  1. I honestly thought AA had the best booth at the show. There are so many great games on the horizon that my wallet is going to be hurting for months.

Rebooteroids is amazing. You can just hook that game directly to my veins. I'm going to play it forever.

I was also completely blown away by Super Game Module by Opcode Games. New hardware for classic systems always excites me. The game selection was also incredible. I also need to get my hands on every Track Ball hack game. I can't wait to play them all.

But the one thing that really stood out to me was the MMDC Retro Player. This thing needs to go into production ASAP! Maybe some crowd funding?

Anyway... here's my video tour of the AA booth. As you can see it was definitely an impressive set up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzyMLQuz_-k

  2. Constructive criticism, not trying to be a jerk.

Why no date ON the coin? I have Chuck E. Cheese tokens that have the year and state on them.

Don't say silver if it is nickel plated and doesn't contain metallic silver. I guess if they are free you would know you mean silver color.

I don't care to date the coins. It compromises the artwork. For example, I didn't want to put the year 2016 on our Lucky Seven token. You also don't have much space to work with on a 0.984 token. I'm not going to cut back on artwork to include a date. Maybe if I create a coin for a specific event I'll consider it, but for now, I'm not interested.

  3. I remember these

I remember these. Had quite a few my self back in the day. Pretty sure they came out in 2014 or 2013. Did you ever collect the Metal Slug tanks and characters which they also released? They were pretty detailed however you had to paint them yourself :(

Yes, I got those as well. Amazing detail for a Gashapon toy! I still haven't painted them yet, but hope to do so at some point in the future. As soon as I return from Portland I'll post some pics.

  4. Hey everyone, I'm curious to see what kind of cool exclusives might be for sale at PRGE 2016. If you follow the official website you know they're going to have a great selection of t-shirts. But what about homebrew games and other exclusives? Have any of you heard anything from other websites, exhibitors or vendors? What about AtariAge? Will we have anything new at the show?

Please feel free to shamelessly plug your own products too. I'm sure you'll be helping out a lot of folks, including myself, who want to plan our purchases before the show. Thanks in advance!

Edit 1: Intellivision Revolution has announced they will have FOUR new products at the show.

    Ultimate Pong
    IntyBasic Showcase V1
    Gosub (co-published with 2600connection)
    And a mystery title

  5. Our next collectible arcade token is coming to the Portland Retro Gaming Expo! This token will be available at the show and through a mail away program for our Arcade Token Collector's club. As always our coins are 100% FREE!

This will actually be number coin number 15 in the Dig That Box collection. We have now created 15 collectible coins in 7 years, a total of 21,000 units, distributed to 48 different countries and all 50 states! Woo hoo!

The new coins will also come in special PRGE themed packaging. As an added bonus, the first 50 people will also receive our Lucky Seven E3 Expo coin. Both coins will be permanently retired after the show. This is the only time the silver PRGE coin will be made available to the public.

    See you at the show!

  6. Remember when I said that I was hoping to purchase a Neo Geo console by the end of the year? Well I finally got one!

 Ok, maybe not a real one, but this mini Neo Geo Gashapon toy is really neat! It actually comes with a tiny Metal Slug cartridge and a super tiny memory card. The attention to detail is amazing! You can even plug in the controller cord and insert the cartridge and the memory card.

I've been a collector of the History Collection consoles for some time. Although this console isn't part of that line, it fits in well with my collection.

The other 3 carts are also titles in the Metal Slug series. Each cartridge came with a different Metal Slug vehicle and figure. I'll upload pictures of those toys sometime soon.

  7. This whole topic gave me a terrible case of Pac-Man fever.

For the record I loved Pac-Man back in the day. Of course Ms. Pac-Man was a million times better. But who can forget that classic audio from the original Atari 2600 Pac-Man? It's burned into my brain forever. I can hear that chomping sound, and the classic death music even as I type this post.

  8. While I agree with the general idea that poor quality homebrew is bad for the market, and bad for us as a community, I'm going to stay positive. I'm more interested in homebrew gaming than ever before. There are just so many games I have yet to play, and so many that I want to play, that I'm almost more interested in homebrew than I am in modern gaming. There are new homebrew titles that are equal to, or better than, many of the games that were released back in the day.

And while I won't mention anything specific because I don't want to blow up any egos, there are certain games that really amaze me. When I see them I find it hard to believe that the developers actually created this stuff for vintage hardware. These are real technological marvels that just don't seem possible on hardware made in the 1970's.

  9. Man, I am really going to get in trouble for this one.... Before I say anything, let me put on my running shoes.

    Ok....Here goes...

I don't like the Heavy Sixer. I think it's ugly as sin. I think the Light Sixer is a sexy little beast that's looks a million times better than the heavy model.

  10. I think Analogue Interactive makes some very nice products. However I have a question about this one. If it's using similar FPGA hardware to the AVS, what justifies the $450 price tag? This is a serious and totally respectful question. Their NT was just oozing with style, truly beautiful design, but is that reason enough to justify the higher price tag?

In regards to the competition, I have to say that the guy behind the AVS is the most dedicated and obsessive NES fan I have ever met in my life. I only met him briefly at PRGE last year, but I've been following his posts on another forum for almost a year now. I can definitely say that his dedication lends a great deal of credibility to his product. This is definitely the guy I want making my next gen NES hardware.

So I'm just trying to figure out how Analogue Interactive is going to position their new hardware against the cheaper AVS and the NES Mini. Again, I have tremendous respect for the folks at Analogue Interactive. They make fantastic products, but in this case I think they're facing an uphill battle.

Also this is a question you purists might be able to answer. Wasn't there a reason why the folks at RetroUSB limited their AVS console to 720p? I'm certain there was no limitations to their technology. I have been discussing the AVS on this forum and elsewhere on the web, so I might be losing track of where I'm hearing all this info. Can anyone answer these questions for me?

  11. Hey everybody.

I seriously underestimated the demand for the new Lucky 7 collectible arcade token. I had no idea it would be this popular. I definitely should have produced more, unfortunately it's too late to do that.

With that said, if you haven't entered our contest yet, and you plan on signing up, please do me one small favor. Please put "ATARI AGE" in the subject line of your email. I will personally make sure you get a coin. It looks like I might have to end this contest early because of the increased demand. So if you're going to enter please do it ASAP.

Thanks very much for all of your support. I couldn't have done this for 7 years without the help of this amazing forum!

  14. Are you going to be at E3 this year? It was great meeting you there last year.

I actually wasn't planning on going to E3, but one of the senior projects from my game design program placed in the top 5 in the collegiate competition, so it's off to LA I go.

I will definitely be there. Hope to see you again on the show floor. Please be sure to send me a message before you get into town. It's going to be a great show this year!

This year I had an incredibly difficult time photographing the new coins. No matter what I did I could not get a photo that truly showed the shiny golden luster of these amazing looking coins. So here's a YouTube video of me running fingers through the coins like Scrooge McDuck. At least it gives you a better idea of how these coins look in person.

    THE COLLECTOR CLUB IS BACK:

Apparently if you joined last year you're covered until the end of 2016. It's kinda hard to explain what it is so you'll just have to read about in on the link. We are definitely going to have another new coin for the Portland Retro Gaming Expo this fall. That coin will only be available at the show, with a very small number saved for club members.

I also have an incredible design I'd like to use for a third coin to be distributed at a certain arcade expo in the fall. I still have a few things I need to work out first. However, if you're a club member, you'll get that one as well.

Good luck to everyone! Please let us know if you win.
