  1. I've heard people in this thread and elsewhere say that Billy's character in King of Kong was staged. That he was playing a role. I spent a few days observing him and Steve Wiebe at a pathetically under attended video game convention back in 2008. It seems that Billy is exactly the character you see in that movie, a total arrogant prick and an obvious villain looking to sabotage the efforts of those who compete against him. At the same time he is both gracious, polite, and very appreciative of his fame. I'd also say that Steve Wiebe is not as sympathetic as a character as he seems in the movie, but that's a subject for a different topic. With that said, it seems his Pac-Man achievements are very legitimate. TG should have allowed them to stand. As for his Donkey Kong records, his actions are disgraceful and inexcusable. Someone fresh was about to beat his score and his ego just couldn't let it go. He had spun a career out of his small fame, and now it's all in the toilet. The worst part is that Twin Galaxies has taken a real credibility hit. This is the only site that I know of that keeps records of this kind. I'm not a competitive or even greatly skilled gamer, but I enjoy this kind of thing and I don't want to see it go away. EDIT: You know what? We're all being worked. Variety just posted an article where Steve Wiebe comments on recent events. It seems someone is thinking about a new movie or a TV series. Now I'm not certain this all isn't just a giant publicity stunt. http://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/steve-wiebe-interview-1202752495/

  3. If you were a man in the 1970’s, and you didn’t have a mustache, what the hell were you doing? And don’t give me that old line “but Doc, I was only 8 years old!” That’s no excuse. Get your act together.

My mustache grows out kinda crazy.. spotty, thick and wirey, and pointing upwards or straight out. So yeah I wouldn't have had one. :P

Sounds like the school building that I work in. The temperature setting always seems to be three weeks out of sync with what's going on outside, and I'm pretty sure they can only cool one floor at a time.

  8. I'm trying to watch the Diff'rent Strokes marathon on Decades but every episode is a total downer about kids getting abused, kidnapped, bitten by dogs, etc. I just want to see that episode where Nancy Regan catches Willis smoking weed.

They started doing those "Special Episodes" in the later seasons cause Gary Coleman wanted to tackle teen issues. Then every NBC sitcom in the 80's & 90's had those...

Indeed there is, complete with a passenger named "Starman". With a copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a towel, a "DON'T PANIC" sign on the dash, and the "Foundation" books on an optical, quartz storage disc. The car is now in a heliocentric orbit that takes it past the orbit of Mars.

  12. What are the chances that the Atari Box project is now dean now that Atari has moved on to crowd funding their latest Roller Coaster Tycoon game? For the RCT project they wanted $1.07 Million and have only raised roughly $42,000. Apparently that meets their funding requirement minimum, but it's still a tiny faction of their ultimate goal.

  15. I saw him break the 6 Second mark at E for All in 2008, getting 5.77, and even a bit lower, on a few occasions during the course of the two day show. I also saw the folks from Twin Galaxies at the event. Including Billy Mitchell and Walter Day. When I saw the Twin Galaxies crowd at E for All in 2008, they were exactly the clowns they were made out to be in the King of Kong. I mean, it was almost a comedy. There's a whole other story I could tell about Billy and Walter trying to undermine Steve Weibe's DK score attempt at the show. They were constantly trolling him. I'm not sure who to side with here. I know Todd doesn't have the most stellar reputation. I know that the guys from TG are a bunch of ridiculous clowns. The maker of the game said his score is possible, but no one else has been able to come close. I guess my takeaway from this whole thing is that if the score is fake, TG let is stand for a long time and their credibility has taken a major hit. If the score is real, then TG is involved in yet even more chicanery and foolishness, which also further tarnishes their record. Make of this what you will.
  16. Just got finished watching Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. That Jar Jar Binks is such a delightful character. I'm sure he was loved by all when the movie came out.

Here's a funny story. I actually camped out in front of the Chinese Theater in Hollywood for 28 Hours to get tickets to the midnight show of Episode 1. I actually got the very last ticket. When the massive crowd behind me saw that I had purchased the last ticket they let out a massive, anguished cry.

Wow ... Pogs. I remember when they were a fad circa 1995: the store I worked at would have a plastic swimming pool on the sales floor filled with them. People would scoop them into produce bags and buy them by weight like CRAZY. Never understood that particular fad.

      Skippy B. Coyote

I was about 10 years old or so when the pog fad was making the rounds. I had a ton of them back then, and a really cool (to me at least) red anodized aluminum slammer with the shark from JAWS on it. I wonder what ever happened to that thing...
