  1. Excellent thread-- thanks for the enthusiasm! I'm trying to decide which I wish to focus on: the 7800 or the 5200 for collecting. After hearing you all talking about the 7800 i think I'm going to go that way for starters. (I have lots of systems in totes from early 90s garage sales that I'm just now getting ready to clean up and fully catalog!)

  2. Agree with sh3, the Atari 2600 requires a lot of CPU to emulate, it is a very unique system. I have very little 68k experience, but in college I was into Playstation coding and some friends and I worked on an Atari 2600 emu. Even with a professional PSX dever writing some code in pure ASM we couldn't get anything near respectable performance out of it. The problem wasn't CPU emulation it was emulating the way video was drawn. It was a fun project and I learned a lot, but we abandoned the project.

While there is novelty in having a Jaguar cart full of Atari 2600 games, one would be better off using an actual 2600 with a *good* controller :)

What would be cool is an Atari 7800 Expansion module for the Jag. Would love to have a 7800 running a 2600 game on top of a Jag :-)
