One game: BEAMRIDER
-
I got my Atari as a Christmas present also. My parents also bought me Breakout so it and Combat were the first games I played. Within a couple of weeks I bought Basketball. I remember reading through their catalog and really wanting Space War and Street Racer. I ended up getting both of them and was disappointed each time. One of the games I have very fond memories of is Starmaster. Until I got it (for my birthday) I was stuck playing Atari on an old black and white TV. However, the instructions clearly said that you needed a color TV to play Starmaster and my dad was afraid that the Atari would hurt our family television so he bought a small color portable one that I could keep the Atari hooked up to

Just in case anyone was wondering, I've summed up the results of the previous posts (if you included a list I only counted your #1 as the worst): Worst: Laser Blast (6 votes) Runner-Up: Freeway (3.5 votes) Honorable Mention: Dragster (3 votes)

I used to buy carts at a flea market that doesn't exist anymore. One day while I was in there the guy selling carts insisted that he had a Porky's II and sold it. He had a large collection and really knew his carts but I didn't believe him at the time. Hmmm, now I wonder...

Whatever game you do, the high reward patches are a MUST!!

Beamrider would be an excellent game to update! It's fast, furious, and great fun.

What will you be bringing this weekend? I can't decide. Any requests?

I absolutely LOVE beamrider!!!! I've been to sector 36 and have scored over 170,000 points. The key to getting a high score is to pick up as many extra ships as possible (you can have more than shows on the bottom of the screen) and kill the mother ship at the end of each sector. When you kill the mother ship you get bonus points for every reserve ship you have left. The bonus per ship is worth more every sector so if you can accumulate a bunch of ships and are successful at getting the mother ship you can really rack up the points. You get an extra ship every time you pick up a stray yellow ship which typically comes out and moves down a beam once per sector. Don't shoot it (it will turn red and kill you). All you need to do is make it collide with your ship. You'll hear a sound like blip-blip-blip. This game gets absolutely frantic at the higher levels!

Yeah I picked a couple up at the dollar stores and a bunch at Odd Lots (now Big Lots) but that was well after the Atari was a big seller.

Good post! There were a lot of great 2 player games. I really liked Wizard of Wor (cooperative); Surround (competitive) and Ice Hockey was a great sports game!

Back in its heyday where was the most unusual place you purchased a new game? I remember searching everywhere when Donkey Kong came out but all of the stores were sold out. I finally found one at a Lowery's Music Center. They sold pianos, organs, and some of the more popular atari games at the time. I also remember buying Firefighter from an electic supply store and Gopher at the grocery store.

I used to sort in alphabetical order but I switched to a sort by company (with alpha as a secondary sort) after I picked up some Tiawan-type games. I like to use VHS cassette towers to store my games in. Each one holds about 100 carts and they display very nicely.

Music Machine definitely has a box. I have one. I'll try to get a scan of it (and my Coke Wins box for that matter) to Atari Age soon. I don't think the record came with the video game because if I remember correctly, there was a coupon for the record in the video game box. There's also a Music Machine paperback book if anyone's interested. Ironically, I've found the book, record, loose cart, and boxed cart with instructions in 4 separate locations in the wild!

What are your favorite and least favorite Imagic games
cvga replied to woodyi76's topic in Atari 2600
I thought the graphics (for firefighter) were good but the gameplay got old way too quickly. It would have been better if you could have entered the building and battled the flames to save people. -

I like Dragonfire and Laser Gates the best. I think Fire Fighter was a stinker. I really really wanted that one when I was a kid and after I had saved for a long time and bought it, I was disappointed. -
I am the master at Beamrider (174,620 sector 36) on October 5, 2000! I'm very good at bomberman and I'm a challenge at gameboy tetris.

I guess the prize of my collection would be my boxed Coke Wins even though the box is pretty boring.
-
I think Space Attack is their best game and Masters of the Universe is their worst. Overall though I thought MNetwork was one of the better 3rd party developers for the 2600.
-
A couple more I thought of would be: Oil's Well (which I think would go well with the 2600) and Food Fight.
-
I think Bosconian is available for the Playstation on one of the namco packs. Games that I wish had been converted to the 2600 include: Bomberman Rally-X 3-on-3 basketball from the C-64 PBA Bowling from Intellivision

Beamrider all the way!

I liked playing Bank Heist even though the graphics sucked.
