loaner Lab label version that came from Atari rather than from someone from Coke. JerryG

What exactly do you mean by some of the non-Zellers games had Zellers games on them? Are you talking about an Atari brand cartridge with both a Zellers front and end labels? I wish I could go back in time and see what you were opening. I find this to be very unusual. If you could remember what the original game was, what Zellers labels were stuck over it, what box it came in, and how it was sealed I would be very grateful. Also was their another label underneath the Zellers label or just the Zellers label period? JerryG if I'm understanding you right you are saying you opened a box for Inca Gold with the "Zellers" logo on it, found a cart with the end label printed "Bank Heist" and the skull island picture on it, but actually contained the Bank Heist rom in it instead of the pirated Spider Maze one? Is this right? Do you remember if the box was sealed or not, and if so how was it sealed? By some scotch tape? Sorry if it's a lot of questions. I'm really trying to get as many details that I can though. I do realize it has been a long time ago and it's hard to remember all the fine points. I'd kill to go back in time and see what you are seeing. Thank you for contributing so far JerryG. The other games had little price stickers on with the Zellers name on the stickers. The cart end lable was Inca Gold, not Bank Heist. Sorry I can't remember other details, it's been too long and too many facts have crowded my brain over the years. JerryG

It's an EPROM, 100%. Very interesting cart, can you dump it? I am going to try to dump it as soon as I can find my directions to my Trac-Mar. Probably, I'll ask Lottie Cody to come over and dump it for me when she gets time as I've not had much luck with the dumping so far. JerryG

My memory is not what it once was so things are a bit hazy. As I remember it, the dealer was from a small town north of Toronto. The name Acadamy Software sort of rings a bell but I am not sure. The dealer had about 20,000 boxed games. I purchased about 4500 of them, about 100 titles, including a variety of Zellers games. As I recall, some of the non-Zellers games had Zellers lables on them also. I suspected that the dealer had bought a large lot of surplus Zellers stock. I don't have much more information on the purchase. I just opened some of the games of each title and checked out what game was actually included when I was working on my JerryG Guide to the Classic Games. As I noted before, the several Inca Gold carts I looked at actually contained Bank Heist and this is how I listed it in the Guide until just a few days ago when I changed it to Space Maze. I don't know if all of the Inca Gold games I had were Bank Heist, nor do I know if Joe at Atari2600.com has any left and if so what they contain. Someone else here indicated that they had bought one from him but I don't know what game it actually contained. The mislabeledd Bank Heist games would seem to indicate that maybe Zellers did release a Bank Heist game but until someone turns up a boxed one we will never know for sure. Sorry I don't have any other information on this. By the way, I checked to see what game was actually on the Inca Gold in my collection and it is Spider Maze, without the Funvision logo.

I couldn't figure out how to add the pictures directly to this post so included them as attachments. Some comments: The cart: The back of the cart, which is a single ended cart, has the Playaround logo included. This cart demonstrates that Playaround had single ended carts produced and therefore either issued or planned on issuing single ended releases. The small handwritten label says loga or logo. I now tend to think it says logo. Perhaps the program within was going to be the startup logo for some planned future releases of single ended carts. The front of the cart shows nothing special, just a space for a label. The screen: The screen consists of a series of couples in silhouette in various "positions" which move back and forth across the screen while the whole screen scrolls slowly off the top of the screen. There are a total of 5 different "positions" which keep renewing in order. The inside: This is a bit strange. I expected to see a prototype board with an eprom. The board has a metal shield soldered in place around the chip which I would assume is an eprom. However, I don't know for sure if it is. With the shield in place one can't see the chip directly to tell if it is an EPROM or not nor see any other information which might be on the chip. On top of the shield are what appear to be the remains of three lables which have nothing readable on them. Hope this info helps. I am now not sure if this is a demo cart or just a copy of some sort of planned logo or other bit of programming. At first I expected there to be more to the program than just the scrolling figures but try as I might I can't get the cart to do anything else. I've tried pushing various buttons and other tricks to try and start whatever else might be in the cart, to no avail. I've finally decided that the scrolling figures are all there are to it. I've watched and waited but have never heard of anyone finding another copy of this nor of anyone finding any single-ended Playaround carts. All I've ever heard of are rumors, and that is all they have turned out to be so far. Hopefully, someone else will come up with something or have some ideas. JerryG

I only need five more boxed.I got all mine at atari2600.com.The boxes are not much to talk about, just blank red boxes. Have you checked your cart. Is it Space Maze or Bank Heist? JerryG

>>>>>>>>>>> So what are all these games exactly anyway? Well a list of there equivilants are as follows: Busy Police = Keystone Kapers (Activision) Challenge (NTSC) = Challenge (PAL) HES Circus (uses joystick) = Circus Atari (uses paddles) Atari Dragon Treasure = Dragonfire (Imagic) Earth Attack = Defender (Atari) Farmer Dan = Gopher (US Games) Freeway = Freeway (Activision) Frontline = Combat (Atari) Inca Gold = Spider Maze (K-Tel Network) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I have a question on the Inca Gold. All of the Inca Gold carts I have ever checked have been a copy of Bank Heist. Of course, most of the carts came from the same lot of carts I bought from a Canadian wholesaler when I was running Atari2600.com. Has anyone else any input into this puzzle? JerryG

Do you have a picture, Jerry? >>>>>>>>> I'll try to get a scan and a screendump, just give me a couple of days as I am tied up in some other things. JerryG

They definitely exist as I have one. I purchased it from a flea market when I lived in Portland, OR. The vendor told me he had originally had two of them but sold one to "sumguy". I paid $10 for it. It is in a Playaround case with only a very small handwritten label on it saying "loga" as far as I can tell. The actual cart doesn't do much, or at least I've not been able to get it to do much. It just scrolls a couple in silhouette in various "positions". I never found out who the "sumguy" was who purchased the other cart. I'm just glad he left one for me. JerryG

You mean, the Brazilian seller though he collects a few carts. Those were the good old days... It was easier to get Braz stuff back then, wasn't it? Don't you all feel there were more stuff available? To me, it seems the market dried out, with few notable exceptions here and there. 955444[/snapback] Hi Tom, I think I know this cart... I have one, here are some pictures: The JerryG Guide lists a 13th: Bandido e Ladão (Keystone Kapers) Thanks, JerryG There are 12 known Grow carts: Cavernas do Espaço (Space Cavern) Alta Rotação (Enduro) Mão Leve (Keystone Kappers) Aventuras em Tongo Bongo (Pitfall!) From the JerryG Guide to Classic VideoGames: Model No. CX-2600A. The box is printed "Promotional Use Only Not For Resale" across the front and back.” Bottom of console is hot-stamped the same. We purchased one of these unopened complete in the original cardboard outer box from the original owner who said he received it as part of an automotive sales promotion when he bought a new 1983 Mustang from Fair City Ford in Pomona, California. As far as he could remember it was being given away only with the purchase of a new Mustang but may have been used in other promotional give-aways! The outer box was marked, “Options Magic, Award Program.” JerryG

I would like one of these. JerryG

I sold my game business to Joe and Lottie Cody and in 2001 issued an update to the Guide in a limited edition. I have a second edition nearly ready to go to print. I am just touching up a few items and finishing the adding of a couple of more systems to the guide. This time I will also have a CD version of the Guide available. Like the First Edition, I will publish a limited edition, just for those interested in the label variations, etc. for a limited time. JerryG

JerryG replied to Godzilla's topic in Atari 2600
I have received nothing, nada, zip! I have your book. I was to ship it with our next trade but we never consumated a next trade. I tried emailing you as to what to do about it but like other emails, you never answered me. When I receive my Thrust package and payment for shipping costs I'll send the book to you. -

Thomas, I lost your email which included the fax number to send the assertion. Could you contact me with the correct fax number so I can send it? Thanks, JerryG -

From the days when I was a dealer I can say that Crackpots is definitely the rarest patch. I had multiples of the others in and out of stock but only ever found one Crackpots and that one is in my collection. Actually, I got the Crackpots from Joe after he bought out my business and was lucky enough to pick up a large collection containing Crackpots. It is the only one I've ever seen.

The sad story about my Atari 2600 TV format conversions
JerryG replied to Thomas Jentzsch's topic in Atari 2600
To which Cupcakus blathered: You better read the whole story before you shoot your mouth off... the whole "service" bullshit was killed a long time ago... It didn't work for Napster, and it's not going to work with Randy. If Thomas never made those hacks, then Randy could not be profiting from them period... I can see how it could easily be interpreted that a freely available binary image may seem like it's OK to sell. But ethically you have to give the developer credit. If the author wishes you to stop selling his game.. for ANY reason... you have a moral obligation to respect his wishes.... for you owe that respect to him... because without him you would not even have that game to sell in the first place. So you owe the $20, $30 or whatever amount of money you made from said software to the time and effort the author put forth in that game... and as such that developer deserves your respect. Am I wrong? Yes, as a matter of fact you are wrong! You are illogically arguing the wrong arguement. The question is not whether Randy should have stopped selling the carts when asked, the question is should he have been asked to stop selling them! Thomas released whatever rights that he had to the hacked games, if any, to the public to use as they wished. The public, including Randy, started using them. Randy was selling copies with Thomas' implied or implicit permission and all was well in the world. Thomas got angry at Randy. Maybe it was Thomas' fault, maybe it was Randy's fault, maybe it was both their fault, whatever the reason he got mad. Thomas decided to ask Randy to stop making the carts. Wrong! The cat was already out of the bag. The use of Thomas' contribution to the games had already been given away and was already in use. It was no longer within Thomas' right to ask folks to stop using his contribution, particulary not his right to single out one given user and try to deny him the use of the games. So, you see you are wrong because: 1. You are not addressing the proper issue and question. 2. You assumed I had not read the whole thread, which I have. 3. Napster notwithstanding, Randy does nothing more that provide a service. That service may or may not be legal or within copyright limits but it is a service none-the-less. 4. You know what assume does! JerryG -
The sad story about my Atari 2600 TV format conversions
JerryG replied to Thomas Jentzsch's topic in Atari 2600
I second the motion because you just hit a sore spot. I also have ordered hundres of dollars of items from Randy several times and always gotten prompt quality service. On the other hand, over six months ago I ordered and paid for Thrust Plus. To date I've gotten nothing! Not even the coutrsey of a reply to my requests as to what is up with the delay or an answer to my question as to whether I'll ever get #23! Thomas, perhaps you could pause for a moment or two to tell me if I and the rest of us in my position are totally screwed or if there is any intent to ever ship what was paid for. Please forgive me if I sound a little ticked at the moment but quite frankly Randy has never shafted me out of a cart, let alone a $60 cart! IMHO, if a game or Hack is released to the community that means anyone should be free to make it and use or sell it, not just those the author isn't fueding with at any given time. We can argue about it all we want but Randy is not selling the game, he is selling a service. It costs the same $11 bucks for any 2 or 4k cart regardless of title or rarity unless he is paying a royalty to someone. Since the hacks were released for "free" there is no extra charge. I don't think this was a set of issues that should have been brought to the community as a whole, it would have been better settled between the parties involved or at least laid to rest in peace privately.
