  1. I have a love/hate relationship with these books. I've purchased several of them and love the idea and the look of them. However, I agree that the writing isn't always the best. Issues sometimes extend beyond spelling and grammar. Sometimes his information is wrong and other times it seems as if he only played a game for a very short period of time (or read wikipedia as some lines are taken nearly verbatim) in order to write something about it. However, I do think that his skills have improved over time and the books, especially the monthly magazines, have a certain charm to them. I like the brevity of each topic and it's easy to pick up and put down (because you get to a natural stopping point) when I only have a few minutes. Here are a couple of examples from the Unauthorized Sports Almanac... Grand Prix - "the computer controlled cars are mostly random". FALSE: They are same every time. Memorizing the best path is the best way to a quicker time. Home Run - It's difficult to take a guy writing a sports book seriously when he writes, "Your team is one point behind". Overall I like the books though. As I mentioned, there's a certain charm to them and have a folksy newsletter feel. In addition, they're not very expensive. I'd recommend picking a couple up to see if you like them (which I never thought I'd say after reading the first one).

    5200 Mini ??

A 5200 mini could still be one of the biggest consoles around
  3. That was a crazy good deal!
  4. Am willing to pay or trade a similar rarity instruction manual. Thanks!
  5. Welcome to AtariAge. Slow down, make sure those fingers are on the right keys and tell us a little bit about you like where you're located and if you're looking to make a purchase or just hoping people will be willing to donate to your cause. Either way, I'm looking forward to reading about your Atari adventures in the future!
  6. Wow! This is incredible! I love that things like this continue to pop up even this many years later. That was an awesome story and thanks for sharing!!
  7. Or maybe you're just trying to get other people not to bid so you can get it at a low price
  8. I shouldn't even share this since someone will probably buy it before I can save up the funds but sometimes you have to take a risk... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-console-and-games-great-condition-40-years-old/224127671440?hash=item342f0cdc90:g:l6oAAOSwBNpfJigi
  9. I also found a couple of "letters"... SEAQUEST: SPIDER FIGHTER: I wonder how many games have these.
  10. Just out of curiosity, how did Barbi Benton fit in the story? She knew Todd? She was a video game player groupie? She was there courtesy of Activision? It doesn't seem like a likely pairing (although I'm not complaining).
  11. How did I miss this thread for 7 1/2 months? These title screens are stunning!! Where can I send in my carts to get the titles added Great work!
  12. I thought this thread was over but I found a couple of things that I thought people might like to see. Here's my collection of Activisions newsletters... I'm not sure if this is considered Volume #1 or if I'm missing #1 Volume #2 Volume #3 Volume #4 Volume #5 Volume #6 Volume #7 Anyone know if there's a volume 8 or beyond?
  13. I can't stop going back to look at (and drool over) this Kaboom! mobile. Funny thing is that I didn't really enjoy Kaboom as a kid but all of my kids and I love it now. It was my daughter's favorite game when she was little.
  14. That's not off topic. Looks like a cool Stampede belt buckle. All the cool kids had them!
  15. Good point. Back then, versions of some games like Demon Attack were not even all that similar.
  16. Looks awesome. What a great time to be an intellivision owner!!
  17. That's a great question. Donkey Kong (9) - 2600, 7800, CV, INTV, Vic-20, C64, 8bit, TI99, NES (I realize not all of those are Atarisoft ports). I also only looked at carts. I'm pretty sure Atarisoft also released titles for the Apple II and IBM in disk but I'm not sure which titles.
  18. I saw the Popeye ad and noticed that they split the 8-bit systems. I just assumed they did that to fill all 8 screens. I had forgotten about the Odyssey2 version. Maybe they didn't want to show that one because of the graphics. I never knew that someone made Popeye for the Vic-20. There's a similar ad for Q*bert with the same 8 categories as Frogger (in the exact same slots). I wonder how they decided which games to put in each space. I love the Vic-20 but not sure I'd put that version in the center of my advertisements.
  19. That was awesome. Thanks for putting it together. I didn't realize that there were that many crossover games!
  20. Parker Brothers used to run adds showing 8 ways to play a given game which consisted of showing the same game on 8 different systems (2600, 5200, 8bit, Colecovision, Intellivision, Vic-20, C-64 and TI-99). Besides Frogger and Q*bert, what other games are available on all 8 systems (doesn't have to be a Parker Bros game)?
  21. True but it caught my eye lurking in the background
  22. Isn't that the 5200 box? Also, isn't that a "Coke Wins" box below it?
  23. This thread pretty much made my weekend. I had a great time sharing and seeing everyone else's stuff.
  24. Post it! We can both be Bounty Hunters
  25. They never want to hear it anyhow. It would be a super rare heavy sixer. So heavy they couldn't even include all six switches!
