I have never pre-ordered a videogame before, but I am sorely tempted to do it for the Alpha Vector Ship.

I have not been this excited for a new-release game since Skyrim back in 2011. For those who may not know yet: Honestly if this game lives up to even half the hype, it's going to be the game I've dreamed of playing ever since I was a little kid wanting to go to space. The idea of exploring an infinite galaxy with infinite possibilities seems pretty awesome, and while the cynical part of me says it won't live up to the hype, the hopeful kid part of me is just so damn eager to play this game in June. Looks beautiful and best of all the system specs seem quite reasonable. I'm hoping it ends up playing as good as it looks, because I am quite excited to get lost in the universe for awhile.

To be honest VR doesn't really make my pants tight. I get the point behind it, but it just isn't something I care about. Only reason I would want one is to play driving/flying games so I can look around without a mouse, and I can get the same effect with a TrackIR or even a DIY solution.

Hey all, I am getting ready to put together a DIY SIO2PC for my Atari 400, but I have a question. I grabbed female-female connectors from eBay to fit the pins on the FTDI, but they don't fit on the SIO pins on my Atari. What size of connector do I need to fit on the SIO pins so I can wire it to the FTDI? Thanks!

Wondering what some of the prices are going to look like? I live in Manitoba but maybe if one of my Canadian brethren was going to pick some things up from you, perhaps they'd be willing to get an item or two for me and ship it to Manitoba (naturally with money sent to them for the item and shipping in advance). Primarily interested in Atari 8-bit stuff like software and the like, things that hopefully wouldn't be too difficult to ship. Canada only has about 36 million people, and in the era of these computers the population was in the low to mid 20-millions which already puts collectors at a disadvantage. There simply was not the same interest in a lot of Canada outside of the major city-centres for computers, so it makes it that much harder now in 2016 to find these kinds of things. Especially since I live in a more rural area of Canada, and even the nearest "big city" is still pretty small so there's very little to go around. To see vintage computer gear on the classifieds where I live is an extremely rare occurrence.

That guy is awesome, he's like a Canadian treasure. I remember subscribing to him years ago because he deserves it. More people should find something to be that passionate about. Instead, most people find their passion swimming in the vast lagoon of drama that is the internet.

Creaky hinges were a bit of an issue as these units aged, both the Portfolios I have owned creaked on opening and closing. Fantastic little systems though, someone should definitely pick this up. I actually should get an owners manual for mine as that's one of the few things I am missing.

Instead of the quick reply, click "More Reply Options" at the bottom of the quick-reply window. Once the new page opens, just below the window where you type your message in you'll see an option to attach files. Just browse to your picture, and once you select it then click "Attach This File". Repeat for each one of your photos and you'll have attached them to your forum post!

The past couple years I have found myself interested in Amiga computers, and I've been debating getting one. I'd be interested in using it for, of course, games and even doing some things like word-processing on it. I know I could use emulation, but I just prefer using real iron especially when it comes to classic PC's. So I've been looking into Amiga's, and I am not quite sure which one I should be looking at. The 500 seems to have been the most popular, and many people on different forums recommend/run them. However the 1200 also seems to be talked about a lot, so I am not sure which way to go. I'd prefer not to end up spending many hundreds of dollars on it since (aren't we all) I am on a budget. Being up in Canada means I am generally screwed for price no matter what I do since our dollar is piss-poor (a cautionary tale about an economy based primarily around a single commodity) and when packages cross that magical invisible line from the US to Canada it means shipping increases by 75%. Still, I'd love to get into the Amiga scene for not too many dollars. Any recommendations?

Figured I would chime in to this thread. Had one of these back when I was a kid, and to be honest I loved it. Then again I was a kid so I wasn't too discerning, but it was a lot of fun. I remember the only games I had were the Lights Out one and the Batman game. Still I managed to pour hours into the system somehow, and I spent even more hours looking at the little catalogue of games that came with it and imagining how awesome it would be to play them. I never got the chance really, but someday I'd like to add the Game.Com to my collection again, just for the memories. I know a lot of people in this thread are (I feel) unreasonably hard on the machine, at least if nothing else it is a part of the collective gaming history. One reply I saw in this thread mentioned that the Game.Coms should simply be destroyed. I find this particularly onerous as we simply shouldn't pick and choose what history is preserved, all history should be preserved. Alas, I digress. I enjoyed this once upon a time, and while I'm sure if I tried it today I would see its flaws I still wouldn't mind adding it to my shelf.

Argh this is tempting, but I figure whatever price is decided on will be too much for my meagre Canadian dollars. I had a Game.com as a kid, and foolishly got rid of it somewhere along the line. Now I wish I had kept it! This is a really great collection of games, I'm sure someone will want it!

I don't want to sound negative, but the task of licensing something like this from Time Warner would be an impossibly large undertaking for a small team. Especially considering how bullish TW is with copyrights, it would be an agonizing uphill battle the entire way and a headache that would probably not be worth it. Maybe if you changed the name and the graphics and made it more of an homage as opposed to "recreation" and released it for free you could pull it off, but I am just not sure about licensing it.

I am constantly amazed at how much more intelligent than me other people are. Very cool though, I'm interested to see how it looks as it continues development! Some of it almost feels like you're playing a diorama, which is pretty sweet. Hopefully he releases a downloadable version, the web one is pretty terrible to use.

Why would you want to actually sit in the same room with your friends and experience human interaction, when you could spend countless hours gaming with faceless voices on the other end of an internet connection alone in a room? It isn't exactly as if you need social skills or anything these days.

Without a doubt for me, Mario Party. My friend had some weird voodoo-magic with that game, no matter how well any of us would do in the game he would somehow end up winning to the point of it being creepy. In the countless times we've played any of those games over the years, he has managed to win every single time. I remember a couple years ago I was in the lead with 11 stars, and the last blessed turn he managed to hit the one space that gave him a chance to swap stars, and the game randomly chose me. It was so utterly bizarre and frustrating that none of us ever played the game again. How he ended up winning every time was just too weird.

I've been debating picking up a 2DS actually. I have a DS Lite which is pretty great, I use it mostly to play Advance and GB/GB Colour games. 3D makes me feel sick, especially on a smaller screen so I don't need a unit that can do it. Mostly because I don't play it too much and I can get one for really cheap, and I actually like the form-factor of the 2DS.

I also want an Altair 8800. Don't know what the heck I'd do with one... but I want it.

So much negativity I highly doubt these sort of packs are really aimed at enthusiasts. Honestly, if you are an enthusiast you most likely have the original game (provided it isn't an arcade cab, and even then some do) or you emulate it in some form or another. So there isn't much to complain about if this release sucks. If it's predatory greed that bothers you, the idea that some company lazily slaps it together and charges people for it, then you should find yourself bothered by a great deal of other things as well. Greed is greed, and believe me there are much worse ways people are making money as we speak. If you don't like the idea that people may purchase this and think that these games played this way back in the day, you probably shouldn't get worked up about that either. Why? Because you can't change it. If a few thousand people end up thinking "This is how it must have been back in the day", why lose sleep? It's not as if this could single-handedly crumble the retro-gaming hobby around our ears. I know it's hard to be passionate about something and not let these things get to you, but it isn't worth getting worked into a lather over. It's all just fun and games at the end of the day.
