  1. No there is not much in the way of difference outside of some bug listing stuff.

Reading through the list of bugs, I get the impression that things weren't off to a good start with the Jaguar II. Seems like it was going to be a repeat of the Jaguar....

  2. It can be found using the Internet Archive web site (which has several copies of the Static Gamer web site at various points in time). I'd find it for you, but unfortunately the site seems to be down at the moment.

  3. The middle line seems to say "Introduction". That would in fact suggest that it is a more complete version, since the version that has been found contains no such introduction.

The "Space Knights" theory is also an interesting thought. You could be right there.

Has anyone ever talked to Lance Lewis to see if he has a more recent version of the game or could refer us to someone who might? As far as I know, we have no idea who the programmer was on this game, right?

  4. the font lettering in that picture suggest(to me) that it is SW2k. (correct me if im wrong. i dont have kasumi ninja)

It does to me too. It looks like the same font and the text is in the same general position of the menu text in the version that has been found. Interesting.....

Course it could be just another goofy picture that they put in the game while they were working on it (much like Lance's picture). It doesn't really suggest to me that it's a more complete version of the game.

  5. Hooking up devices not intended for the Jag such as the wii-mote would most certainly require some sort of electronics between them.

That's what the PIC is for.

If the wii-mote is some standard form of serial input, Im willing to bet it would not be to painful to get the Jag to read it.

    It's bluetooth.

Am I not being clear enough or something? I'm not sure why you're talking about the UART and DSP on the Jag. The VR communication is done through the joystick ports on the Jaguar. Maybe you better review the Jaguar specs -- I'm not sure what more I can say. Maybe an ASCII picture will help???

Wiimote <-- PIC w/ bluetooth --> Jaguar joystick port

So as you see the electronics are all there and cheaply available. All that's missing is the code running on the PIC (and as I said the wiimote portion of the code is already done)

  6. That's why I think it would be pretty easy to connect the wii-mote head tracker (see my other post) to the Jaguar. Both protocols are now well known -- all that's needed is a bridge between the two. There are solutions out there for connecting a PIC microcontroller to a bluetooth chip, so with one of these and a bit of code it should be do-able (in theory at least). I'm sure the devil is in the details of course, but it seems like this would be a very cheap and easy solution....

Here's an example of a PIC with bluetooth. All that's needed is someone to write the code -- and the guy that did the wii-mode head tracker is giving away his source code, so much of the work is already done!

  7. it only needs to send the same protocal of data...that should not be too hard to figure

out. You'll need one of the two or three folks that actually have one of these to allow you to run some experiments

with it while they are playing, buy there is no reason whatsoever why it could not be done.

The protocol is well documented in the Jaguar specs, no? Are the specs wrong or something???

  8. There's no code to finish the rest of the game, it just crashes at the higher levels

I think he's talking about source code so someone could finish writing the game.

And yes, I did make a manual for it last year, along with manuals for Space War 2000 and Brett Hull Hockey :) There's found in threads from last year. I can repost them all needed....

  9. I don't care much for Brett Hull either. Sure it's pretty much complete, but graphics are right out of the Genesis. Yuck.

Give me Arena Football over Brett Hull any day. Arena Football is far less complete, but it's a much better showcase for what the Jag is capable of. Arena Football is a real 64-bit 3D game.

  10. I don't quite get why Sears was selling this VCS clone though? I mean they already have their own branded Atari VCS in the same catalogue. Were these even sold nationwide?

That's no clone, that's the Atari 2800. Atari was phasing out the 2600 and replacing it with the 2800, so Sears probably had both in the catalog in anticipation of this phase out.

Of course, then the market tanked and Atari never did release the Atari-branded 2800 in the US. However these Sears-branded 2800s were sold and can be found fairly easily on eBay.

See this Wikipedia entry for more info....

  11. I started the auction at $0.99. The winning bid was $20.00. Basically it was a bunch of stuff I picked up at the thrifts over the past year and put together as a package to sell on Ebay. I kinda like hunting things at the thrifts, putting together packages and reselling them. Kind of a hobby I guess. But I probably only got half what I put in to it. Like I say I'm pretty naive with Genesis stuff's value. Now I know to pass on Genesis stuff at the thrifts from now on!!!

  12. I auctioned off what I thought was good lot of Genesis stuff on eBay recently:

    1 system

    3 controllers

    31 boxed/complete games

I was very surprised by how low the winning bid went. Let's just say it would have been more worth my while just to have thrown this all in the trash for what I got for it.

I'm not a big follower of the Genesis world, but I guess the market is totally saturated for Genesis stuff????

  13. The one thing the game could really benefit from is a "save game" option -- or at least the ability to skip levels by entering a code. It's a bit of a pain to have to start from the beginning every time you play....

  14. It's a VERY good game. In fact, it's better than a bunch of the Jaguar's released games. It's simply amazing to me that Atari didn't take the small amount of time and effort that was left to polish it up a little and release it. They had a definite winner on their hands.

The game is quite playable, though to be fair it does occasionally crash on the higher levels. Also, the two player / split screen mode can crash if the two ships hit each other -- but since most people will play solo this doesn't matter that much.

I wrote a manual for it last winter (I also wrote manuals for Brett Hull and Arena Football). Here's the link to the SpaceWar manual:
