Got the second C19 vaccine (Pfizer) a couple of hours ago. Hurts less around the injection site than no. 1 did. Feeling slightly lightheaded and queasy, but nothing terrible; it's about equivalent to mild motion sickness.

The height of an Atari 850 with a 1010 stacked on top of it is almost exactly the same as the height of a 1050 with a 1030 stacked on top of it.
The more you know!

I hope that the UAV I ordered is having a great time in wherever the USPS has lost sight of it. Should've been here yesterday; tracking status is now the equivalent of a shrugging emoji.

Idiocracy? Loved it! FOX really dropped the ball on that one, huh? No reason in the world it shouldn't have gone to the theater. You'd think Mike Judge, the man behind Office Space (the Pink Floyd of DVD sales...Continuously selling) would have been given free reign, but nooooo...Perhaps it really was the advertisers, i.e. the fact they used real world corporations and didn't exactly make them look good...Starbucks? We don't have time for a hand job right now...

What's weird is that I can remember seeing posters advertising it dotted around a couple of places in L.A. Checked into the premise, decided I wanted to see it, and it was gone. This is on a timeframe of maybe two or three days between seeing the poster and being ready to buy a ticket.
From what I understand, the studio was contractually obliged to release it, so did the absolute bare minimum that they could in that regard and still fulfill the terms of the contract. My suspicion is that they were afraid that their audience would see too much of themselves in the film and feel insulted

For anyone who might be wondering: the forum's ignore function only works if you don't stop ignoring people in order to see what they've said about you.

Pro: Apple's mail-your-hardware-in service is excellent.
Con: I've now had to use it twice - for the same machine - since the end of January.

3-year-old Macbook Pro. This is one of the ones that got the crappy keyboard that always fails, so when, in January, it failed for the second time I sent it back.
The upgraded keyboard is actually usable (though nothing particularly stellar), but it came back with a replacement battery that started refusing to charge above 80% after three or four weeks. That 80% number then began gradually creeping downwards, followed by the bottom of the case getting very warm and slightly bulged.

My 2016 MacBook Pro bit the dust awhile ago, and I replaced it with a 2019 16 inch model (and some some retro games and systems had to go out the door for $$ ugh...). Couldn't wait for the Apple Silicon ones coming late this year, and I need to run Windows natively.
All that said, it really points out what a POS that butterfly keyboard is (2019 16 inch and all 2020 13 inch went back to normal keyboards). Also, it seems like Apple makes a major design change, the first couple of generations have problems. Sometimes thinking differently is not in a good way...

Day 6327 of attempted 800XL Mitsumi keyboard reassembly, or it at least feels like it. I may just say to hell with it and find a replacement keyboard at this rate.

Was a good movie i have watched countless times.
- (Steve Buscemi) "Anybody gives us any static, I shove this in their face."
- (Adam Sandler) "Ahhh."
- (Adam Sandler) "Yeah, but remember that fat kid on "Hard Copy" with a toy gun. The cops zapped him with a taser until he went bald."
- (Steve Buscemi) "And then he sued them for a million bucks when his pubes didn't grow in."
- (Adam Sandler) "Still got no hair on his balls, man."

Forgot to add antigel to the Jeep's tank last time I filled up. Now it won't start. Hadn't made that mistake in over 20 years. Crap.

Slipped on ice and fell three times today. Twice landed on my left elbow. Didn't hit my head, but have a headache from pain radiating up through my neck from the left shoulder. Feels like a light whiplash. Ugh.

The 850 listed as non-working that I took an eBay gamble on arrived today. Powers up and I can hear the 600XL load the drivers (confirmed by '? FRE(0)'). Now if I could just find one of my USB to Serial adapters so that I can actually test the thing, but initial signs are good.
-
Sweet - the R: handler is installed at boot, so most of what it should be doing seems to be working. Have cables with 850-specific serial pinouts en route, so should hopefully be good to go once they arrive. This opens up the possibility of running the BBS directly on the Atari, which is a rabbit hole I'll go down once some time frees up.

Thanks, SNK, for planting the theme song to 'Psycho Soldier' in my head for the last two days straight. At least you managed to use the English-language version, which I appreciate - so much kinder than putting it there in a language I don't understand.

Has anyone ever had a package shipped to them from China with 4PX as the carrier? If so, how well did that go overall?
-
@batari: oof. Well, that's what I was beginning to suspect. Appreciate the insight.

The cats appear to be all hopped up on goofballs at the moment.

Speaking about old comic books, I recommend checking early Superman comics. When a criminal dies, Superman feels happy and screams "he got what he deserved!". Editors had to call the writer out for that after a couple of years and that was the beginning of his moral code we know today.
About cats, yeah, they're Q. I mean, cute, they're cute. Don't know what I was thinking!

Sent laptop to Apple on Tuesday. Got notification yesterday evening that the repair was complete and it was being shipped back to me. FedEx dropped it off late this afternoon. Colour me impressed.

I've circumvented my dislike of whatever the default window manager is that shipped with Raspbian Buster by just RDPing into a Windows 10 VM. Sure, that gives me other things to dislike, but at least they're ones I'm able to work with.
FWIW, I'd use Windowmaker on this thing if I felt like spending the time to install it and switch over, but then I'd still be stuck with things like no decent O365 support, etc. I just want to get work done, and screw around on here. )

Spilling things into your MacBook Pro is a great way to learn that the only usable backup system in the house is a RasPi 3B+.

I really wish that the American public would figure out that it's not a tax refund, it's an interest-free loan to the government being returned.

Haha, "thinking" is a bit tough on me, makes life unfun sometimes, 'specially Government stuff, but I never thought about the taxes that way, but that totally seems right to me.
Not saying "Right"/"Wrong", I suppose everyone has a responsibility to "do their part" to keep the country running, whatever their country is, even mebbe up to an interest free loan to the Government, tho again, that's "thinking", and my head hurts already, I just thought the new perspective was funny/interesting/on point.

Just had COVID-19 test no. 2 this week. Boy, did they get right up in there with the swab this time. Twisted it, too!

Here it takes 1-3 days to get results for the State tests; I quit doing Rapid Tests as they weren't 100% and they still required you to get State test results, plus they were $80 out of pocket. Yeah they really swabbed my brain on those tests...Some people I work with got the newer test where they use saliva or something and it doesn't hurt, which would have been nice. Good luck on it!

Been down sick for 3 days. Took a COVID-19 test yesterday; it came back negative. Doesn't explain why I can't taste or smell anything, though. Think I'll schedule a retest.

Appreciate the thoughts, everyone. Just rebooked both of us for testing again tomorrow, so we'll see what shakes out. We're being very careful about this as my wife had COVID last February when we still didn't really know what was going on, so neither of us wants to take any chances. The most annoying part is that the symptoms are mostly-interchangeable with colds and the 'flu, and not everyone will have the same (or any) symptoms, so it's hard to tell what it is that I'm potentially dealing with.
The loss of smell and taste is what has me most concerned, though - I've been using increasingly-insane amounts of different hot sauces on things to try to get a read on where that one sits, and so far I'm getting a lot of heat with very little to no flavour. Did manage to successfully mace myself with udon steam last night, though, so at least my eyes are working properly.
