No, that would be home PONG. The 2600 was their second "great console". ....And last "great console". Well, no the 5200 Supersystem was a breakthrough excellent console, 4-payer, analogue controls, excellent updated versions of existing titles (something Nintendo picked up upon with Mario, Zelda etc), great games (not enough games though, crash's to blame for that). Atari 7800 Pro System, MARIA, enough said. Lynx, colour hand-held, again, breakthrough system (left hand control, again, great range of games, hardly any duffs, but outsold by the lesser quality hh, the Game Boy) Atari Jaguar, very innovative English designed console, 64 bit of course (no doubt about that) So all Atari consoles are great consoles by a long shot, and not just updated NESs (SNES), but failure was due to the fact that USA sold itself to Japanese gaming, end of story. Oh yes, XE-GS, well, gotta have one bummer, although a great Atari 8-Bit computer, no less. I apologize then. I originally thought when a game system was considered great, it was not only because of its spectacular sales but also because of how popular it was with consumers. I didn't realize that the Atari Jaguar was a block bluster in terms of units sold or that most people purchased one when it came out.

In the end none of this actually mattered. Because the Sega Genesis came in and crushed the NES with its "Blast Processing" power and wonderfully addictive addons like the Sega CD and the Sega 32X ....Well maybe the first part about blast processing is correct, anyway. Haw Haw! But seriously, it was disappointing that the Top Loading NES didn't sport A/V integration like it's earlier design. Also, the dog bone controllers were all kinds of fail.

I attempted PhoneDork's method for component hookup on a Hidef television and it left something to be desired. Perhaps the component cables I purchased aren't the best quality? I am using Panasonic 42 inch 1080p LCD tv. Is there a specific kind that would work better? The picture I got was quite pixelated and not very sharp. However, when I applied the same procedure with a standard def CRT television that supported Component, the video and picture quality was quite amazing. Things were sharp and vibrant. That makes me believe that HD LCD tv's aren't equipped to handle the upscaled output from the Genesis? Any one else have any ideas or thoughts?

Hooking Systems Up to an LCD TV
MindController replied to Tempest's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I recently cleaned up my Genesis model 1, bought a Genesis to scart adapter and a scart to yuv converter and attempted to hook it up via component to my 42 inch Panasonic HDTV. The quality was good but not fantastic. So then I hooked it up to a crt television through component and the picture quality seemed better. There wasn't as much pixelation as there was with the hdtv and the image was a bit more crisp. Anyone know if the Scart to hdmi converter might yield better results instead of component?
