  1. Finally got myself a Switch, and I've been playing a (borrowed) copy of BOTW for about 2-1/2 hours. (That game kicks so much ass.) I'm already planning on getting Mario Odyssey and Skyrim at some point, but there's also so many indie titles on the eShop it's a lot of take in. I'm curious which games (major releases or indies) you all are playing that are fun. I enjoy adventure games (like BOTW), and I don't mind things like platformers (but they have to be very well-done to engage me). Puzzle games are okay, but I'm an idiot so I often struggle with them.
  2. Steam has a powerful amount of shovelware, too. It's an 'issue' nearly as old as gaming itself. Personally, I don't think it's a problem.
  3. For the audio, (and maybe you already checked this out) but there's a thread with some great troubleshooting tips here: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=166700 As for the monitor, not much to do about that except either bite the bullet and go for the OG panel or get a "close enough" panel. Depends on your budget, but if it was me I would likely go for the "good enough" PC panel. If you're feeling frisky, you could also throw a cheap VGA scanline genny into it for 'dat retro cred: https://paradisearcadeshop.com/scan-line-generators/1253-mini-slg.html Any pictures of the cab?
  4. "I have this proto for some game (can't read the name). Here's a blurry photo. $500." But yeah folks, a good listing goes a long way.
  5. Companies and governments don't want to just make "a lot" of money. They don't even want to make "a ton" of money. They want to make all the money there is to be made, until there is nothing left. They want to crush the people under their boot, and wring every last dime from the corpses. Greed is a magical force that jumps party lines and infects people like a cancer. And that's what this whole thing boils down to. Meaningless numbers in a bank account.
  6. Pixels? ...Pixels? Actually, Pixels? Man, that movie was heinous. It is the definition of 'suck'. This movie is just a monster movie, and there's nothing wrong with that. The technology has changed, but the core of this movie isn't a whole lot different than the Godzilla movies of yore. And as an actor Dwayne Johnson is one of the few Hollyw$$d stars I can stomach watching. I'll probs see this one when it hits rental. Maybe in theaters, if I have the inclination.
  7. I've never been one to keep my finger on the pulse of society, so it was only recently I learned of the push-back against Wind Waker when it was released. To me, Wind Waker is the best 3D Zelda game ever made. Sure, the sailing sucks. But there's aspects of every Zelda game that kinda blow. Rarely do they cripple the over-all experience. I never finished Twilight Princess, mostly because I just found it to be a bore. But for my all-time favourite Zelda game, Oracle Of Seasons wins that hands-down.
  8. 40c is still stinking hot. 22c or so is considered room-temp.
  9. 65gb without the 4k textures, 98gb with the 4k textures. Still hefty, but 65gb is about standard for triple-A PC games these days.
  10. Looks slick, I'd agree with you on moving the coin select buttons to the front center of the box. It would look sweet! Are the coin select buttons lit? I'm working on a slim stand-up cab and those would be awesome for adding credits in MAME.
  11. Are you going to have this on a coffee table, or on some kind of pedestal cab? Just curious. It's looking good; if you can reduce the height I'd say go for it. Slimmer is better
  12. 1: Windows is a fine OS. There are ways to hide the bootscreens and whatnot, just do a little web searching and it should avail you. I've heard good things about GameEx. Hyperspin is good, but hard to setup. Maximus Arcade is alright, but isn't updated anymore. 2: Just go for an LCD monitor. CRT's are a pain in the ass the mount and deal with, especially for a casual MAME cab. Nothing really specific to look for as far as flat panels go, just get one that looks pleasing to you and is the right size. 3: Depends on the games you want to play. There's no "right" answer. If you're more interested in horizontal games, there's your answer. Same for vertical. Not sure about multiple screens in MAME. Some folks run a horizontal monitor, then just play verticals on it. Doesn't work as well, to be fair. Just think about the kinds of games you want to play the most. Like Cynicaster said, you can set up MAME to have artwork displayed in the black borders of the screen. Looks fine in my humble opinion. Or, the black borders might not even bother you. Most important thing is to decide what games you want to play most, and set it up for that. Because arcade cabs were so unique, trying to design a MAME cab that can "play em all" is an exercise in frustration. Instead, decide what you want to play the most and design the cab for that. You'll be happier you did.
  13. That board looks pretty sweet, will definitely run it better than a RasPi! Especially with that much ram and an SSD.
  14. I think you can buy it in sheets (like a film) or in a spray can. You mentioned looking for a low powered PC for the machine, what about a Raspberry Pi? They can run a lot of the arcade games through to the 90s, and lots of console games. Super low power consumption, and a nice price point. I have an arcade cab build on the (slow) go right now, seeing this gets me motivated to work on it. Any pics of the inside? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. You know what, you did make a point. I didn't have to resort to a personal jab in my earlier post, and that was an inappropriate. If I expect others to be mature, I need to respond in a mature manner myself. My apologies for the personal jab; I stand by my opinions but freely admit that insulting someone isn't the way to go about a disagreement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Why is what I think so offensive to you? I didn't see you saying anything to iceman when he belittled Tanooki in the other SNES Classic thread. He's the resident authority on belittling. So, does it only count as being a jerk if it regards something you also do? Do whatever the fuck you want man. What you think of me, doesn't matter to me or offend me. And really, what I think shouldn't matter to you. Buy 'em up, sell 'em off, make $200. But I can disagree with it, just like you disagree with the fact that I disagree with it. The whole world isn't your safe space where you're immune to interacting with people who don't like what you do.
  17. The real victims here are his kids, who got dragged all over the goddamn place so daddy can make a piddly amount of profit. It's one thing to be a scalper. It's another to keep bringing it up, so that people get upset, so that you can defend yourself and talk about how you're just a poor soul trying to cut a living. The self-righteousness is nauseating. Of course, it's always someone else's fault.
  18. Currently, it seems to be so that the 2 most vocal scalpers here can post holier-than-thou bullshit about how they, I dunno, are doing a public service somehow. Because hey man, it's only a shitty tactic if you make decent money at it. Yeah, keep masturbating yourself to the possibility of being correct about something utterly pointless in the long run. (That's assuming you haven't had a little tantrum and placed me on your oh-so-special ignore list yet) I put in an order at Best Buy, since I'll be fucked if I'm going to stand in the cold for a piece of plastic. Cool plastic, but plastic nonetheless.
  19. I'm digging it. Have you considered doing a tint on the plexi so it hides the wires when they aren't lit up? I only mention it because of the way the EL wire is made, it looks almost like a shakily-painted line. I'm sure when it's lit up it looks great though.
  20. Man, would be frustrating to have paid $300+ for a NES Mini, then see this.
  21. It sounds weird, but whenever I see a game (especially indie) that's so widely touted (hyped) as being excellent I always have a feeling that I'll hate it. Like Undertale for instance. So many people rushed to slobber on that particular knob, and I utterly detested the game.
  22. Makes sense to me that Steam doesn't want to be handing out bandwidth and hosting costs for (essentially) free in these cases. And I say that as someone who finds Steam onerous at best. I buy most of my PC games through GOG anyway, since I find little interest in most modern-release games.
