  1. I grew up in the Twin Cities, MN. Around 1995 in Minneapolis, there was a bargain bin store connected to a Goodwill called Digger's Delight. There I saw an Atari 400 on the floor with the cover popped open, an Atlantis cartridge was plugged in. Before this, I didn't realize Atari had made computers, only being familiar with the 2600 VCS, 5200 and Video Pinball consoles. Eventually this store relocated and was renamed "G Too". An employee there was nice enough to look out for any Atari computers that came in and hold them for me. Over time, he managed to find a 400, 800 and an XEGS keyboard. (There I also became introduced to the Commodore 64 but that's for another forum.) A few years later, back at the first Goodwill store, I picked up an Atari 800XL, which is my main A8 computer to this day. Starting in 1997, I interned at a Commodore dealership called Raymond Computer in Saint Paul, also known as Raymond Commodore-Amiga. One day Lance Ringquist from Video 61 stopped in and he had a 1050 disk drive with manuals. I (or my parents) saved up some money and I purchased it from him. I also attended a meeting of a local Atari computer club called S.P.A.C.E and though I was not officially a member (would have been around 12 at the time), I received a floppy disk with games and copies their newsletters in the mail until sometime after I relocated to Des Moines, Iowa in 1999.
  2. I was reading an issue of ST Format magazine (Issue 17, December, 1990) and came across an article announcing a Transputer expansion unit dubbed the STT. The specs outlined are... CPU Speed: 15-20 MIPs Palette: 16 million colo(u)rs Price: £300-400 Availability: September, 1991 How far along did this product get in development before it was canceled?
  3. After viewing pictures of various ST motherboards, I am now wondering if the MMU/or Glue on my ST may have been reinstalled the wrong way. http://www.atari-forum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Atari_ST_motherboard_revisions Glue and MMU from my ST: http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e111/TonyVisconti/IMG_0094_zpsc9ee2f0b.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e111/TonyVisconti/IMG_0098-2_zps33eb2d69.jpg
  4. Yes, the motherboard is a revision A with an external power supply and no built-in disk drive or RF modulator. The RAM expansion was an additional 512K piggybacked that connected to the MMU with 3 wires, got the same screen though.
  5. I'm in the process of fixing up an early 1985 520ST. I have installed TOS, pushed in all the socketed chips and removed a touchy RAM expansion, and it has begun to show signs of life. Lately upon booting, it's been scrolling random characters for a few seconds and then showing a black screen with a white border. Has anyone else experienced this error? P. S.: Thanks to adolobe for the ST, accessories and help with troubleshooting.
  6. I got my first 5200 when I was 9 (in 1995). My mother picked up a boxed 4 port from a local Goodwill with games and controllers. It didn't come with the switchbox so it was not known if the system worked. Some months later my family sold it as is, one of the few consoles that didn't wind up in the dumpster.
  7. Are you planning on keeping compatibility with A8 cartridges?
  8. Hello, I am looking for an Atari 1040STFM with or without a monitor, had regrettably chucked my 1040STF about 10 years ago but still have the software and manuals. Thanks, Bernard "Innovative Leisure" Anderson
  9. I wonder how the Tong motherboards compare with the "6402" proto.
  10. 11. TGX/MNX, this is very interesting. How did you come across the Transputer?
  12. Speaking of Atari ST emulation on an Amiga, has anyone used Medusa? I wonder how it compares. http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/medusa
  13. What do you mean? The book isn't due to be released until July 27th.
  14. Hello, Are there any boards that fit inside the ST computers that add a Yamaha FM chip (i.e. YM2203)? Thanks, Bernard Anderson (Innovative Leisure)
  15. Hello, Does anyone have schematics for the 1090 expansion box? Thanks, Bernard Anderson (Innovative Leisure)
  16. Hello, Are buffers needed for each device when several devices are using a CPU bus (i.e. Atari PBI, Amiga Zorro) or will a few buffer all devices? Thanks, Bernard "Innovative Leisure" Anderson
  17. Does anyone have a high resolution photo for the bottom of the motherboard? Thanks.
  18. I've been an Atari fan for 16 years and discovered the Atari Museum website (the former Atari Historical Society) 12 years ago. Long story short, Curt Vendel is a major reason I've remained interested in Atari and especially their products that never made it to stores. I wish him success with the 7800 XM expansion module and look forward to future products from Legacy Engineering. Thank You, Bernard "Innovative Leisure" Anderson
  19. Before Commodore bought Amiga, they were working on their own 16-bit computer, the 900. So instead of the ST vs. Amiga "computer war", by 1986 we probably would have had: Atari and Amiga's versions of the Lorraine, the 900 and a non-Atari version of the ST by TTL.
  20. How about a port of Duke Nukem 1 with FM sound and high score capabilities?
  21. It depends on what you consider to be the "true" Atari. The XE was developed by TTL/Atari Corp. and the 2600jr (2100) by Atari Inc.
  22. Does anyone know if the scrolling triangle graphics were generated on an A8 (Atari 800 since this was 1981) and what it would take to program such graphics? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xr3m2_earth-wind-fire-lets-groove_music Thanks.
