My buddy and I played Quest for the Rings...
x=usr(1536) replied to BoatofCar's topic in Odyssey 2 / Videopac
Back when Conquest of the World was still a current title, a relative gave me a copy of it for (IIRC) a birthday present. The objectives made sense to me, but the rules seemed complex and the pace slow. In fairness to the game, I was, quite probably, too young for it and simply didn't have the patience necessary to play it. This is one that I would like to obtain another copy of (assuming I can't find the one I originally had) and give it another shot as an adult just to see if my perspective has changed enough in 30-odd years to make it playable. The little square magnetic tiles used to mark player positions on the board did a great job of spelling 'FART' on my parents' fridge, however. They were not as amused by that as I was, for some reason. -

Heh, I had Conquest of the World from the same series. Overwhelming memories: - How the hell am I supposed to actually play this? - These little square magnetic tiles do a great job of spelling 'FART' on the refrigerator - Neat box art, looks nothing like the actual game - I'm bored, firing up UFO! instead I might actually have some of the original bits and pieces somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

LEDs can totally take the place of usable hardware. Just ask Michael Arzt! Oh, wait - he knows even less about what goes in that AtariVCSbox than anyone. Never mind.

We have been talking Atari, Biff. And tacos. Lots and lots of tacos.

'x=usr', not 'Xuser'. If you're going to attribute things to me that have no basis in reality, at least spell my username correctly. But, man, you sure called this one: I positively love nothing better than grinding down my family members over the most trivial crap. It's fun! I'd say that the whole family plays along, but really it's just me being my male oppressor self towards them; they truly don't stand a chance and cower in anxious anticipation every time it looks as though I may be about to belittle them. Such cherished memories! Now, if you'll pardon me, I have to go humiliate the cat.

But... But... But... I've only got, like, four ways remaining on my desk that I can use all those hip new streaming services (that have been around for ages) with now that I moved a couple of other potential streaming playback devices into another room! If something happens to one of the remaining ones, I might have to use a different device! Save me from the terror and peril, AtariVCSbox! SAVE ME!!!

Hmm... The poll needs an option for the early dedicated consoles. In addition to the computers and later consoles, I also have a Super Pong and Video Pinball. Somewhere there was also a handheld Touch Me floating around, but I fear that one may have been lost.

This, right here, is what absolutely none of the AtariVCSbox shills will ever get, understand, or comprehend. They want to create and market an Atari Lifestyle. And they're trying to do it to people who aren't lifestylers - they're just people who have done this for their entire lives. When you've done this for your entire life, it's not a lifestyle; it's just what you do. And it gives you good eyes, ears, and noses for bullshit. More tacos, less bullshit, s'il vous plaît, AtariVCSboxCorp, Inc.

If you're going to quote Videodrome, at least spell 'retina' correctly.

Beauty!

True, but keeping with the car analogy for a moment, Nissan revived the Datsun name a few years back for use in markets where they wanted a little more perceptual separation of models at one end of the range from models at another end. I could see something similar potentially happening with the Atari name. Then again, this isn't the car market. The basic idea has merit, but would (IMHO) be trickier to pull off simply because of how the market is structured and competes within itself.

Tap the vein and cram a Jaguar in it?

Someone please tell me this is a joke. Frankly, I'd rather see this being funded as an actual stage show: -
Factory code? That's pretty much the best guess I've got.

Mmmm, yeah, I'm gonna have to go with 'tacos' on this one.

I like you, Internet.

We're still on the PS3 here, and completely skipped both the PS4 and XboxOne. Neither of those consoles offered anything we could see as being a compelling enough reason to upgrade, and came across as being more of the same in a different package but with better graphics. The reality is that we're not going to be interested in the PS5 or XboxWhateverComesNext unless there is a compelling reason to do so. But repurchasing the same titles we already own so that they can be played on a higher-resolution screen just isn't going to cut it.

I am posting this solely to increase AtariVCSboxCorp's SEO rankings. Mark my words: when the glorious day comes that the AtariVCSbox takes the worldwide gaming market by storm and annihilates all other consoles in the marketplace, this very post will come to be recognised as the one that propelled public awareness and market acceptance of the AtariVCSbox into the exosphere and beyond. Also, my AtariVCSboxCorp stocks shall be worth more than all other stocks combined, and I will have a giant party all the time. With hookers. And blackjack. And it'll be on Jupiter!

When it's worn as an inextricably-ingrained part of a deeply self-promoting persona, yes. Wearing one because it's appropriate to a given situation or simply because one wants to... Perfectly fine. -
There I go again, confusing 'ability to execute' with 'we might remember to hit the 'post' button this time'. Silly me!

Folks, we're all overlooking something important here: AtariVCSboxCorp, Inc. still has nine days to complete a working prototype and controllers, put together a media blitz team, announce the living hell out of it, and totally put us all in our respective curmudgeonly places. There is nothing unrealistic about this deadline or their ability to meet it. Additionally, I was surprised to find that flight-capable simians were erupting from my rectal orifice a few moments ago.
