Would it cost anything to upgrade to the new RAM? I don't want to spend too much on this board. Also, will the upgrade affect any games?

I really don't have any anti-static foam or padding to send these chips to you. Would it be OK for me to send the entire system board? Also, how much would you charge to test the board and replace the defective components? I don't want to spend alot of money to get this unit working.

I already tried inserting the cartridge and turning on the power, but this didn't work. I have an Atari 800 XL and live in Phoenixville, PA. Do you think this is the only issue or could other chips have blown also?

Yes, when I swapped the chip it was in one of the other RAM sockets. Do you think this is the only problem or do have other suggestions?

I have a chip that gets warm when the unit is powered on. I believe this is causing a problem where nothing happens when I insert a cartridge and hit Start. This may have been caused by a defective power supply which has been replaced. The monitor is good. I swapped the chip to another location with one that wasn't getting warm to confirm the chip was the problem, not the location. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement chip to see if this fixes the problem? The chip is a Mostek MK4564N-15IRL and was originally in location U15. There is also another number C060612-009. I think this is a memory chip, but I don't have a schematic to verify. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is a picture of my power sipply. I'm new to this site so I hope I attached the file correctly. If you think the supply is bad, would I just need to replace this or could it have damaged my computer, too?

An update to my problem: I discovered that if I disconnect the black audio cable on the back of the monitor, the hum disappears. Also, I can now see a display on the monitor, but it is just a bunch of lines. Do you think the Atari is OK and I just need to replace the monitor? I'd like to narrow down the problem to one or the other device?

Thanks, I will try that. The noise is actually more of a hum rather then a buzzing and I do have the power light illuminated. It would be nice to have a spare supply, but unfortunately I don't.

Hello, I have an Atari 800 XL attached to a Taxan monitor using a composite video cable. When I power up the computer with a cartridge inserted, there is a humming or buzzing sound and no display on the monitor. I have tried holding down the Option key while powering up and this didn't make a difference. Since I don't have a spare monitor or Atari to try, I'm not sure which device is causing the problem. I have tried the TV switchbox on my TV, but there is still no display. However, this may be due to an incompatibilty problem. Has anyone come across this issue before and could offer troubleshooting suggestions? I'd appreciate any advice. I really enjoy playing the old time games and would like to get this working again. Thanks
