Matra Alice 8000 ultra rare prototype, working, for sale
TPA5 replied to Majdachi's topic in Prototypes
Some more info will help you out. Pictures, what kind of price you're wanting, where you are located (even roughly), what the item actually is, some proof that you aren't just a scammer, etc. Trust me, you won't get much love with such a bare-bones post. -
thought peoples might get a giggle from this.

Ah, people never seem to understand that ratings exist for a reason. I remember playing with army men, I had a huge bucket of tans and greens, along with tanks, planes, jeeps, etc. Many, many hours were spent in the backyard placing rocks, building little fortresses, and stressing my mother out by digging around in the garden to create trenches! When I got older I was going to give them to a friend as he had a little guy that was old enough to play with them, but his wife wouldn't let me because she didn't want their kid playing with "violent" toys. I just don't get the world we live in anymore. Thanks for the link though, I hadn't heard about this at all (I don't keep up with any kind of news for anything these days). What a gong-show, I can't believe how pervasive out "outrage culture" is getting. Yikes. Pretty soon I won't be able to take a dump in my own home without someone being "offended" by it. -
Old topic, but with the fresh bump I thought I'd chuck my .02cents in. Considering the Metroid Prime series (and I know I've mentioned it before) are my favourite games of all time, I feel somewhat qualified to have an opinion here. I wasn't a big fan of Metroid: Other M. I didn't really like the gameplay, I didn't like the story, and I couldn't stand the characterization of Samus. It felt like it fell very short of the magnificence that was the Prime series, IMHO. A big part of what made the Prime series great (although more 1 and 2, not as much the 3rd one) was the feeling of loneliness and isolation. It was just you, an arm-cannon, and a whole planet full of things that wanted to eat you for dinner. You really did feel that you weren't just an explorer, but that you were also someone who had to survive against all odds on a hostile planet. The mystery of the Chozo disappearance in Prime 1 and the Dark Aether in Prime 2 provided incredibly compelling reasons to actually scan and read the lore scattered around. One of my favourite experiences in Prime 1 was scanning a Space Pirate computer and reading their internal memos about the "armoured bounty hunter" that was tearing a new one through their troops. It felt really cool because hey, I was that bounty hunter. Samus didn't need to have cheesy, overly-badass one-liners spewing from her mouth all the time. She didn't need to prance around in a low-cut top, she didn't even need to be constantly put in shit situations by Fate itself (I'm looking at you, 2013 Tomb Raider). She just followed a giant space-dragon/dinosaur hybrid through a huge thunderstorm onto a planet because she wanted to turn the it to ash, then proceeded to crush anything that got in her way as she sought to free the planet from a toxic corruption. No crummy love-interests, no support character burbling in my ear, none of the garbage modern games cling to so fiercely. Retro understood we didn't need that stuff to convince us to play the game. Just dropping us in a gawkingly beautiful environment and filling it with things that wanted to barbecue us was enough. That's all the reason we needed to explore the world. I felt that Other M removed a lot of what made me love the Prime series. Maybe if it had been the same game but with different characters I would have appreciated it more. But the way they characterized Samus, and the fact that it was such a drastic departure from the Prime series, made it very hard for me to enjoy as a huge Prime series fan.

Coleco Chameleon .... hardware speculations?
TPA5 replied to phoenixdownita's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I guess I do. Like I said to the other guy, just trying to voice my opinion not start a fight or insult folks. I just want people to focus on the positive aspects of the games industry and the people who are out there doing good stuff, not just the negative crap like this debacle. Not my intention to argue with anyone, and I apologize if my reply was rude, I shouldn't have responded emotionally mate. -

Uh, nothing in that sentence calls for locking the thread. Again, not sure where you are managing to conjure that from or why you're trying to put words in my mouth. But hey, bold-facing and underlining the text in my quote is slick. When you quote this post and try to make it sound like I love the Chameleon or something, maybe you can even try highlighting in colour! How exciting would that be? EDIT: Still, we're all gamers here so really I shouldn't be putting so much effort into arguing. You have your viewpoint, I have mine and that's okay. I don't want to sling mud or insult you, or turn this into a big argument. I really don't like arguing. I just want people to focus on the more positive aspects of the video game industry, that's all. So, sorry if I'm sounding like a dick, I really am not trying to be. -
I'm digging that CRT you have it hooked up to, looks nice a nice tidy setup on your desk! I know what you mean about playing games on the real hardware, you just can't beat it.

I'm fully allowed to express my opinion in the same way many, many others have in this thread. Just because your delicate feelings are injured by that does not make it my problem, nor does it require me to follow your demands. It's a forum based on freedom of speech, and seeing as you both are so eager to exercise your right to it you have no business denying someone else that exact right. -
"FEEDBACK JOYSTICKS" --- for retro computers!
TPA5 replied to Omega-TI's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I think the difficulty would be in the game side of it. Games today that take advantage of FF are programmed to do so, classic games were never designed with this in mind so how would the FF device know what feedback to apply? -

I think with the advent of instant communication and easy content-creation, situations like this blow up much bigger than they did "back in the day" so to speak. People love bullshit drama for some reason, hence why hundreds of needless replies are being added to this thread after the project has been legally declared dead, buried, and the widow has re-married. Instead of people just saying "alright, that was a shit-show but it's over now so let's talk about something else" it just turns into a huge circle-jerk where the same points are re-iterated ad nauseam. People running the project made bad decisions and lied, other people outside the project helped spread those lies (perhaps consciously perhaps not), and ultimately it was all unveiled as a sham. Like the stinking corpse of an unwanted pet, let's bury it and move on. I fail to see how continuing this thread discussing the same points over and over will actually produce any kind of positive result in the community. -

Was it posted on April 1st? I have to believe it's some kind of troll/joke. -

I can't wait until someone turns this thing into a documentary. Hell, turn it into a reality show! There's more drama here than Real Housewives, Big Brother, and the Kardashians combined. He said, she said, rumours, accusations, speculations, podcasts, blog posts, forum topics, detective work, investigations, Facebook posts, YouTube videos, feuds, beefs, more rumours, more speculations, money lost, money gained, oh my! It's the never-was project that will now seemingly never-die, kept alive through healthy circular discussions for all time. -
It's not a national thrift chain, so I'm guessing management does not care at all. Having talked to someone that volunteered there, apparently even the store manager has been known to grab stuff.

I hunger for a Metroid Prime series HD remake. I know there was a bit of one back when Corruption came out, but I really want a full 1080p remake in all its high def glory.

Oh please, this is so incredibly mild compared to many other games out there. This is the kind of thing that bothers shaky-kneed liberals who watch the Notebook once a week so they can have a good cry. It's a videogame with a fake plastic zapper, you're not loading up a .357 and trying your luck. Hell, play Mortal Kombat X for a little bit and watch some of those fatalities, that's some twisted shit. If we are at a place where we're so nervous and freaked out about guns that a good-natured party game for adults has to be looked at with concern, that's really sad. Not to rant or anything, but it just frustrates me to see people weirded out by such a goofy, fun concept. You know though, this could be a great drinking game. If you get blasted, take a drink! How's that for irresponsible adult fun? I'm just bummed I missed out on this.

CUP Podcast: Box of 6 NEW Stadium Events Confirmed
TPA5 replied to GoldenWheels's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Cool find, but I can't stand watching these guys. Specifically that long-haired dude, come on man cut your damn hair and shave that nasty beard off your face. Try at least to look your age. Maybe I'm just grumpy. -
It's pretty disgusting, I don't know why they would have the policy that if you volunteer there you get first dibs. It just encourages that horrible behaviour. Definitely puts my minor grousing about not finding any good electronics in perspective, when there are people there who just want to put their kid in some decent clothes so they can be warm when they go to school. Like you said in your other post, we aren't 'owed' anything. The stuff we do is for entertainment, not basic survival!

They are fricking cancerous where I live. There's one thrift not terribly far from me, then the next thrift options are an hour away so I don't ever really go to them unless I happen to be in that area. However the one that is close enough that I pop in a few times a month usually has nothing of value. Certainly no gaming stuff, sometimes some okay PC finds, but they have this buggery habit of writing prices right on the damn boxes in permanent marker. Come on people, you can afford some tags. Unfortunately there's so many cheap-ass, greedy f&%ing people around here what ends up happening is they basically squat at these stores and grab anything and everything decent then go re-sell it. Some of them even "volunteer" a few hours a week just so they can have first dibs! It's such aggravating bullshit. Then the stuff that does actually make it to the shelf ends up being priced stupid, I've seen 15" shitty CRT computer monitors be stickered at $25! What a load of garbage. What truly pisses me off about this is that we have a lot of people immigrating from the Philippines and moving into the general area where I live. Now these people are really great, the best kind of immigrant. They work hard, are very friendly, respect the law, and do their best to join this culture as opposed to demanding we make endless concessions for them. Being that they're immigrants, they generally shop at the thrift for things like clothes and shoes so they can outfit their families for really good prices. Especially with the winters here being brutally cold, and the winters in the Philippines being hot it's vital for them to be able to buy cold-weather clothes for less. Otherwise a single winter jacket can cost upwards of $75 for a kids size, and that's not even for a "nice" jacket, just a "decent" one. When you have 3-4 kids, having to buy winter pants, boots, socks, and jackets adds up hella fast. This is what thrift stores really are designed to do, give people who don't have much the chance to clothe their kids in good stuff for less. But these stupid, selfish, parasitic resellers come in and snap up all the decent clothes/shoes at rock-bottom prices, then waltz out the front door and sell them for huge mark-ups on Kijiji (it's like a Canadian Craigslist) and the like. The very people who don't need these things are taking them away from the people who do. People that can't come in at 2pm on a Wednesday because they're bloody working a job to make ends meet. But nooo, these "re-sellers" (more like gorramn thieves) don't have a job so they lounge around on their fat asses waiting for the good stuff to come out so they can hoover it up. It fricken drives me nuts, man. Anyway that's my rant. Of course those awful "pickers" shows haven't done much to help that as you end up getting these jack-offs coming in and over-paying for useless lamps and shit because "oh man it might just be worth something for the antique store I'm starting in my garage!" which just gives the thrift license to up-charge everything.

I would personally love to see an unedited version, stuff like this is 100% my jam. Thanks for sharing!

That is a pretty unique frontend, I don't think there are any others like that one. As far as I know it was pretty stable when work ended on it, so while it may not be the most visually stunning anymore it doesn't look too bad in my humble opinion. You can access a website with info here: http://3darcade.mameworld.info/ There are still 3D cabs being occasionally released for it, and the forum has some activity and info on it. I remember hearing some discussion about trying to port or re-create this frontend on the Unity platform, but I'm pretty sure the project died.

That would be a pretty awesome tool, to be able to rip sprites from old games and replace them could be neat to, like you said, do an "overhaul" mod.

I'm digging it, clean example of a 2600!

Hope I didn't make it sound like I was dissing you or anything, I just find Silverlight in general to be very mediocre on my computer. But that's not the point, the point is you have a very rad office! I dig it, and I wish I had something even half as awesome in my house (hidden behind a bookcase-door, of course!)
