  1. While I agree PC is king for emulation, sometimes you get tired of tweaking and just want to sit back and play classic games. My problem is I can't seem to stop tweaking and enjoy the games. I spend vastly more time setting crap up then I actually do playing the games.
  2. I've been thinking about grabbing a used Wii on the cheap for emulation duties. I'm getting kind of sick of futzing around constantly with emulation PC's hooked up to my TV and the like. Plus I could use it as a device to play Netflix on as well so that's 2 birds with one stone.
  3. Looks interesting, being able to switch to a sort of mouse-mode would make playing classic PC games feasible on it. The keyboard looks miserable to use, so their claims that you could do office work on it are kind of bogus. But who cares, it's not really designed for that. For emulators and classic games, it actually looks pretty rad. Don't know if I'd plunk 300 bones down without even seeing some videos of a physical product, but at least GPD is an established company, not some fly-by-night operation.
  4. As with anything, rumours abound in the pre-release hype. That being said I would imagine a Mario game being a given release title, with a Zelda title being a possibility given how much they talked about it, then went silent. I'm just holding out for a good Metroid game (not that Other M refuse they tried to sell me). Something that harkens back to the stunning masterpiece that was the Metroid Prime series.
  5. Seems gimmicky to me. Maybe if you're into sims, but at that point a headset would make more sense. If you have an Android phone you can make your own Oculus-esque experience for cheap.
  6. Price? Pictures? What sorts of items are you looking for trade?
  7. That's my experience as well with stores where I live. I have to drive an hour just to get to the city large enough to have those stores, and they just carry over-priced nonsense. Unfortunately I'm in a "damned if I do, damned if I don't" situation because eBay prices have also gotten insane, partly owing to the crummy Canadian dollar right now.
  8. I can report that it is really the easiest FE setup I have experienced. Simply pick which emulators you want to use, set the folder for the roms and (if you care) the snaps, and really that's about it. There are a couple other settings you can tweak and adjust but nothing that would take very long. Very snappy front-end, even on the old Celeron machine I'm using with on-board video it clips through the lists smoothly. The only thing that is frustrating, and it really isn't the fault of the program, it won't let me change the bindings for the controller I have connected to browse the menu. However it's technically a bluetooth controller for a smartphone or tablet with no official windows support so it isn't too surprising it doesn't want to work.
  9. That is a surprisingly clever move for such a shit game.
  10. I've told myself that if I found a used one for a great price I'd pick up a Wii U. There's a few games I'd like to play (primarily the Wind Waker HD), and I'd slap a homebrew channel on it so I could play some classic games as well.
  11. I like that solution a lot, especially since I can install it myself. Hopefully some pricing info is announced soon.
  12. I know this is an older post already, but maybe this will help: http://www.mgalaxy.com/index.html Still does snaps so not sure if you want that, but as a front-end it's quite user-friendly to setup and it doesn't have a billion options that do nothing but increase headaches. I haven't gotten too terribly involved in it yet, just started poking at it myself but I think I'm going to test this out as I'm looking for a front-end that uses less resources than Maximus Arcade for a low-powered build. It isn't the most active front-end in terms of community and development, but I am of the opinion that when a product works, the need for constant updates is really not necessary. Unfortunately no matter how you slice it, there is always some config work to be done with a front-end and I always assume that it's going to be a few hours of setup no matter what I choose.
  13. That looks stunning, I would love to have my 'Cube fitted with that mod. Unfortunately it's $320(!!!!) Canadian dollars
  14. Do you feel my pretend-shock was pretty authentic? I even included a .gif for legit-ness.
  15. This sort of thing always makes me wonder how many unfinished games are buried away in archives, wasting away. I'd love if more companies would release these protos and scrapped projects, just for the preservation of history. (Unrelated, but 700 posts what-what. Probably not a single one worth reading, but still.)
  16. Wait, so a modern game is a broken mess? I am so surprised.
  17. Good info! I'll freely admit that when capturing gameplay with my friend I use emulation. Sure it may not be the same, but it is worlds easier for old consoles ('specially handhelds) than trying to futz around with a bunch of other nonsense. Awesome tip about capturing footage from iOS using Quicktime though, I never knew about that!
  18. As with many things (and as others have stated) it boils down more to perceived value and demand as opposed to actual value. Plus the brand-name nature of it comes into play as well, it's the same reason many Mario and Zelda games still command high prices on eBay even if there are a zillion copies in the wild.
  19. I think it's a cool idea, but to be honest I'm going to be in the LCD camp. It does go against the originals yes, but there isn't enough of a market to capture peoples interest for a VFD unit. A really well-done machine with solid buttons, a crisp LCD and snappy emulation would be something I'd love to buy and plop on my desk at work.
  20. Funnily enough I find that my consumption of hops and barely correlates in an upward curve with my skill at games. Ninja Gaiden too hard? Toss back a few frothy brews and suddenly you feel a heck of a lot better about your gaming chops. It's amazing to me how much we can continue to squeeze out of these old consoles. New technology keeps pushing old tech to greater heights, I think that's pretty awesome. Now if only I could get sharp, crisp HDMI out of my Gamecube easily I would be a happy fellow.
  21. eBay certainly does seem to be inundated with crap sellers these days, shockingly even ones with apparently positive reviews can end up being a nightmare to deal with. Hope everything gets cleared up soon.

    Open Pandora

What drew you to this system as opposed to one of those Android-based handheld emulation units? I know there is a lot of crap, but there's some decent offerings for less than what those Pandora's cost (although maybe you got it for less than what I've seen). Not that I'm dumping on your decision, just curious is all.
  23. Glad to hear it's working for you! Even though the interface is starting to look a little dated at this point and it isn't as "new" as it could be, Maximus Arcade is still a great front-end in my opinion. I've used it as my go-to for several years now, and every time I'm tempted to try a different one I always end up back with it. I'd love to see some pictures of your build!
