  1. Floppies - the larger they were the floppier they became!

  2. East Sussex not kent. Soory to hear you were chucking up veggie soup. This heat can't be helping. As the doctor always "rest and drink plenty of liquids".

  3. Personal problems. Lost a bit of interest in AA for a while. Most of the questions/posts weren't that interesting or only of importance if you lived across the pond. I liked the poetry topic-not something I would have expected, as poetry doesn't seem to be a suject you would openly admit to liking. Hope you're keeping well. Not seen many posts from you or not many others complaining...

  5. T'was not me who got 'im sacked. I mean left with mutual agreement. Anyway, you said it wuold be that irish bloke who used to manage villa would be taking over not the wrinkly kilt wearing person.

  6. Thanks. Belated Merry Xmas to you too.

  7. What is that anyway? The hub or hole in the middle of the floppy has an extra ring of plastic around it. The early IBM floppy drives had trouble gripping the hub and so the floppy would slip when being spun. So, to get around the problem they added the ring to thicken the edge of the hole where the disc is gripped. Later 1.2MB drives didn't have this problem so the hub ring was not needed. That's why a 360KB floppies have the ring and 1.2MB flops don't.
  8. As promissed. Couldn't be bothered scnning the watch face so took some pics instead. Closed Box with cardboard surround Box opened - notice the gold lettering inside the lid as well as the front Watch Face Instructions Guarantee (it is also stamped with supplier and date of spurchase on the erverse) Original Receipt If anyone knows a site that has this version of the Space Attack watch I would be very much interested.
  9. Fantastic you found it for me. Ok! now that Nelsonic watch is very rare, according to the site it's 4$ out of 5. My version is the same watch - same game - same module - same batts - same case and strap, but it' not the same. Mine is stamped Zeon not Nelsonic and the game is called Space Invaders with a reg trade mrk symbol beside the name because it was licensed from Taito. Mine is also in near mint condition (no scratches on the glass just a little bitof the paint on the fake alarm grill is missing), boxed with original instructions guarantee and reciept - it was purchased no the 31oct1981 and cost £29.95 - and still has the cardboard surround for the box. The glass is dark blue/green with gold not the black of the nelsonic version. It works perfectly but the current set of batts need replacing. Too late to scan a pic of it - will do tomorrow. The nelsonic version is the only version I can find and that took me 5 years to find. I have never found the Zeon version. Rough estimate of value is about £150.
  10. I was looking for the american version of my game watch but found your for sale on this site http://vintagedigitalwatches.com/watches7.htm Still looking for mine
  11. I'm glad you list Night Mission because I used to play it back in the 80's on an IBM XT during night shift. It was one of the first non-basic programs we got. My work colleague got about 11 million on it one night. If yur score goes over a million a dot appears over the score. The more millions the more dots. A lot more modern - MS brought out Pinball Arcade that was basically a history of Pinball with tables from each generation.
  12. Nice find. The last(only) time I saw one of those was back in 87 (or 88) when the IT dept head at the Arab Bank in London where worked had bought one for his kids and left in the dept overnight. Being on night shift gave me the chance to unpack it and have a good nosey. I would love to see a ROB working.
  13. Is it a silver sticker with the number in a black border if so then I would probably say yes.
  14. Will do if you use C:\format a: /f:360 5 1/4 drives can't detect the density of the disk when formatting so a ssume that all discs are 1.2MB. Using the /f switch will tell it to format to 360KB. OK starter question for 5 points. If a label has fallen off a 5 1/4 floppy, how can you tell what density it is without sticking it into a drive? The reinforced hub ring is missing on high density. I still have plenty of 5 1/4 drives lying around. I use them with my 286 setup. I have some low density 5 1/4 drives too. And too many floppies....way too many floppies. Well done correct answer. Now for a bonus of 1 why was the hub ring there in the first place? I'm trying to colloect 3 1/2 flops (without paying for them) - I've been given an old Win95 Tosh laptop that has never had it's recovery disks created. Sice it doesn't have a burner (I've got it's cd drive that fits into the same bay as the floppy) the disk creation prog wants to use floppies - 42 of them.
  15. The only computer made by the now defunct Burger King Computer Corp. Anyone fancy a game of thermo nuclear war?

  17. Less that £5 via airmail according to the PostOffice.co.uk web site.
  18. I thought I would be ridiculed if I mentioned that the box alone may be worth as much as the VCS.
  19. AJ is 100% correct SaturnMan. Although all the six switch unit boxes showed a heavy on the box the background pics a diff and the wording too. Where your box shows a chess rook/knight on the light sixer box there is a pic from the basball box. Also the wording under Video Computer System by Atari on the light sixer reads The Super System...More Games More Fun. Check out my first post that includes a pic of a light sixer box. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/167277-rescued-from-dump/ Yep you've a put together set. However, don't but put off. That vcs is in fantastic condition and has been looked after. You may be missing the cardbaord that housed the joysticks etc to make way for the games but that's nout to worry about. Think of it this way, when you sell it on ebay it will attract people who want the box and those who want a light sixer in good condition. But make sure you mention in the desc that the box is an original 1977 revision. The general rule about what something worth is that it's only worth what someone wants to pay for it.
  20. Any dos boot disc will do if all you need to do is edit the config.sys file and not sys c: the drive. You could use a dos6.22 one as long as it had qbasic.exe and edit.exe (edit uses the qbasic exe start up) on it as well. (a friend of mine once changed the Command.com line that stopped my pc from booting (Dos 4.01) - I had to go off to collage to get a dos 3.3 disk to edlin the config.sys back to what it should have been. I know it's a 5 1/4 but what capacity will it take 360KB or 1.2MB. My old PC (dos 6.22 Win3.1) in the loft has a 5 1/4 inch drive on it and I have plenty of discs I can ship one over to you. I've also got MS-Dos 5 upgrade on 5 1/4 if you wanted it. Would be better than 3.3. Just let me know. You can PM me with your details if you want.
  21. Some of the original games were/are fantastic. However nowadays I don't think anyone writing a homebrew would create the same old thing over and over again like what happened back in the 80's. I doubt there's the urgency to get the game out in 6weeks without testing it first. Who would want to make an Airlock clone? Basically you could say for example 40% (I've no idea how many original games there were that were good. I just know that there was a lot of dross.) of original were good well programmed and enjoyable to play BUT 100% of homebrews should be good and well programmed games. PS Carmel. Notice I have changed my location.
  22. Any chance of a close-up pic of the cart slot?
  23. Your serial number is slighly less than mine (slightly older unit) so I would have a guess that it's a light sixer. Any chance of a pic?
  24. One to add to your list Light sixer CX-2600 U PAL UK Atari Wong Ltd Hong Kong s/n 548488456
  25. Reminds me of some early episodes of Dallas in the Ewings office the secretary with a Compaq 286 Deskpro happily typing away when there were no cables what-so-ever. No mains, no connection to the monitor nothing. My other half hates it when I spot those sorts of things. Like PCs in films that can boot up in seconds. All printers - even inkjets - must sound like an 80's dot matrix. All wording on monitors must be at least 1/2 inch high. When a secret file is being downloaded it has to say 'downloading file' in big letters on the screen. Fax machines that produce perfect printouts in seconds. Incorrect jargon written into a script by someone who thinks it sounds authentic but just sounds stupid. Publicity pics of people using laptops on beds when all that would happen is it would block the air intake vent on the underside and overheat the thing. The pics on the nes actions set box where they're playing on a nes that isn't even swiched on and the cart for the game their playing isn't loaded into the console.
