  1. Sometimes if the 72-pin connector is bad enough, even bending the pins and cleaning it may not be enough. Check the power supply as well, a friend of mine ended up replacing the power supply on his NES and that solved his flashing screen problem.

  2. How cool to see our PEB board posted on the Atari Classic Forums!

I "JUST" completed a second version of this board, called the Micromite Companion.

Here's a couple videos that are a Tour of the Project

and of course... you can get them here.

Hey Oldbit, thanks for the info!

What are the main differences between the Pocket Mini and the Micromite? I was just wondering because I was actually getting ready to order a Pocket Mini, but now the Micromite is out. I did notice the Micromite is roughly 20 bucks more than the Pocket Mini. I also noticed the Pocket Mini is on backorder on Tindie, are you no longer producing it?

The MMC does look really nifty!

    Thanks!

  3. In my instance I've simply grown weary of throwing money at the wall to see what sticks. I feel like the culture of gaming has overtaken the actual games themselves. Plus, the marketing budgets of games has surpassed the GDP of some countries, which means I can never tell if a game will be decent or not because the companies are more interested in showing cinematics than game play. Destiny comes to mind with all its fancy live-action trailers and punchy marketing campaign, and ultimately it was a lukewarm game. I am in my 20's, and am married, but I don't know if that would be the reason I'm moving back to more "classic" games, I just find myself uninterested by many modern games. I still pick up the occasional game from a smaller studio like Euro Truck Simulator or Elite Dangerous, but I find my primary library on the computer is comprised of games from GOG, and console gaming is older handhelds, and the PS1, Gamecube, etc. All my Xbox 360 does these days is play Netflix.

Now, I should qualify that I'm not an elitist that looks down on people that play mainstream titles. It's more a personal preference, and I'm really happy to see all the awesome responses that this thread has received. I love hearing other opinions, and that everyone here has expressed them in such a friendly manner shows how great this forum and the people on it really are.

  4. Okay, first of all yes.

    Secondly, yes. Freaking yes.

These sound great, video game covers are among my favorites, especially when done in a style that you don't hear often! I love it, looks like I have some new music to listen to at work.

And I gotta say, your avatar is just too badass. That is the hardest I have ever seen a banjo rocked. Subscribed!

  5. If you're careful about which specific handheld you buy, JXD actually has some surprisingly solid products. If you're into emulating on the go, or playing Android games on the go, it's not a bad unit at all.

On the other hand, it is slightly odd that you create an account just to tell us how great the 7800 is ;)

Nah, they'd still charge you the same and complain about how to charge even more (with DLC etc) and pocket that extra. Savings to them doesn't mean savings to the consumer - not if they can help it.

This times one million. It's not about passing savings onto the consumer, it's about squeezing every last withered, bleeding cent from the consumer.

  7. Thanks to very helpful suggestions from a thread I posted in the Classic Gaming section, I now have a preliminary want to buy list for my Gameboy Color! The items highlighted in red are ones I am very interested in. I live in Canada, so keep that in mind when considering shipping costs. I am okay with loose carts being shipped in bubble mailers. Also, I'm not picky about having CIB copies, carts only are fine with me.

    Here's the list:

    • Blades of Steel '99
    • Commander Keen
    • Donkey Kong Country
    • Dragon Warrior III
    • Harvest Moon 2
    • Harvest Moon 3
    • Kirby's Dreamland 2
    • Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX
    • Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
    • Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
    • Lufia: The Legend Returns
    • Marble Madness
    • Mario Golf
    • Metal Gear Solid
    • Metroid II
    • Montezuma's Revenge
    • Pokemon Gold
    • Pokemon Silver
    • Resident Evil: Gaiden
    • Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
    • Tomb Raider
    • Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword
    • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
    • Wario Land 3
    • Wario Land II DX
    • Wendy: Every Witch Way

Thanks for taking the time to look!

  8. I look for them at thrift stores and goodwill time to time for cheap Walkmans, Like $2

I have like 2 Sports ones from Sony

The thrift store that's local to me rarely has electronics, sadly. Besides a couple joysticks and a pile of unused floppy disks, I can't find things like Walkmans or even cassette players.

  9. These are awesome suggestions guys, I'm pumped to start picking these up and digging into them! Thanks so much for the awesome responses, this is helping me build my purchase list. (Although, I doubt my wife would as thankful to your suggestions!)

The only thing I am debating now is if I want to try and add a backlight to this system, or should I just grab an old-fashioned wormlight? Part of me likes the idea of a slick backlight, but I don't know if I really want to pull the unit apart to install it.

  10. Hey guys,

So I just got a GB Color in the mail, thank to FujiSkunk, and now it's time to start looking at some games for it. I never had a GB Color growing up, so I'm not as aware of the games for that system beyond the Oracle series for Legend of Zelda, and of course Link's Awakening DX. Beyond that, I'm wondering what games you all recommend? I'm not looking for "collector" games, I'm looking for games that are just fun to play. Having boxes/manuals/etc is not a concern really.

    Thanks folks!
