  1. It's to be expected with the juggernaut of Ataribox mania bearing down upon us. Appealing to their greed might encourage them to get things done right. Having a solid product would definitely increase their bottom line. If there's a chance to possibly influence this sort of decision making, it's now. I'm sure Atari PR has to be keeping an eye on things here.
  2. I know there are other threads on the Ataribox, however after reading them I still felt this question deserved its own topic. What are your biggest hopes and fears for the Ataribox? What are your greatest desires? What are your biggest concerns? What must Atari do to make the Ataribox a success? Get creative here, without being completely unreasonable. A few quick examples. Hope: It will unite a great portion of the Atari gaming catalog, past to present, and sell it to me at an affordable price. It will be an Atari content box. Make sure that I have lots of storage space because I might want to buy and play everything. Hope: Atari Age and Atari make some sort of agreement to include Atari Age homewbrew content on the Atari Box. Hope: Atari also creates a built in news portal for the Ataribox. It will combine their own PR and advertising with major news from all of the big Atari fan sites, Atari Age included. Perhaps this would be the "community page" of the Atari news portal? Hope: There's an enormous catalog of Atari commercials, video clips and other forms of advertising on the web. Unite all of that content and provide it to me in the form of a cheap, streaming Atari video nostalgia channel. It could all be rooted in YouTube to save Atari hosting costs as well as making them YouTube revenue. Fears: A weak gaming catalog, overly expensive games, lazy ports, bad controllers, Input lag problems that would be game breaking or would just scare away serious gamers. What say you Atari Age?

  4. Does anyone here know anything about an arcade called Game Trek? Possibly it's a small arcade chain?

  5. There has been a serious decline in the quality of the Atari Age Facebook community page. The page has devolved into nothing but low quality sh** posting, off topic posting and garbage memes. The group needs better moderation like various Retro Gamers Hub pages run by one of our fellow AA members.

  6. What would we do baby, without us? What would we do baby, without us? Cause there any no nothing we can't love each other through, hoo hoo, what would we do baby, without uuuuuusssss? Sha la la la.

  8. I own both the Amazon Fire TV box and the Google Nexus player. These products were handled with such an appalling level incompetence that it's almost hard to believe they could be made by two of the biggest corporations on Earth. I actually went to Google's offices in Venice Beach, CA to be part of a test market for another product. When I was there I engaged in some small talk with an employee who told me that they were working on a gaming device. The end result was the Nexus Player. The only thing the Nexus Player had going for it was its outstanding YouTube app. On both devices, Nexus and Fire TV, gaming was an afterthought. Both products were a failure in design from the ground up. They were also both horrible at presenting and selling gaming content. Neither seemed to understand the very nature of gamers themselves. It was as if the gaming elements of these products were designed by people who didn't actually play games. To be quite honest, as a pure gaming machine, the Ouya outclassed both products, but it was hampered from day one by horrible, underpowered hardware, lag issues and a terrible controller. They fixed some of the issues with the Black Console (the 1.1 version), but by then it was too little, too late. Still, Ouya did the "it's a game machine" concept far better than either Google or Amazon. Both companies should be ashamed to have brought such half assed products to market. It would be better if the Nexus and the Fire TV Box didn't play games at all, and just stayed in the realm of being a media streaming box.

  10. I just realized something. The WWF Heavyweight Championship has been vacant ever since the company changed their name to the WWE. Therefore I hereby declare myself to be the new WWF Heavyweight Champion. I will accept all challenges to my title.

  12. Well certainly no one here has a crystal ball and yet many here are certain that this product will fail. The best course of action for these folks would be to stick with buying yearly Atari Flashback updates, which arguably isn't a very good product, but at least it gives them the thrill of re-purchasing bits of their fading youth. And yeah, this Atari isn't "your" Atari. I've heard that one before. As for me, I'm going to cheerleader the hell out of this thing and hope it annoys the hell out of all the old timers. (That's a joke just in case any of you are humor impaired.) No grandpa, I won't get off your lawn. Call the cops.
  13. I'm actually going to hope for the best, and I'll be one of the first people to back this project. If it turns out well, and I hope that it will, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'll also have a neat new Atari game system. If it flops, and I hope that it won't, I'll have another media box for my collection of failed media boxes. Either way, I am legitimately excited that a company calling themselves Atari is releasing a new video game console on the market. I also feel that unfounded cynicism is a byproduct of the aging process.
  14. Isn't it time to have one big, official topic related to the Atari Box rather than three small ones?

I believe a separate sub-forum would be best. Now. It would be to tedious to merge and read something like 4 or 5 threads.

  16. What I like about YouTube are people who know their stuff. The kind of folks who really do their homework before they make a video. I enjoy fun and informative retro gaming content, along with bits of trivia. I also am grateful for quality "lets play" videos. They often help me decide on a game before making a purchase. I also like watching the occasional pick up video and flea market find. The hunt was once a big part of my life. Lot's of fun memories. I also greatly appreciate the archival nature of YouTube. There are so many great old interviews, news segments, game clips and commercials. It's the greatest video archival tool on the web. It's helping to preserve an entire era and sell it to a new generation. TL:DR, in many ways YouTube helps retro gaming far more than it hurts it.

  22. Does anyone expect that the Atari Box is a mini PC based gaming box that hooks directly to your TV, similar to the PlayStation TV or Amazon Fire TV? I know this has been discussed before, but at this point what else could it be? I have a fascination for this type of media box. I've bought them all, I even backed things like Ouya (own both versions), Google Nexus Player, Fire TV, PSTV, Game Stick, and others. I even backed the Retro Engine Sigma console that was mentioned earlier in this topic. (Yes, I know it's just a Pi box, and yes, I do believe the developers were scamming people.) I personally feel that the mini TV / multimedia game box is a viable concept, at least on paper, that no one has actually done right. That's why I keep buying these boxes, to learn from their mistakes. So what are the chances of this being a mini gaming box? And if that's the case, how well is this thing going to sell? I have no doubt that it will make its Kickstarter goals, probably due mostly to nostalgia and compulsive backers like me (I'll back anything), but how will it do on the open market?
  23. Inside the box is a Polaroid picture of the Atari logo. There's writing on the back that says "Don't believe his lies." It's a luxury storage box. The inside of the box is felt lined so you can safely store all your valuable Atari collectibles. When you open the box there's a mirror inside. It's a way of saying this story was about you all along. This is literally Pandora's Box and opening it will cause the end of the world. These are my best guesses. Stop me if any of these jokes are working for you.
