Go for it! It's a fun variation on the Atari 8-bit computer line. Be sure you get one with a keyboard, and if you need to extend the cable, you can indeed use a molded DB15 joystick extension cable like this one (not mine):

Be prepared to get LUCKY! Those pastel buttons will draw 'em in, yo. If it's Easter you can just carry the console around and pretend to play those buttons like a playskool keytar and you will GET SOME! GAWD I LOVE THAT GREY JOYSTICK! UH! MAN. That's an awesome system.
