  1. Dan,

Colors are always a big problem since with console systems there is rarely an objective way of determining "correct" colors. The only way to really do it is to observe the real game, determing the curresponding color code in the emulator and tweak it until it looks correct. This is a VERY tedious process.

I've used an other way to determine the SECAM palette fot Z26.

This requires a little hardware, but allow to have the most accurate color palette almost easely.

I've plugged my VCS into the capture video card if my PC, i've taken screenshots of games with a screen capture shareware then I've used paintshop pro to determine the color palette.

    hope this might help

  2. I'am interested too....

I'm programming in C++ and machine langage (6502, 68000, 80x86) if this may help.... let me know.

I've never programmed pics so far... maybe it's time to learn

maybe, it would be usefull that you create a web page with all the infos related to the project ? just an idea....

  3. quote:

...so non-techie people can create their own Atari 2600 games

programming the VCS 2600 for a non programmers ? LOL

In life, there's nothing impossible... just need to have time, knowledge, standard IQ and motivations...

That's all the dummies need to have. So, they'll have to learn machine language, the complete stella manual.... and a lot of time.... sure it's possible.... but the question is : How long before they'll create something significant ?

  4. How much may be evaluate the auction value for Smurf : Rescue in Gargamel's Castle from CBS ?

    (without box and manual).

The cartridge's label is in french and with the title "SCHTROUMPFS" (the french name for Smurf).

This cartridge is for SECAM systems ONLY.

    Thanks in advance

  5. I found a site containing all the roms sets known by the GOOD TOOLS (all the systems supported!)

It seems to be up to date.

    To bob >

from the "Do you remember the day you discover atari emulation ?" Topic :

    quote:

I have over 1,400 ROMs for the 2600,

    Now you'll have over 1,500

I hope this info will help

  6. One of the first thing I've done when I've had access to the web, was to search about the Atari 2600. I don't searched for something special, I was just curious to know if there was some pages dedicated to the VCS. I didn't know the world of emulation at this time.

I though to find some infos about the games I've never owned.....

....and it was like a miracle for me when I discovered the first VCS emulators. I think there was A26 and the first version of PCAE.....

At this time it wasn't really easy to find a lot of rom files... but not impossible

I was so exited... I'd talk of that to my girlfriend for about one week endless LOL. All the games I've dreamed to play when I was young were available... and a lot of more I've never heard talking about till then.

That was my first step in the world of emulation.

That will remain one of my best WEB memories.

And what about you fellows ?

  7. Trabajo impresionante hombre.

  8. Impressive work man

I hope that will work with a 27C4001 (that should).

Do you plan to design a completed circuit board lay-out ?

    that's would be really GREAT

    just a question :

Why using 10 kohm resistors ? (Bob colbert's schematics use 1 Kohm resistors)

  9. I went to a "kinda" flea market this afternoon and I found a pair of paddles, mario bros complete in box, and combat.

I paid $5.25 for the whole bunch.

I think it's a good price, anyway I needed paddles

I've examine the pots value : they are labeled 1 Mega ohm (850 khom when testing with the multimeter).

I'll try to design an adpater for the paddles for now, I'm trying to turn an old phone keypad into a video touch pad... and I have to build an Eprom burner too.... argh so much to do.....

  10. I've found some paddle circuit descriptions :

VCS 2600 Paddles are working the same way as analog PC joystick as they are using potentiometers.

But the resistors value are different :

they are 100 Kohm for PC joystick and 500 Khom or 1M for Paddles (I found this 2 values in the descriptions, which is the good one ? Someone may confirm ?)

is it possible to use VCS Paddles with a C64 and vice versa ?

So, I think It must be possible to connect the paddles to a PC using an adapter, nevertheless the adapter I've built is not designed for this purpose because it's a digital to analog converter.

So, Albert, it's Okay, I'll build an adaptater for you... :-)

I've got to test if a 2 joysticks adadter works first.

    I'll let you know...

  11. I think it's possible to support 2 joysticks, just have to duplicate the 1st circuit (and the cost) and to add 4 wires.

I'd like to test paddles, but I've none

I'm not interrested in earning money from an other atari fan and I definitely won't make you pay 30$ when it only cost me 14$ (for a 2 joysticks circuit) !

maybe have you some atari 2600 carts to trade ?

  12. quote
I believe they even made some stuff for Amiga and Commodore 64, I might be wrong.

    You are right joel

They made some good games for the C64 and an amazing one : Mandragore

But I haven't found a disk image on the web (:

It should be included in the incoming gamebase 64.... but it seems I'am a little bit out of the topic

  13. > Albert

well, initially it wasn't in my projects to build some of this adapter for sale because it's easy to build and it's cheap (I think it cost me near 7$ to build mine if i'm not wrong.)

But.... i'll see... perharps from trade ?

I've got to building an Eprom/EEprom burner first... for now I'm collecting informatios and schematics... lot of work in view

I'll let you known when i'll be ready...

Please, let me know how many adapters you'd need.

I've got to test the adapter with other emulators than Z26... just to be sure everything is okay - the C64 version H.E.R.O. was really GREAT to play with the Atari joystick
