Unfortunately, given the number of ways that sockpuppet accounts can hide their identities, the only way to identify them is often through behavioral evidence. Several users have actually been very helpful to us in unmasking them.

We've just locked down a bunch of these accounts, so hopefully that will put a damper on their activities.

I don't buy it. If they behave like sockpuppets, report them and ban them.

If you just go around bait every other thread by trolling and taunting them, then it's you who's at fault for derailing the thread.

It just seems like vindictive "vigilante justice."

I have come across more threads like that than actual sockpuppetry. It seems so silly that I am exposed more to the vigilantes than the actual "problem" they are trying to address.
