I've been hoping for an update as well. I'm not expecting this to be on my doorstep this week (though that would be nice), but some communication would be appreciated. With the project link on the AtariMuseum site, I feel that I've been something of a "refresh monkey" as of late. -Rob

Super Game Module a gamers perspective
theredlineboss replied to the.golden.ax's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
My mindset is basically the same, as I have immediate access to most of the common consoles (for North America). I prefer to see ports of games which were not widely available on a vintage platform outside of the arcade, were exclusive to another country / region (Japan), or even those which were exclusive to a PC platform (such as Adam). This is why I wound up purchasing Super Pac Man, Moon Cresta, and Scramble for the 7800. That said, significantly enhanced versions of existing titles do catch my attention - D2K and Pac Man 4k being titles that pique my interest. -Rob -
recommend a GBA multicart
theredlineboss replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have both a SuperCard SD and a EZFlash IV, and the EZFlash is definitely better. It's been awhile since I have tried it, but I seem to recall that most of the games I tried on the Supercard ran slow; have not had that issue with the other EZFlash. The SuperCard did handle NES emulation rather well, so that's all I use the card for at this point. My only complaints about the EZFlash IV are that it uses MiniSD cards (not a big deal; just had to order an adapter for microsd) and that the internal battery had a very short life. I believe I had the cart for about 3 months before I started receiving errors about the battery being dead. Once again, it's an annoyance - it doesn't seem to prevent me from playing or saving games w/ the device. -Rob -
What is your favorite retro and modern system?
theredlineboss replied to xDragonWarrior's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Retro: 7800. This was a bit tough, as I have memories of the Intellivision, while the 7800 and Colecovision have my attention at the moment. Modern: Xbox 360. PS3 is a strong contender, but I prefer the 360's controller. And the 360 doesn't annoy me quite as much with lengthy updates + installations. -Rob -

I'd say it was a converted Xenophobe: http://gamesdbase.com/game/arcade/xenophobe.aspx -Rob

Hm, my choice for an epic console would be a fully-loaded Genesis: (yes, I know there were other add-ons available) -Rob

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
theredlineboss replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Not a thrift find or even gaming-related, but I picked up a Rock-Ola 446 jukebox for the princely sum of Free! Granted, the wood's in very poor shape, but it looks like it will work with a bit o' effort. Just what I need, another big coinop machine, lol. -Rob -

Converting a Scramble to 60-in-one Jamma
theredlineboss replied to Chuck D. Head's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Congrats on the purchase! I got bit by the arcade bug about a year ago and now have 4 cabinets + (as of last night) a pinball machine. So be careful: these things can multiply. -Rob -

Service Offered: Atari Jaguar system repair
theredlineboss replied to the.golden.ax's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Just wanted to give props to Ax for this service. My Jag fried due to an unfortunate incident involving a NES AC adapter & he brought it back to the land of the living. Thanks again! -Rob -
The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
theredlineboss replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Picked these up in November and December. Both were listed on craigslist & I have posted them on other boards but...: Frogger Here it is chillin' with my Taito / Bloody Wolf cab. Picked it up minus the PCB for $10. Otherwise it was complete, but it must have been stored in a damp area, as the lower 6 inches were rotten. Have since replaced the wood, so it's now structurally sound. Lots o' work left; hope to have it done by the spring. Defender This one turned out to be a pretty good find. Was advertised as a nonworking machine for Free- just needed to be able to get it out of the owner's basement. The owner didn't know anything about the machine, except that it was there when he bought the house & the previous owner said it worked, though he had never seen it function. When I got it home, I decided to plug it in and turned on the power switch. Success! He must not have known where the switch was located, lol. It's a Defender cab with a Sega ESwat board. Will be converting this to a MultiWilliams. -Rob -
Classic consoles you've never played...
theredlineboss replied to ToddUGA's topic in Classic Console Discussion
There are a few that I have not played (arcadia, studio II, odyssey, cdi), but for the most part, I don't have plans to add them to my colection. The ones I haven't played & I want to have are the Astrocade and Vectrex. Judging by the posts above, I'm not the only one though . -Rob -
Very nice - I normally avoid silver for older electronics (as it seems to be more of a "newer" color), but it works quite nicely with the black buttons & the nameplate. I've been toying with the idea of giving the same treatment to a SNES...would certainly look better than yellow. -Rob

I too look forward to any new functionality this will give to the 7800. I most likely won't seek out a keyboard (at least at first), but more options are a good thing. Also, was just noticing it's been about 1 year since I placed my pre-order (11/20). While it has taken longer than anticipated, I realize that some things are worth waiting for. -Rob

Game Gear or Lynx: Which handheld to buy?
theredlineboss replied to Metal Ghost's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have both systems and while I like the Lynx, I prefer the Game Gear. In my case, it does a better job of catering to my cheapskate nature, as a variety of games are readily available locally for cheap (usually 3-5 bux each). The capacitor issue on the GG is a bit of a concern; I had to have the caps replaced in mine, whereas the Lynx hasn't had any issues. And as others have mentioned, both systems are battery hogs- in fact, these were the main reason I decided to switch over to rechargeable batteries, lol. -Rob -
have you ever hated a console?
theredlineboss replied to Tr3vor's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I can't say that I've hated any particular system that I've owned. As long as there is something worth playing & is affordable, I can enjoy the system. I think that the only one I am disliking is the wonderswan; it seems that some of the truly good games cost a surprising amount of $$. Beyond this, any hatred would be because of hardware failures, such as: My NES and the infernal blinking screen (repaired) The phat PS2 and its short-lived laser (repaired) -and- My 360 which had 3 or 4 RROD's. To date, this is the *only* system in my "personal collection" which I have given up hope of ever working right. It now sits in "detention", while a slim takes care of business. -Rob -

theredlineboss replied to Bratwurst's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Interested in the FC3. PM on its way. -Rob -
The game arrived just in time for me to finally get my classic systems hooked up again. I gotta say that I'm very pleased with my first homebrew purchase. -Rob
