Not sure if "good" but this seems to be the dominant one - https://www.facebook.com/groups/obeypce/

  2. Ok, I admit it. ALF is still surprisingly funny after all these years. Except for all that cat eating stuff. Bad ALF! Go lay down!

The sitcom I didn't like much, but the cartoon was surprisingly good. Didn't it become Alftales later?

  4. Can anyone recommend any good retro gaming Facebook pages? I recently did a purge of inactive pages and I'm looking for cool stuff to follow. I'm also interested in retro TV, pop culture, music. Etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There's a priest, a minister, and a rabbi. They're out playing golf, and they're trying to decide how much to give to charity. So the priest says, "We'll draw a circle on the ground, we'll throw the money way up in the air, and whatever lands inside the circle, we give to charity." The minster says no. "We'll draw a circle on the ground, throw the money way up in the air, and whatever lands outside of the circle, that's what we'll give to charity....

  7. I'm in need of suggestions for comedy TV shows. Anything you can provide will be greatly appreciated. It doesn't have to be a new show. It can be several decades old or currently airing. Thanks in advance.

  8. The irony is that with such a low turnout you might have been able to score a few deals from all those sad, lonely vendors. I genuinely feel sorry for them. Most of them probably have no idea about the drama surrounding this event.
  9. So I'm kinda in the market for a replica pro wrestling championship belt. I think I want something from my youth during the classic era of the WWF but I can't decide.

When I was in University, our residence had a really high quality replica WWE Attitude era one. It could be won anytime, any place by making someone tap out. I never held it once. :)

Not a big WWF guy, but the IC title or winged eagle are pretty sweet.

Dunno if I'd ever get a belt, but if I did, my heart belongs to the red NWA tv title.

  11. I want to bring up a new fear of mine. Will Atari have enough content to fill the Ataribox? If this thing launches with a handful of games from their mobile library it's a guaranteed failure. We all know it. So how much content will Atari be able to license and provide through this box? Would Atari be able to offer games from their console library, along with mobile content, as well as ports of their PC games? What about licensed titles like their Dragon Ball and Godzilla games? My fear is that this box will be just a handful of mobile and PC titles and that's it. I know when dealing with this company it's best to keep your expectations in check, but Atari has to know that this thing can't succeed without a large and diverse library of games. They really need to exploit their legacy. Another question. Will they go the Ouya route and invite other developers to sell their wares on the Ataribox store? And for a different type of content what about possible media players, Kodi and other apps? I fear that if the Ataribox doesn't embrace a wide variety of content it will not be a success.

  13. I think the retro gaming bubble is part of the larger pop culture bubble that will surely burst sometime in the very near future. There's just too much of everything, the public is getting overwhelmed and cynical. It's almost become fashionable to hate things that are popular. Eventually all the comic book movies, video games, fantasy TV shows, fad toys and yes, even retro gaming products, will come crashing down in spectacular fashion. I even believe the mighty video game industry is headed for another dramatic "market adjustment." With that said I'm fine with whatever happens. I'm just here to play games. I don't collect them nor do I give a flying Flip Wilson about their value. I scoff at hoarders who never play their stuff. I don't care for homebrew devs and content creators who deliberately make their stuff limited just for the sake of saying it's rare. Back in the day I literally never stopped playing classic consoles. Even when new hardware came along I still kept my old classics hooked up to another TV. They always appealed to me. And when I started to hunt for games in earnest the thrill for me was just finding something cool to play. In the late 80's and early 90's nobody really gave a damn about this stuff, and I bought most of my library for pennies on the dollar. In the early 90s I actually used to drive around in my 86 Toyota with a 19" color TV, a 2600 and a bag full of games in the trunk. It was a great time in my life. So if the whole thing comes crashing down, so be it. I'll be like Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burns, because I simply don't care.
  14. Wireless controllers do tend to be problematic, unless is that new controller designed for the RetroUSB AVS. That thing is amazing. This brings me back to something I mentioned earlier. What kind of controllers will they use with the Ataribox? The controller could make or break this thing. I also want the option to use corded USB controllers. The renderings of the console that were posted earlier suggest the thing will have USB ports. So I imagine corded controllers aren't entirely out of the question.
  15. I'll admit this idea intrigues me as well. My only problem with the whole Raspberry Pi gaming scene is the problems with input lag. I've read many things you can allegedly do to improve the situation, but nothing that completely resolves it. That's why I'm curious about whether this is the reasoning for the Ataribox being PC based. Have they considered the input lag problems that are present on most Android based gaming boxes? Are they using PC hardware to get increased power? Or could it be that PC hardware makes it easier for them to port their existing catalog, as well as repackage a few PC based emulators to run the old games? With that said, despite any complaints I have about the Pi emulator scene, I still have a Pi box and I think that for the most part, it's amazing.
  16. Here's some interesting new information on the possible hardware powering the Ataribox. https://hothardware.com/news/amd-semi-custom-silicon-may-power-atari-ataribox Looks like this thing is taking another step closer to reality.
  17. This one bothers me too. The current crop of android media boxes are flooded with bad cell phone ports.
  18. What about this one? Is this legit too? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-2600-Harmony-retro-drive-Cart-Everdrive-Style-free-region-Game-1-left-/201914688996 The price seems absurd.
  19. As an owner of two Ouya consoles and a backer of the original project I can say without hesitation that Ouya was a viable concept that if done right would have been a great success. The whole media box game console is a worthy concept. Companies like Razer, Mad Catz, Sony, and a ton of Asian companies have all tried their hand in this market. Even the popularity of Raspberry Pi media boxes apes this idea. Go to places like Tomtop and Aliexpress and you'll see plenty of these game / media box products. It's a legit concept that has the potential to create its own market, instead of trying to compete with Xbox and Nintendo. Ouya was hindered from the start by controller and hardware problems. However it had a solid front end and a fairly decent library of games and emulators. The company improved upon their hardware with the Black 1.1 version of the console, but by then it was just too little, too late. So my HOPE in this situation is that Atari will look at all these companies and see what they did wrong. Because many of them had the same deal breaking problems. Avoid those problems or correct them and they'll already be off to a good start.
  20. All I want out of life right now is a nice White Eagle hot dog with ketchup, mustard and onion. Dice the onions really small. On a nice soft, fresh potato roll. With an ice cold coke on the side.

  21. What if Atari is smart enough to announce this product, let the hype build on its own, and then sit back and see what people say they want from it? It would be a good way to gauge public opinion. They could be trying to balance public expectations with their own vision for the product. They might also be fishing for ideas. Letting the hype build might also be good for business. The Atari Gameband was crowd funded at 4 times the original pledge goal. Fear: They're letting the hype build so they can also build up the size of their con. Lure in as many suckers as possible. Then the Atari CEOs are going to take the money and run off to Vegas. Eventually one of them is going to wind up crashing a Ferrari in Malibu.

  23. I'm sure you've noticed this thing has a lot of ports on it. It looks like 4 USB, Ethernet, HDMI out, maybe a USB-C and some kind of card slot. Looking at this stuff makes me want to a few new hopes to my list. Hope: Let me use USB controllers on this machine. Why would you even need 4 USB ports if they're not going to let us use them? Obviously there's a plan for these, and hopefully it includes USB joysticks. Also, let me put the USB ports to other use, like playing media files, or adding home brew game roms to my collection. It would be nice if the Ataribox had two forward facing USB ports. I'm not thrilled about reaching around behind the system all the time. I'm also a bit worried that when I play with a corded controller I'll always be pulling the system to one side.

  25. On the first point, this isn't about what you see now, but what you hope they might achieve if they do things right. And while I admit that maybe my own personal hopes range from unlikely to unreasonable, they still work within the premise of this thread, which is to ask two questions. What should they do to succeed? What should they do to avoid failure?
