What was the deal with weird human/animal hybrids in the early 90s? I seem to remember several toys and cartoons based on a similar premise.

@Jaybird My own theory is it came from the rise of "Anthropomorphic" Comics...TMNT being the obvious example, but there was also lesser knowns like Radioactive Adolescent Black Belt Hamsters, Nazrat, or Dinosaurs For Hire

  5. Over the weekend I watched Ski School, Ski Patrol, Ski School 2 and Hot Dog: The Movie. These films taught me nothing about skiing! What a rip off!

Lemme guess, there's the 'rich kids' ski slope that's trying to buy the poor kids' slope out, so they challenge them to a skiing competition while looking for excuses to show off topless women in a hot tub. I know all about skiing.

  8. So what is the general consensus on the consolized MVS game systems? I'd love to hear any thoughts or opinions. My current goal to purchase a consolized MVS before the end of the year. I'm also going to buy a multi cart, as well as few original single game carts. Do you have a favorite version of the consolized MVS? Do any of you own one? Any tips for a first time buyer? Thanks in advance for your help. This is a great topic!
  9. With all the recent additions to the Atari Age store, does anyone have any new suggestions to add to this topic?

Alas, it's doing quite well financially, especially outside the US. Big gap between the critics and the money. There will be a sequel.

  11. Hey Guys, So I'm in need of a little advice. I actually own two Neo Geo X systems. You see I reside on two coasts, spitting my time between NY for 1 month a year, and California for the rest of the year. A few years ago I was given a Neo Geo X at Christmas. I played it for a while, but never got the chance to bring it back from NY, so it's been sitting in a box ever since. Well recently a friend of mine was moving out of town here in LA, and for helping him pack up and move, he gave me a number of retro gaming consoles and games. Among that lot was a brand new, unopened Neo Geo X along with Mega Pack Vol 1. Now the box is a little worn, but the system is not opened and is basically brand new. Now my ultimate goal with Neo Geo gaming was to get a consolized system. That goal is not going to change. I just need to finish my research and decide which one I want to get. Right now I'm learning towards the Neo Geo Omega. So with that said, what do I do with this Neo Geo X? Do I open it up? Should I upgrade the firmware? It's going to be a while before I buy my consolized MVS system. I'd love to get a cheap Neo Geo fix to hold me over. However I've heard nothing but bad things about the Neo Geo X. I've heard the system is nothing more than Final Burn Alpha running on Android based hardware. Well I can always play FBA on my modded OG Xbox. I'm also wary of reports claiming there is significant input lag when you use the joystick / TV set up. This might be a deal breaker for me. I have a very fast TV with very low input lag. It's always a concern for me. I know CRT is always best when it comes to classic consoles. Unfortunately my house in LA is not set up for a second television. So what do you think I should do? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Batman VS Superman is without a doubt one of the best super hero movies I have ever seen in my entire life. Henry Cavill perfectly embodies the Superman ideal, and Ben Affleck might very well be the best Batman. I even loved Gal Gadot.

Best super hero movie? Really? Dawn of Justice is easily one of the worst films I've ever seen. From the discussions of people leaving the theatre, I wasn't the only one thinking that.

  14. Can you please put me down for number #18? Thanks very much. I'm a guaranteed sale.
  15. Thanks very much for having me! And also thank you for all that helpful information. I have loved the Neo Geo for years. The games on that system age like wine and they never seem to get old. Here in my city it seemed like there was always a 2 or 4 slot MVS machine within walking distance. Now I've noticed they're starting to dwindle. I've decided it's finally time for me to invest in my own hardware. Currently trying to decide between the AVS or the consolized MVS. I'm leaning towards the latter. Specifically a unit called the Neo Geo Omega. Honestly, if I had the cash I would just buy both. Thanks again for the warm welcome. I'll keep you posted on my quest.
  16. Do any of you play your Neo Geo systems on modern HDTVs? If so how does it far with issues like input lag? I have a fairly decent TV with a very low input lag, but I know nothing beats a true CRT. Unfortunately space is at a premium here in Los Angeles, and I don't have the room for a second television. Also, how do the graphics look on modern television? Thanks for any feedback you can provide.
  17. I believe both systems will have more power under the hood. Xbox so it can escape the stigma of being the less powerful system and the PS4 so it can dedicate the extra horsepower to the PSVR. I also believe that new console games will run on a sliding scale based on specs, like with PC games.
  18. Definitely happening and going to drop at E3 2016, along with the Nintendo NX. It's like a reboot of the entire current generation.
  19. Would it be possible to consolize the Atari Lynx?

    1. xucaen

      xucaen

I like that idea. I tried getting into handhelds with Gameboy, GBA, DS, etc.. it's just not my thing. I'd love to see a Lynx console, or even an add-on for 7800, XE, Jaguar, that could play Lynx games.

    2. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

Found it. This takes you most of the way there. Just buy a a Jaguar shell and finish the job, and call it Chameleon.

I think so. McWill vga out upgrade, wire a db9 port for master system or 7800 controller. Mobo could go in a case if you like.

  21. Is $100 a good price on a Game Gear full capacitor replacement and LED backlight mod?

    1. Bixler

      Bixler

If you're interested in playing quite a bit of Game Gear, I would say go for it.

    2. Kiwi

      Kiwi

I would buy it if you enjoy playing Game Gear games. Backlight LED mod will use less power(probably going to last 9-12 hours with high quality AA batteries) and capacitor replacement is a must for all Game Gear today.

What you want is a McWill GameGear with an LCD Screen and VGA out. THat is the Cadillac of GameGears!

  22. So do you think that people who currently own the Coleco brand will just give up on releasing a new Coleco branded console? Or do you think they might find someone else to make a new product, totally unrelated to the Chameleon, but having the Coleco brand? What if they went with a company like Innex and made a "trio" style multiconsole that played games from various classic game systems? Or what if they just made a clone version of the classic ColecoVision? Something tells me they're not just going to walk away from the retro market.
