Jeeze, I don't know. They all have their pros and cons. The best AV preformance goes to FC-16 Go but its screen is junk and it doesnt have SNES controller ports. Then again, the 2.4Ghz wireless controllers it comes with are quite excellent. the Supaboy looks cool, but is bulky, as an irritating buzz and you can't use SNES controllers with it when its in portable mode. The RDP has a battery that lasts and lasts, but it's dpad is pretty bad and it has the worst video output of the three. If I could only have one, the answer would be: a real SNES or Super Famicom lol but that's not the point of these portables!

Hey guys, I thought I'd share with you my video review of the newly released RetroDuo Portable. This unit is the third of the portable SNES clones, but is third time a charm? I've split this review into two parts - hardware review and games compatibility stress test. I should have the second part up tomorrow. When I do, I'll add it to this thread. for now, the hardware review And again, for those curious on my thoughts on the other two portable SNES clones: Yobo FC-16 GO Hyperkin Supaboy

I wrote a guide for people like you who are asking themselves which system to get if they want to get into NES gaming. The fact of the matter is there is no single answer that's best for everyone. It depends on your level of passion for the NES, your preferences, and your budget. Here's my guide. http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/nesfamicom-starting-guide/ I will say though that the strongest choices are either an AV Famicom, a modified RetroDuo or emulation.

Ah my bad actually. that box is a near perfect replica with added turbo controls and the removal of the player 2 mic., even down to the Nintendo logo! most clones at leave had the decancy to remember the nintendo logo. Not these shameful guys apparently! That manual is even more of a 1:1 copy, even going as far as to just leave the stock photo of the HVC001 completely intact. Even so, it's a replica and not anything Nintendo printed. So let me make it clear: what you have there is a CLONE. There is no such offical Nintendo made HVC-001 that has turbo fire switches. Once you open it up, check to see what the PPU and CPU have written on them. There isn't a definitive answer, but that's most likely to tell you if it came from Hong Kong or South Korea. It's doubtful it came from Japan as they had much stricter piracy laws even back then. When you open it, lets see some pics!

Compataibility wise, they are nearly completely identical. Both will play 99% of all SNES and Super Famicom games, though the FC-16 GO has plastic tabs in its cartridge bay that physically prohibit Super Famicom games from fitting. Even so, you can break these off or melt them with an old soldering iron. Once removed Super Famicom games will fit and play perfectly fine. The only games that are incompatable with either unit are Super Ghouls n' Ghosts (the third stage boss is completely invisible on ALL SNES clones), Demon's Crest (again, later on there are some invisible enemies) and post 1996 SA-1 games such as Super Mario RPG and Kirby's Dreamland 3. These games will not work on either the FC-16 GO or the Supaboy. The ONLY games that the Supaboy will play that the FC-16 GO will not are Superscope games since the FC-16 GO lacks SNES 7 pin controller ports for the Super Scope receiver. Tomorrow, I hope to have a full review of the third portable to hit the scene, the RetroBit RetroDuo Portable up on my youtube channel. I'll be posting a link to it when it's done.

Hi, I'm Satoshi Matrix, staff member of Famicom World. What you have there is a Famicom HVC-001 box and manual, but the system itself is a Famiclone. It probbaly dates from around 1989. Open it up and chances are that's a entire discrete harcare clone, cloning each part sepertely. There's even a good chance the cloned PPU and CPU are socketed. If so, you can actually buy a REAL NES/Famicom PPU and CPU and just slot them in there. If you do, you'll essentically turn that clone into a real functional Famicom that's 100% compatable with all games!

Yeah that's what I'm hoping as well and long as Capcom doesn't throw a C&D at it. There are not one, but two builds that were dumped. The Jill game is far more complete than the Chris one and the only enemies that work in the game are the regular zombies, but the boses ARE there and all the game locations are present so it's only really a matter of crossing the t's and dotting the i's to get it fully working. Bug fixing is another matter, but I do have hope that this will happen.

Hey guys, just in case you haven't noticed, I've also started two new Miniseries on my youtube channel. These two new series are called The Adapter Factor and the Controller Chronicles. The Adapter Factor showcases cool controller adapters that allow you to use unmodified controllers with other consoles than they were designed for. The Controller Chronicles focuses on unusual controllers that are some of the best around in my view. Here's a listing of what I've done so far. I'll continue to post updates to this series, but the best way to keep informed is to visit my channel and subscribe. http://www.youtube.c.../SatoshiMatrix1 I'm posting a few videos every week now, so check back often for updates! I own both, and I think the answer really depends on what your looking for. Check out my video reviews of both units. I'll also have a review up of the brand new RetroBit RetroDuo Portable. FC-16 GO [/media] Supaboy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAxAu6kx7Zg

Yes indeed. I was the guest host of The Retro League Podcast this past week, so when it goes up I'll be sure to post a link. I talk extensively about my impressions of the GBC RE. Since it was cancelled at 90% complete, it's a major shame it never saw the light of day until now. It's extremely impressive for the GBC, and works out much better than Alone in the Dark, which came nearly two years later looking similar.

Famicom Black shell Cases! Where can I find ?
Satoshi Matrix replied to segawallnut's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I am indeed Satoshi Matrix, staff member of Famicom World. I'm glad to hear you guys know of us! Sadly, I don't think there is any such supplier. Also Famicom shells are notoriously difficult to open even with the right equiptment. What exactly are you seeking to do? -
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it does indeed feature Gwen Stefani's voice, but either way, its inconsequential. The vocie acting in Malice is forgettable at best. Most poeple would even go as far as to call the entire game forgettable or even awful, but I'm a fan of Malice. You've got a cute slightly deformed cartoon babe with a giant mallet in a decent 3D platformer. What's not to like? The game bombed commerically, and can be picked up for either the PS2 or Xbox for only a few bucks. I recommend the Xbox build - it looks a little sharper, always maintains its framerate, and I think its more suited for the Controller S than the duelshock 2.

Does not compute. There is NO SUCH THING. NES games are huge - it is impossible for them to not stick way out of any clone except for perhaps the Generation NEX. Anyway, I would suggest waiting a few weeks until reviews (including mine) pour in about how good the RetroDuo Portable is. It has the potential to best anything on the market currently, but we shall see. Don't buy a FC Mobile II - the build quality just ISN'T there and the NOACs have a tendancy to die. I've had two of them and they suck. Get a GameAxe Color if you can.

Best (and Worst) Video Game Endings?
Satoshi Matrix replied to BillyHW's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Best: Megaman 2: Megaman reflects on all the robots that he's had to fight and destroy. He fights for peace, justice and freedom, but is he ultimately just a killer robot...? Unable to find these answers, he marches through many seasons until finally, up on a grassy hill far from the city, Megaman stares up at the sky, dropping his helmet to the soft grass as if to say he found his answer. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island After one of the most epic boss battles in gaming history, the stork carries baby mario to the tune of an outstanding credits theme, and then presents baby mario to his parents along with baby luigi. Yeah its cheesy, but in a touching and beautiful kind of way. (Skip to 10:10) Final Fantasy VI How abotu that twenty one minute ending?? This whole ending just feels to me like a send off to the 16-bit era as a whole. Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard I won't spoil the ending, but man it had me rolling. Worst: Ghosts 'n Goblins Bubble Bobble -
Yeah. Megaman 3 is the buggiest of the NES games. Check out my original Megaman 3 review for more examples of the game being rushed to completion. http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2010/09/26/megaman-3-review-nes/ You can also find more interesting examples of its debug past here. http://tcrf.net/Mega_Man_3 Anyway thank you guys for the interest so far! The top 10 is well underway, so please look forward to it in the near future!

This thing looks excellent (that thumb stick looks incredible!) but based on how slim it is, it's undoubtably running some form of Neo-Geo emulator. The quality of the emulation is I guess what will determine the purchase for me. I'm also wondering if it'll allow users to put on their own games in addition to the 20 built in. Nothing against Metal Slug 1 and King of Fighters '94, but if I buy one of these I want to at the very least be running Metal Slug 3, King of Fighters 2000 and SNK vs Capcom. What the heck does the device need with four shoulder buttons if it's only doing Neo-Geo? I'm really looking forward to more details on things like battery life and overall cost. Probably not, but I'm hoping that this device will support emulation for mame and perhaps consoles too. That analog dpad looks outstanding!
