  1. I didn't know this Rudy Ferretti nor did I have any interaction with him. But from what I'm reading here I have a word for what he was: a narcissist and a sociopath, last and foremost he was a big coward.

People that use the Internet to harass other people are cowards with an inferiority complex in the mix.

Regarding this type of person having mental issues, nobody can force them into therapy or mental treatment; this Rudy was an adult.

    RIP Ms. Amy Molter

I'm sorry for her children and family

    Namco Flashback Blast Pacman "v3.0"

First off, sorry if this doesn't belong in this sub. I just wanted to shed some light on this subject.

As some of you may already know, AtGames released an hdmi stick called Blast last fall that you plug into your TV and play arcade games with the included controller. The big controversy surrounding it when it launched was that they sent good ones out to the reviewers before it came out, and the units consumers got in the end was an inferior version with nes rom versions of the games instead of the arcade versions that the reviewers got. Basically a bait and switch.

Well, I bought one from Walmart the other day and it had the actual arcade versions on it and in the main menu it shows "wd3306w v3.0". AtGame's Q&A section of their website says:

We plan to make incremental version changes as we continue production including introducing the arcade version.

It doesn't give any more info about it. I'm hoping they could release a firmware update that can transform the old units into the new version v3.0 for all the people that felt cheated when they first got it when it launched last fall.

A quick google search couldn't find me any info about the software versions for Namco Flashback Blast Pacman, nor could I find any info about updating existing units that are stuck with the crummy nes rom versions. An update exists, because I have it on mine. v3.0. Does anyone on here know anything more about this? If you have one, what batch code is on your box?

EDIT: For further investigation, I purchased another one off Amazon and got the one with the non-arcade nes roms. It was only about $7, so I said what the hell. Here's what I learned: The bad one's with the nes roms don't have any version info at all in the menus, like "v1.0" or anything. However, the outer box says "Batch Code: H10710" on the bottom side. The good one with the real arcade versions I got from Walmart says "Batch Code: D10707". Both boxes are near identical, so I hope this info helps anyone thinking about purchasing one of these in the future.

PS: I should also note that all Walmart versions, new and old, have Pac-Mania as one of the 8 games instead of The Tower of Druaga, which every other store got. I'm not sure how or if this affects the batch code on the box.

So how do I know if I am getting an original trooper or the new better batch?

I think by comparing the serial number they have, I read of somebody here that did that.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the release of MEAN SANTA (this homebrew ATARI 2600 game was originally released in December 2009),

programmer John K. Harvey and myself (game designer Tim Duarte) have agreed to decide to release the game ROM, instruction manual, and full source code to the general public.

The ROM file is for use on the Stella emulator, Harmony cartridge, Atari Flashback 9 on an SD card, Atari Flashback portable on an SD card, etc.

The ROM file is not to be used to manufacture and sell physical Atari 2600 game cartridges.

If you would like MEAN SANTA in physical cartridge form, please visit my web site: http://www.2600connection.com/features/mean_santa/features_mean_santa.html

It has the ordering information. If you have any questions, please let me know.

You can scroll all the way down to the bottom of my web site page and you will discover I have posted the ROM files ( NTSC and PAL), a PDF of the manual, and the assembly source code that John found after all of these years!

I will also attach the files to this message as well.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and have some fun playing this game!

    Enjoy!

Have you played games like this on a vintage Atari machine? It sounds like you're coming at this with modern eyes, which could be disappointing if you don't know what you're getting into.

Mmmm maybe, my partner has a standalone PacMan portable that you can see alright, and yes I saw Pacman circa 1981 in a B&W TV it looked great. I'll give it another look, and I'm not returning the portable.

My worst nightmare has come true.  My RGB modded light-sixer that I use for the show no longer works.

I was taking it apart to take photos of the insides for further troubleshooting of the issue I was having with Harmony Encore specific games. When I put it all back together and turned it on, nothing happened. No picture, no sound. I plugged in the RF output to check if it was just the RGB out, same thing, no picture no sound. I tried the power supply on an Atari Jr, no problem there as it powered up. I take the whole thing apart again, there's no disconnected wires and nothing obvious.

Sadly I know next to nothing about electronic repairs and my multimeter recently broke so I've ordered another one just now.

I was also in the process of ordered a kit to recap my system in case that was the issue with the Harmony Encore:

BUT, the show must go on and I will continue by using Stella for the show. In the meantime, enjoy these pictures of my non-operative RGB modded light-sixer and let me know if you think anything is out of order that I should look at.

I'm sorry, no, the 9-specific paddles will not be produced. I believe there *may* possibly be an upgrade option, but I wouldn't count on that, unfortunately. An internal mod, or having regular paddles modified, are likely going to be the only two options.

I bought an Atari Flashback 9 and well for the paddle games I have an Atari 2600 4 switcher and an Atari 2600 light sixer. I'm not an electronics welder and not likely to go to trade school or college to study that. I spent the majority of my young adult life at college studying natural sciences and programming (no I'm not a game dev)

    Just my two cents

Atari demonstrably bans people they find inconvenient. No more, no less. It's not for personal attacks, hate speech, the "trolling" catch-all, or any of their other silly excuses.

The Parker siblings, the Werners, Lucas...these are simply useful idiots for the cause. Foot soldiers. Enforcers. Atari won't disavow these morons because they'll gladly do Atari's dirty work.

I would like to know if they get good money  for doing that. Seriously it's about a console and games we love; the old Atari and PacMan a four switcher that when I seen it fell hard for video games.

With all the basement talk, I figured I might as well point out what a typical troll/hater's basement looks like.

I mean a troll or hater basement? I tell you this basement belongs to a fan that loves arcades and pinballs machines.

I loved those when I was young but I couldn't use my lunch money on them, saw many kids do that in the PacMan behemoth arcade machine.

By the way, when I shared my article thursday on Facebook, I tagged the Atari VCS account as usual. But I found out later that it had been 'untagged'. I had no idea it was possible to do that... ?

Yes, anyone tagged can untag themselves on Facebook

  12. Any idea over the price? I'm on a tight budget but definitely will buy, I'll begin to put money on my piggy bank. Had to buy a car because my pick up transmission gave up, that eats up a good chunk of my paycheck.

    Thanks

2019-Aug-3:  Version 2 of the demo ROMs (NTSC and PAL60) have been added to this post.

Version 1 demo ROMs can be found in this post

    Hello all!

Yesterday, the Champ Games 'secret project' was revealed live on Zero Page Homebrew's Twitch stream:  Galaga for the Atari 2600!

This game was developed over the last 6 weeks by Nathan Strum (graphics, game design), Ross Keenum (music and sound) and myself (design and programming).  It is about 90% complete with just a few bugs to be fixed and bells & whistles to be added.

Here are a few pics of the game in action:

    Game features:

    • 1 or 2 players (alternating) with plans to add in a 2 player co-op mode
    • NOVICE, STANDARD and ADVANCED skill levels
    • a special CHALLENGE game mode where you compete with only CHALLENGE stages
    • all enemies from the arcade included (thanks Nathan!)
    • all music and sound from the arcade included (thanks Ross!)
    • High scores for all game modes; will support save to Atarivox/Savekey
    • Will support Nathan Tolbert's multi-tap (QuadTari) for 2 player with Atarivox/Savekey
    • A/B switch to enable/disable auto-fire (A = no auto-fire aka like the arcade; B = auto-fire with button held down)
    • Pause game via Color/BW / Pause (7800) switch
    • Technical details:  the game uses the new CDFJ driver (Stella 6.1 or better) and runs on both the Harmony & Harmony Encore.  It also runs on the latest community build of Stella on the Retron 77 (thanks Nathan for the confirmation!)

A video of the reveal and the game in action can be viewed on ZPH's Twitch stream archive (link above).

We are planning on releasing a playable demo ROM sometime in the near future once a few bugs are fixed.  A cart release has not been planned yet (I haven't talked directly to Al about it since the reveal) but I'm sure it will be available in the AA store at some point. :)

Thanks to Nathan and Ross for all their hard work in getting this game together in such a short period of time, and special thanks to James & his team at ZPH for taking the time to debut the game on the ZPH Twitch stream.  It was a lot of fun! :D

EDIT: I just realized that the screen shots are super small (not sure why).  I was trying to give Nathan a break from having to do all the work but obviously I should leave this stuff to the experts!
