VIC-20 BASIC ROM and eprom programmers
rasch_C replied to rasch_C's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
Thanks for the responses! Lots of good info. I think for now I'll try reaching out to eslapion on Denial (looks like he did respond to my thread over there). It will be quicker and simply for me in the short term (so many other projects). I am still interested in getting a burner setup and messing around with burning my own eproms, however. So, I will continue to look at the above links on that quest. Thank you, -Allen -
So, I am in need of a replacement BASIC ROM chip (MOS 901486-01) for my VIC-20. I have not been able to locate one yet (I actually may have at www.vccave.com, but have no experience w/ them). Investigating further, it seems as though I may be able to get a replacement eprom and burn the proper coding (assuming someone has a dump of the BASIC ROM code) onto it as a replacement. Is this correct thinking? Looks like the 24-pin eproms are non-existent, but a 28-pin eprom can be used by properly adapting it. I am fairly new to the concept of burning chips, but have been toying around w/ getting an eprom burning setup for a while. As I am new to this area, any advise is appreciated! -Allen

Anyone have experience w/ Vintage Computer Cave (www.vccave.com)? It looks like they may have the ROM chip. -Allen

OK, I originally had Battle Duel, which sounds like a very generic, 3rd rate version of Combat. I now have Wizard Duel. I'll take Wizard Duel for $400, Alex! -Allen

Gentleman's son told him to post his collection on Craigslist to get rid of it. He said to post it for whatever price. I got all for the $20 asking price! -Allen

Did the legendary status come before or after being immortal 🤣. I enjoyed watching this as well, as always. I see what you were going for with this addition and it is really great! -Allen

Collecting goals and status for 2018
rasch_C replied to Keatah's topic in Classic Console Discussion
What do you want to acquire? I want to start focusing on the roots (Atari 2600 and computer (PC & Commodore)). I try to also acquire 1 system a year. At this time my sights are now getting to the more obscure. Either a 3DO, Jaguar, or Vectrex - whichever one I can get a deal on. Next in line in the Commodore collection would probably be a PET of some sort. And, getting back to focusing on my roots, I'll probably look for a 386 or 486 PC or two. I currently have a 1.2Ghz machine with W98se that plays most things I want, but is not fully DOS compatible. What do you want to sell off? I have a few items (systems/games) that I'm always going through as part of the growth of the collection. Do you want to "right-size" your collection to fit a certain lifestyle? With my recent life changes, it comes down to limiting my acquisitions. I think it's about right size for me at the moment and the above mentioned purchases would be acceptable. Do you want to get rid of excess doubles and triples? Who doesn't have excess doubles and triples? What we use for trading fodder and system sellers. Do you want to sell recently purchased things that are not so cool now that you have them? My non-impulse (read cheap) purchases usually exceed my expectations actually. So, no. Is there 1 single magical and highly desirable piece you're hunting for? Still looking for a complete Gameline and Steel Battalion. The Gameline seems to be harder to find these days than a couple years ago. Do you have too much stuff to fully enjoy what you have today? I'm sure most people in the hobby have a huge backlog of games. At 550 consoles games and 12 or so systems, the biggest challenge is having time to play. Hence why I want to limit my acquisitions going forward. I want to concentrate on playing, programming, and tinkering. -Allen -
Received mine they other day. They are really nice! I haven't had a chance to attach them yet, though. -Allen

I wouldn't say very rare/obscure (not like a kiosk or Air Raid). However, I would think uncommon - rare. Nice find at any rate. I don't even have a box for any of my 2600s at this point and do not have a promotional unit myself, FWIW. -Allen
-
Yeah. I had my son do most of the work as experience for him. He did awesome. Proud of him. -Allen

Board all cleaned up and rebuilt. Back into TV and working like a dream again! -Allen
-
I believe these were simply standard units just issued at promotional events. Great deal at any rate! -Allen
-
Right. The board was really bad. My thought is that maybe someone spilled something on it at one point in time. I have been doing a lot of cleaning to it and ordered parts (caps, inductors, and some diodes). Everything is prepped to start rebuilding the board. I'll hopefully have it back together in next few days (family obligations non-withstanding). -Allen

Rare 2600 stuff - Imagic Kiosk / Newport Prosticks / Sears H6
rasch_C replied to Andred's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
One of my goals is to have an Imagic kiosk. I, however, will be out of the running for this one unfortunately. -Allen -
I had some caps leak on my Sony KV34HS420 TV and it took out one of the inductors on the A board. I am not familiar w/ an inductor that looks like this. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction so I can order a replacement. It was the L507 inductor (above the top cap). -Thank you, Allen
