NES Zapper vs LCD T.V. Any hope?

I wonder if it's possible to design a "homebrew" Zapper that uses a sensitive enough light sensor and some way of adjusting for lag, while a dile or something. -

The other thing is the battery life. There's a little piece of homebrew code that allows users to manually set the brightness level to settings beyond what the factory settings. Almost always, I find 30% brightness to be more than enough when playing in bed. THis makes the battery last somewhere around 10 to 12 hours, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for my 3DS.

I haven't posted here much on my feelings about the PSP yet, so I'll voice them now. I personally LOVE the PSP as a portable emulation device. I literally use mine every single night before I go to sleep. The PSP's brilliant, large screen and the 2000 and 3000 slim design make comfortable and ideal. The PSP handles most classic consoles with ease and very importantly for me, most emulators offer screenshot support enabling me to compile images I use for my blog. I use mine to play GB/GBC, Master System, GameGear, GameBoy Advance, NES, Genesis, as well as the PSP's own library of fantastic games including quite a number of absolutely kick ass RPGs and PS1 classics. SNES emulation on the PSP ranges from so-so to downright bad, but everything else is really top notch. For the price you can get a PSP 3000 for, you really can't go wrong. Modding is super easy nowadays and as it's a dedicated console merely hacked to run emulators, there's also a library of retail games to fall back on, many that will appeal directly to retro gamers such as the Namco and Capcom collections, Megaman Maverick Hunter X, a slew of fantastic Ys remakes, Lunar Silver Star Harmony, the Final Fantasy remakes, and so much more. Ignore the naysayers - the PSP is a bloody fantastic option. Keep in mind though that you'll need to buy a memory card to go with the PSP as with the exception of the GO, there is no onboard storage. 8GB cards really aren't that much and they'll store hundreds of classic games and a few retail ones as well. The question shouldn't be "should I buy a PSP for a portable emulation device." Instead you should be asking "Why don't I already own a PSP"?

I really want to buy a 4:3 CRT that supports HD resolutions. What do you have? All info would be helpful - brand, size of the screen, approximate cost, model number, etc. This is something I want to invest in before they become impossible to find. I mean, more than they already are. I assume they aren't doing it for legal reasons. Also the whole point is to use your original carts - otherwise, you might as well emulate on a modded Xbox or something along those lines. I share your hope for GBA side being controllable with SNES controllers. This is something I doubt Hyperkin will do though as it would require additional R&D with the 4021 control chip. You must not have read very closely, because Hyperkin's announcement has said nothing about GB/GBC support, ONLY GBA. I could be wrong, but I suspect the RetorN4 will not contain the Z-80 for GB and GBC games and thus will only play GBA. What makes you think that? I highly doubt that's the case at all. All systems are very likely simply reverse engineered on a chip (or a few chips) same as always. -

Damnit Hyperkin, you got me legitimately curious! HDMI output? GBA compatibility? Bluetooth wireless controller? This all sounds good on paper. I reallllllly hope they put in a better NOAC here. As an owner of many Hyperkin products, I have to say I've been woefully disappointed by the vast majority of their products, including the RetroN3. More than likely, I'll buy one for review. Right now with as little information as we're currently given, I have many questions looming over this product. StoneAgeGamer, when you get the proto system, could you see about answering some of these questions? 1. How exactly will HDMI output work? There is no NES-on-a-chip that supports anything better than composite. For the NES side, is Hyperkin simply planning on feeding a composite signal through HDMI as they did with the S-Video signal on the RetorN3? 2. Will OEM Nintendo and Sega controllers work? I assume so given the RetorN series history, but it's still an important question to ask. 3. Will the device be HDMI only? As in, no other video standards? 4. GBA compatibility sounds exciting, but there's quite a number of questions looming over this concept alone. How will you control GBA games? Will GBA games be fullscreen? Will they include the entire GBA chipset meaning GameBoy and GameBoy Color games are also playable? 5. Compatibility! Will the current issues with the NES and especially SNES sides of the RetorN3 be fixed? -
