  1. Congrats, Sunsetflip. Glad you're enjoying the 2600. Midnight Magic is one of my favorite games of all time.
  2. Could we have the glitches as a difficulty option? Seriously though, I'd love to see this project surface.
  3. I have an '87 Atari Corp. 5200 joystick and will post pictures if anyone is interested.
  4. I'd purchase a repro, especially if there were a 360K disc controller card available (a la 1450XLD).
  5. Does anyone know how to remove individual keys on an XEGS keyboard?
  6. I think having the RIOT as a sound chip for a new console in 1984 (and 1986) hurt Atari but in retrospect think the technological limitations of an 80s game console are part of its appeal. If the sound of the 7800 were "perfect", we wouldn't have the XM expansion module now would we?
  7. I love the idea of having a 6502 in an ST, especially as a co-processor.
  8. Not rare, it was packaged with the early 7800s. Is the guide on your cartridge spring-loaded by any chance?
  9. Yes and the differences between the 6502 and Z80 could also be taken into consideration. Not that it's worth debating.
  10. The power supply variation in the second photo would have to be older. I have one and on it is the code "2284", or the 22nd week of 1984.
  11. I'm not an expert but couldn't help but notice a few interesting details in the "Mickey" photo: If you look closely at the connectors on the board, you'll notice that the PCBs used in the ST prototype* are very similar with two buses and a smaller connector in the middle. A close-up picture of the latter reveals the boards were designed in 1983 "ATARI © 83 040483-01". (*The URL is unfortunately down at present but you can search for "atari st prototype bambi.net" in Google Images.) Also, the numbers on the spaces for the 3 Amiga chips match those on the Lorraine developer boxes. P.S.: Curt and Marty have been of great help to the Atari and Amiga communities and the information they have uncovered is nothing short of amazing.
  12. I also think the bottom joystick is older. Most of the connectors have ridges on the cables (like the joystick above).
  13. AT*303 0242040 (4-port transitional model)
  14. Imitation wood meets real wood. I like it.
  15. I've been looking at the schematics to the 2600 cartridge adapter for the 5200. Would a 2600 adapter be possible for the Nintendo NES/Famicom?
  16. I think the main reason Atari canceled the 5200 was the same reason they canceled the 1200XL: it was an enhanced 400/800 that sacrificed compatibility for new, yet unnecessary features. Had the 5100 (5200jr) been released, it might have impressed current 5200 owners but there were still a lot of 2600 owners looking for a worthy successor. Enter the 7800.
  17. Favorite Imagic games: Moonsweeper, Atlantis, Demon Attack Least favorite Imagic games: Fire Fighter, Cosmic Ark
  18. Cool! It looks like Target used a 1984 Warner photo for the ad.
