  2. Whats the deal with the stolen server sign at PAX?

  3. I didn't notice this earlier.... Should have chimmed in, then again i've been away for awhile from here... Anyway I was hoping to get more info on the Classic Console room and why on sunday they had a sign up something about a stolen server. I probably should have went inside and asked, but was trying to do my own thing. Does anyone know anything? (on a more positive note, I'll post pictures maybe in a month, :-p Still got 1 and a half weeks of vacation to go since PAX was just a portion of my vacation)
  4. Hmmmm, there's more then one..... I took some quick shots of it and loaded them into my dropbox account (which hopefully doesn't have any more issues with not needing passwords ).... They are here
  5. I was afraid that was the direction you were going in.... I've kinda understood from the beginning it'd be a miracle to get one in a price point that I didn't have to beg the wife to spend... Based on your reputation I figured you'd probably eat the shipping too, but if it was too outrageous I didn't want to just leave you stuck with it considering this wasn't just a purely business transaction, it was a labor of love on your part... I can always dream of making one myself one day I suppose.... At any rate I can't wait to see what other goodies you come up with. Keep sharing, you do awesome work.
  6. Sorry, I'm cheap.... And it's the shipping that hurts too.... I know you said you could likely ship for less then the 30, but I was afraid you actually would end up paying more and possibly not honor the $30 because of the shipping involved (especially with my location, it happens ALL THE TIME).... Is there maybe some way you can ship them some assembly required and have the cost be less on the shipping (maybe getting them to fit in a flat rate box.... I could see how that would be a pain with something like the c64 (the stack of floppies could be a pain), but the 2600 Jr might work..... I wasn't really viewing it as paying $15, but more paying $45..... Chris
  7. I'm surprised there weren't more bids on the lamps... I didn't think I'd win with my bid, but I also thought the other guy would be outbid at the last minute...
  8. But it's not sealed is it???? Also the wording of it, makes me think maybe someone DID think there was a system in there... meh, either way, I'd never pay that much even if it was sealed.... To each their own. Chris
  9. I actually wouldn't be too worried about the alcohol damaging things... I'd be more worried that the gunk is designed to help protect things, and removing it would remove that one more thing protecting the board... Then again, anything like that that's 20 or 30 years old might actually be one of those things that is actually causing a problem rather then preventing it at this point.... It's your call, but unless you think it's going to be a problem I'd leave it for 2 reasons: 1. I'm lazy 2. There must be some reason it was done that way. If you do decide to give it a bath, alcohol and plastics have issues, so you probably don't want to submerge the board to the point of submerging the chips, but even if you do it'll probably be fine as long as you make 1,000 percent sure it's dried well before you attempt to use it again. I'm also unsure when the board will start absorbing the liquid (I was going to say if, but google pointed me to when), and weather that will be a problem... In summary, if you really want to clean it, you're probably better off scrubbing it rather then letting it soak, though I'd probably leave it. But if you do soak it, it'll probably be ok, as long as you don't let it soak too long... Chris
  10. Now that is the kind of positive posting we need more of around here! Thanks. I've mended the piece i mentioned earlier as pictured below. Now just to get it aligned and back together. You mended a worm gear???? How does one do that? Is there some kind of special glue or something??? Can you link me to a guide? Chris
  11. Not cola sadly, I'd have preferred that... Seems most of these branded soda type drinks are marketed as energy drinks and they taste like them too... The full name on the can is PAC-MAN POWER UP ENERGY DRINK Chris
  12. Yeah the one's ax makes use real controllers, and the theory for converting a famiclone one would be the basically the same.... The instructions for the conversion as I understand it are here: http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/nes_atari.html?SystemID=2600 And one of the first things you do is: " De-solder the NES lead, the two discreet resistors (R1 & R2, see below), and the 16-pin chip and discard." So if you were to convert a famiclone controller removing the chip/epoxy blob would be one of your first steps.... Chris
  13. When you do get the controller, I would advise taking it apart to see how it's wired first.... Basically if there is a chip or one of those epoxy blobs in it, it's probably one of those famiclone controllers like nathanallan said, and I wouldn't risk plugging it into an atari. There's a small possibility that it'd short out the atari if it was one of those kinds of controllers. I'd almost bet it's one of those. In fact if you have one that's what I'd try first, a famiclone. After you've confirmed it's a famiclone controller, there's nothing stopping you from hacking it to work with the atari though.... Though I think the famiclones only use 5 of the 9 pins, so that might be a bummer.
