Dust covers for consoles
Tubular Gearhead replied to SlowCoder's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The backing is some sort of light colored fabric, and although it is not abrasive, it is not really velour or anything. I think you would have to try real hard to get the cover to scratch a console... Also, the stitching on the logo is done really well. It would be great if a cover would be made to fit the 7800 + expansion module once that comes out. -
Dust covers for consoles
Tubular Gearhead replied to SlowCoder's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I believe ebay member nannyssewingtreatsbarb is the wife of a forum member. She doesn't currently have anything for auction but you can see from the completed auctions the dust covers: My link I have bought from this seller, and the covers are FANTASTIC! Highly recommended. Definitely worth supporting her efforts, if just to keep covers like this available. -
Alright, I know this doesn't really count as a thrift find, but I just had to throw this one out there. I snatched this up last month. 49 games, $39.99 eBay Auction -- Item Number: 130451643770 Read it and weep... BTW, the River Patrol is immaculate.

Does the flea market count? If so, then I got a great deal on a whole Intellivision setup with all boxed games once for $10. There was about 30 games including all the Imagic ones (with a perfect boxed Fathom ) plus several other real rare ones. The guy was selling the setup in a sort of bookshelf type thing from the 80's, and gave me that as well.

Kinda cool.... I guess eBay Auction -- Item Number: 170582093011

In both cases, well said. This is basically the bottom line. I am not quite sure why people are arguing about it- it is what it is. They are both good systems, but the NES got the "luxury treatment" as far as game development and the 7800 did not (far from it). The 7800 is very powerful in it's own right, but if given the same additional circuitry boost that many later NES games got just to keep the system viable, of course it could do most everything seen in Kirby's. It is as if some of the prior discussion is not being read, understood, or just ignored...

Huh. You guys argue that 7800 games should only be compared with NES games running on stock hardware. I do just that with Mario Bros., and then you say 7800 Mario Bros. shouldn't be compared because it's not programmed the best it can be (or at least, that's what it sounds like)?

LOL You guys are great. -
For example, take 7800 Tower Toppler, underwater levels, parallax scrolling and all, and picture that engine re-worked as a multi directional scrolling platformer. Expand it, refine it, and there is a theoretical example of what the 7800 could do in stock form.

Chaps? -
Was the 7800 Mario Bros. programmed the best it could be? Could it have been done in higher res mode??? How much effort was spent on it?

This was a joke, and meant w/o disrespect to any NES fanboys. But just to clarify my sarcasm (incase my point was not clear), I believe what was done with Kirby's Adventure was a scaled down version of exactly my prior post- and like others have stated- not a fair comparison. Kind of like how the functionality of the VCS adaptor for the ColecoVision was all on the expansion module and only used the rf of the CV. Sounds like all the real "amazing" processing in Kirby's was going on in the cartridge and not nesessarily in the NES- but the NES gets credit for it... It seems that if a developer were to remake the same game for the 7800 with the MMC5 chip, an additional sound chip, and whatever else on the cartridge (probably with a non-standard expanded case), it would be a fair comparison and probably even more so as the 7800 would inherently be able to move a lot of objects around w/o flicker. I think the only meaningful comparison is between the bare, basic machines. I think in this regard the 7800 can more than stand toe-to-toe with the NES.

Totally agree. So I was just thinking about this... If someone were to shoehorn the Xbox360 chips into a 7800 cartridge, then we could plug it in and finally quiet the NES fanboys.

Thank you tep392, that is very enlightening.

Disclaimer right up front: I am a self-proclaimed "king" of the search function, but I haven't found what I was looking for about the NES. I know a lot about the circuits of old game systems, and have modified quite a few, but I am really not as familiar with the NES as some of you folks. So please help if you can. After all my reading I can't find a detailed discussion of the actual chips contained in the NES. I don't really understand why the system is thought to be so much more powerful than the 7800. I understand that it benefitted by lots of funding, great programmers, cartridges with added circuits, etc. I know it could do tiles very well. But what chips EXACTLY did it have that would preclude the 7800 from keeping up- excluding the sound issue? Lets see: They both had an 8-bit cpu 6052 or equivalent. We all know about Maria, but what exactly did NES have in the basic box for graphics that surpassed what the 7800 had? I mean, given as much memory as you want (which the 7800 will soon have), and talented programmers, can we without a doubt say that because of *XXXX* hardware in the NES that the 7800 could not do the same game?

IMHO when someone says "make a deal and you have a deal", the "deal" they are referring to implies acceptance and follow-through by both parties- otherwise, your "deal" could have been for $1 (or $20 which is also rather low) and the seller would have to accept, which of course they don't... I believe this point has already been made. BTW, I will keep my eye out for one for you, as I am sure others will now that we know you are looking for one. -
Sounds like your egging GroovyBee on. Hey GroovyBee, any 7800XM game progress you want to share (more screenshots pretty please)?

Anyone get theirs yet? I saw one on Ebay this morning, but I think the seller was just using a promo photo. Still waiting for mine..... -
Am I way too late to get on any lists for this? I would like to get a copy when it comes out.

I also hesitatied to post this, but just for my $0.02... I have bought from Chris and he is very honest and lets his stuff go cheap if it is going to a good home (thanks for the Channel F Chris...) I just read his post/response and I am amazed that anyone would not understand it or have any further response on the matter. I totally agree with what he said. When selling so many items, nobody should be expected to spend all day answering every "maybe" request. Cash is king. Timing is everything. If you want it, make a strong offer and pay immediately. Period. -
So if I peel it, will I end up with an "ultra rare, super valuable Black Label Society variety" Yars' Revenge? Or will I end up with a piece of junk... I think I'll just leave it alone and play it.
