DraCola Dash: My new, free iOS game in time for Halloween!
TPA5 replied to DaveD's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I can't seem to find it on the App Store, is it down for now or is it because I'm on the Canadian store? -
Please delete new thread starting tonight
TPA5 replied to Chris Leach's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I can't see any of the pictures, either. I click on the links but nothing comes up. -
Oh damn, PM'ing you.

It's like this thread exists in a completely different universe.

I've been purchasing various stuff on eBay for about 5 years (or so), and I honestly have never had a bad experience. It's a bummer to see you guys having to deal with such nutcases though. It just makes me mad to see people acting that way.

Sometimes if the 72-pin connector is bad enough, even bending the pins and cleaning it may not be enough. Check the power supply as well, a friend of mine ended up replacing the power supply on his NES and that solved his flashing screen problem.

Got a Retro-Bit NES Clone system from him for free! Heck of a guy, kept in contact to make sure everything went smooth the entire way through. Definitely recommended!

That's great info to know, thanks much Jeff. I think for the extra scratch I'll end up going with the MMC instead, that fits with what I would want to use it for better.

Hey Oldbit, thanks for the info! What are the main differences between the Pocket Mini and the Micromite? I was just wondering because I was actually getting ready to order a Pocket Mini, but now the Micromite is out. I did notice the Micromite is roughly 20 bucks more than the Pocket Mini. I also noticed the Pocket Mini is on backorder on Tindie, are you no longer producing it? The MMC does look really nifty! Thanks!

In my instance I've simply grown weary of throwing money at the wall to see what sticks. I feel like the culture of gaming has overtaken the actual games themselves. Plus, the marketing budgets of games has surpassed the GDP of some countries, which means I can never tell if a game will be decent or not because the companies are more interested in showing cinematics than game play. Destiny comes to mind with all its fancy live-action trailers and punchy marketing campaign, and ultimately it was a lukewarm game. I am in my 20's, and am married, but I don't know if that would be the reason I'm moving back to more "classic" games, I just find myself uninterested by many modern games. I still pick up the occasional game from a smaller studio like Euro Truck Simulator or Elite Dangerous, but I find my primary library on the computer is comprised of games from GOG, and console gaming is older handhelds, and the PS1, Gamecube, etc. All my Xbox 360 does these days is play Netflix. Now, I should qualify that I'm not an elitist that looks down on people that play mainstream titles. It's more a personal preference, and I'm really happy to see all the awesome responses that this thread has received. I love hearing other opinions, and that everyone here has expressed them in such a friendly manner shows how great this forum and the people on it really are.

In that case, I hope you get your money back from these jerks! Any way you could report them to their local PD for running a fraudulent business?
-
Sorry to hear that, mate! Getting burned always sucks, no matter the amount of money it's for. With a money order there's really no way to retrieve that money, is there? I know with a credit card you can dispute the payment as fraudulent and usually get your money back.

Okay, first of all yes. Secondly, yes. Freaking yes. These sound great, video game covers are among my favorites, especially when done in a style that you don't hear often! I love it, looks like I have some new music to listen to at work. And I gotta say, your avatar is just too badass. That is the hardest I have ever seen a banjo rocked. Subscribed!

If you're careful about which specific handheld you buy, JXD actually has some surprisingly solid products. If you're into emulating on the go, or playing Android games on the go, it's not a bad unit at all. On the other hand, it is slightly odd that you create an account just to tell us how great the 7800 is

The REAL cost of modern Video Games
TPA5 replied to stevenhowlett's topic in Modern Console Discussion
This times one million. It's not about passing savings onto the consumer, it's about squeezing every last withered, bleeding cent from the consumer. -
Thanks to very helpful suggestions from a thread I posted in the Classic Gaming section, I now have a preliminary want to buy list for my Gameboy Color! The items highlighted in red are ones I am very interested in. I live in Canada, so keep that in mind when considering shipping costs. I am okay with loose carts being shipped in bubble mailers. Also, I'm not picky about having CIB copies, carts only are fine with me. Here's the list: Blades of Steel '99 Commander Keen Donkey Kong Country Dragon Warrior III Harvest Moon 2 Harvest Moon 3 Kirby's Dreamland 2 Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons Lufia: The Legend Returns Marble Madness Mario Golf Metal Gear Solid Metroid II Montezuma's Revenge Pokemon Gold Pokemon Silver Resident Evil: Gaiden Super Mario Bros. Deluxe Tomb Raider Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Wario Land 3 Wario Land II DX Wendy: Every Witch Way Thanks for taking the time to look!

Teens React To NES... Very Funny...

RDI Halcyon complete collection sells for $10K
TPA5 replied to Blazing Lazers's topic in Auction Central
First time I've ever seen an item on eBay correctly labeled "rare". Congrats to the winner, that's a heck of a system, I'd love to see one in person. -
Does Ridiculous Shipping Make You Click Elsewhere?
TPA5 replied to Omega-TI's topic in Auction Central
Living in Canada, I find the shipping is wildly over-inflated 8 times out of 10. I don't even bother looking at the item, I just keep on scrolling. -
Would you send any of this to Canada?
-
Yes, you are correct. Sorry my bad, I was typing too fast earlier and wasn't paying attention.
-
The thrift store that's local to me rarely has electronics, sadly. Besides a couple joysticks and a pile of unused floppy disks, I can't find things like Walkmans or even cassette players.
-
I have one, actually. I just like playing GBC games on an actual unit. Yeah, I'm weird I know, it's a geek thing I guess.

These are awesome suggestions guys, I'm pumped to start picking these up and digging into them! Thanks so much for the awesome responses, this is helping me build my purchase list. (Although, I doubt my wife would as thankful to your suggestions!) The only thing I am debating now is if I want to try and add a backlight to this system, or should I just grab an old-fashioned wormlight? Part of me likes the idea of a slick backlight, but I don't know if I really want to pull the unit apart to install it.
