  1. Even a loose Flintstones 2 is still decent. To say that there are not NES titles that garner $$$ is preposterous. I'm not comparing boxed to loose carts, but even games such as TMNT Tourney Fighters in the box would fetch decent money, you just need to know your NES titles....

In April, a sealed TMNT Tourney Fighters for NES went for $459-ish.

The last two loose Stadium Events went for over $600 and $700 respectively.

Flintstones 2 loose usually gets about $50-65. Boxed goes for about $150-200. (I should know, that's what I got for mine about 1 1/2 years ago.

    Anyway...

  2. Marco has a boxed Gauntlet and yes, the manual is glued to the front of the box. My CIB Malagai is just like that.

Ahh - so it was glued to the front (I was wondering how they attached it.)

Does the box have any lettering/text on the sides/spines of the box?

I'm asking because I was wondering if the box was actually sold that way for Gauntlet, or if a spare Answer box was used with the Gauntlet manual.

    Thanks for the info.

    Steve

It just says "Answer Software" on the side. I don't think anyone in their right mind, would rip Malagai instructions off the box and then proceed to glue Gauntlet instructions onto it.

I've had a mint shrinkwrapped Malagai for close to 10 years. I always thought the stuff on the front of the box was printed on the box, but after reading this thread I checked it out. Sure enough, there are instructions there! But on mine it is really really hard to tell the difference. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that this thing didn't look like a kludge when it was originally sold shrinkwrapped.

Also I don't think this was mentioned yet, but mine has a Malagai sticker on one side of the box.

    Any chance for pics?? :)

  3. I understand at this point that you would need to play the game (or try to) to determine whether it was a PAL or NTSC version.

My question is, what are you looking for once you turn the game on?

    Thanks for your help.

In general, a PAL and NTSC versions of the same game, when played on the same console/TV will display different colors on the TV. They also may have different aspect ratio or part of the picture missing at the top/bottom. A PAL game may display a vertically rolling image on a NTSC TV. I believe there are emulators out there which you could run both a NTSC and PAL rom of a game to get some idea of the color differences.

Specifically for Mangia, on the back of the box is a screenshot:

    http://www.atariage.com/box_page.html?Soft...3&BoxStyleID=28

I've never played Mangia, but that picture on the back probably shows the proper color scheme when playing NTSC Mangia on a NTSC TV or a PAL Mangia played on a PAL TV. Here is the screen shot of Mangia on AA:

    http://www.atariage.com/screenshot_page.ht...wareLabelID=283

Those colors are different than shown on the box, but I have no idea if that is NTSC/NTSC, or PAL Mangia on NTSC system or what.

Dude - fantastic explanation of what to look for!

Thank you very much - and you did it without having to resort to anything negative or derogatory. ;)

I'm sure that I'm not the only person who appreciates the info.

Now if we can figure out if the box picture or the screenshot picture is the NTSC version...

    Thanks again,

    Steve

  4. So, here's a pair of eyeballs for someone who's been here as long as me, calling me a "noob"...

Time spent at a message board VS weather or not your an ATARI n00b are 2 totally different things all together. Thats like apples and oranges. You could be on the forum for 2 seconds and 1 up everyone with know how where as you could be a board member for 5 years and still be a n00b. ;)

I completely understand and agree with what you're saying. Not sure it has any bearing here, however.

I'm only here for one reason, and one reason only. To try and learn more about a system that I've decided to collect for. I've been collecting video games for over 15 years, just not the 2600. Fact is, I'm not new to the 2600, just collecting for it.

My point was that I'm not attacking or saying anything derogatory about anyone.

That guy just felt like butting in, and stated that I was a noob - based on what? The time that I've been here?

Regardless, I have no desire to get involved in a pissing contest with anyone. ;)

I asked a simple question and all I got was a response like I'm bothering someone.

To which I basically said, if you don't want to answer, then don't. Responses that don't help are unnecessary.

I simply don't understand why some people feel the need to interject without any positive content.

Shawn - your first response above was helpful.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  5. Listen, if you don't want to reply (or be helpful) then don't.

    Thanks for your help.

I vote "open season" on newbies who respond to someone doing nothing but help others, with rolling eyeballs.

    <Grab the shotguns>

I understand at this point that you would need to play the game (or try to) to determine whether it was a PAL or NTSC version.
    Then why ask?

First of all dude - you've been here 15 days longer than I have. Check the dates we started here.

Second of all, this WAS a conversation between me and CPU WIZ, so your comment makes no sense. I asked a question that he found as repetative to a topic that "had already been covered."

Finally, you should read the entire thread before butting in. If I had the answer I was looking for, I wouldn't have needed to post at all.

Clearly, knowing that I need to power up a game doesn't tell me what I'm looking for once I turn it on.

So, here's a pair of eyeballs for someone who's been here as long as me, calling me a "noob"...

  6. Just curious to know if you can tell by looking at the cart/label.

For the millionth time, no you can NOT.

    Wow. :?

Okay, so how can you tell, then?

Arrgh, can someone please shoot me? twitch2.gif

    Ok.

Listen, if you don't want to reply (or be helpful) then don't. But I read this thread, and the only mention was a question that wasn't fully answered.

I understand at this point that you would need to play the game (or try to) to determine whether it was a PAL or NTSC version.

  7. How can you even tell if you have a NTSC or a PAL Mangia anyway?

Just curious to know if you can tell by looking at the cart/label.

I have NO idea what a ROM is versus a masked ROM or an EPROM, etc. (all Greek to me) ;) So any explanation about that won't help me much.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  8. In case anyone was wondering or uses this thread for reference in the future it sounds like 3 copies are accounted for, chances of finding this one at a decent price sound slim.

Where did you get that number from? Not from me.

Looks I read it wrong, 4?

Sorry, not to get technical, but you're making a VERY big assumption here.

There's nothing in this thread that supports or even implies that there are only 4 Mangia NTSC carts accounted for.

  9. You are very confused, there is no such thing as PAL Answer Software games. :ponder:

I must be thinking of some other rare game. I'll have to check again. It had something to do with the NTSC box being VERY difficult to find, and that most found were PAL.

Can't remember, but I thought it was these two. Any idea on what it was?

    Anwyay, thanks for clarifying.

    Steve

  10. Couple of questions here...

Did NEW CommaVid games come in "sealed" or "shrinkwrapped" boxes?

Did Video Life come in a box with an instruction manual, or was the box a repro made a couple of years ago?

Which version (white label or blue label) of Magicard came in the box (or did either) and was it the same box?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    1.) No.

2.) Yes, original box and manual.

3.) No box, my wife designed one.

    Thanks for the reply CPUWIZ.

So, the Magicard box I've seen isn't legit?

This isn't mine, but I saw one in a thread.??

No, the box you saw, was designed by my wife.

    WOW! Very nice indeed.

Was the printing of that box a "limited affair", or is it still available somewhere?

    Thanks,

    Steve

I think we made about 8 or so, long ago.

    For the confused: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44695

    So there are two versions?

Original size that didn't hold the manual, and the second version that did?

    Interesting.

Any chance of making any more?? :ponder:

  11. One last question.

I was trying to read up on these titles in the forums, and was confused by one thing.

What is the PAL vs NTSC discussion concerning these Answer titles?

Are some people saying that no NTSC Answer boxes have been found or something?

Sorry, I don't fully understand what the controversy is here.

Could one of you guys clarify about this?

Have NTSC boxes for Malagai and/or Gauntlet been found? Is there any difference between PAL and NTSC Answer releases? Or was there PAL releases at all?

    I'm a little confused here.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Sorry, just trying to get my information correct.

The Atari Age description for this title says that it was shipped mailorder only in a foam casing without a box.

I assumed that it wasn't sold boxed.

    Thanks for clarifying, CPUWIZ :D

  13. Gauntlet was sold boxed, not put together by an enthusiast :)

    Cheers,

  16. To the front, they adhered the instruction manual. (Can anyone tell me how they "stuck" the manual on the front? Tape?)

What about the spines of the box? All Black, or is there any text?

    Never knew that.

Are you sure the manual wasn't in the box?

I'm not sure about any of that, that's why I was looking for confirmation. It was mentioned early and on other posts, that's why I put it down. If it wasn't on the front of the box, and the box was black, how else would you know what game you bought. I thought that the box had no graphics or artwork, and that the manual was put on the front so you would know what game it was.

Gauntlet was released as a mail order exclusive only, and was shipped in a foam casing with no box.
Gauntlet came in a box, allright:

    http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...ERSION_ID=11840

I'm afraid that I don't think that's the case (although I'm still new.) From what I understand, the only box released was the one for Malagai. Since it was ALL black on the front, it could easily have been used after-the-fact by anyone who had an extra, to use as a box for Gauntlet.

Marco, CPUWIZ - can you confirm?

Anyone know if it was only the white label with the typed text, or was there a black printed label made for this?
AFAIK Confrontation only exists like this:

    http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...ERSION_ID=11839

    How did I do?
    Not bad at all.

  19. Newb questions forthcoming.

If any of the experts here can confirm my understanding of this, I'd appreciate it (or correct as needed)...

Malagai was the first release by Answer.

It was sold with a black label with red and white text and logo on the front and end of the label.

It came in a black box with nothing on the front and the white text and copyright information on the back.

To the front, they adhered the instruction manual. (Can anyone tell me how they "stuck" the manual on the front? Tape?)

What about the spines of the box? All Black, or is there any text?

    Next came Gauntlet.

Gauntlet was released as a mail order exclusive only, and was shipped in a foam casing with no box.

It came with a black label with red and white text and logo on the front and end of the label.

It did come with a manual, similar in style to the Malagai instruction booklet.

    Confrontation was never released.

It exists in prototype format only. Anyone know if it was only the white label with the typed text, or was there a black printed label made for this?

There was no box made for this title, but an advance copy of the instruction manual exists, as it was mailed out by Answer to promote the upcoming title.

    How did I do?

    Edits and confirmations are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  20. Looks like someone got it for $94.00 on the re-list, I think that was a good deal it was in great condition. I bid 93.00 but was not near my computer at the end so I was beat by a buck, Damn.

Funny part is, you could have just made me an offer for $93 with a day to go, and I would have ended the auction early.

    :D

Better to take a dollar less than no sale at all!

    Anyway, and so it goes.

P.S. They haven't paid yet. If they don't within a couple of days, you're welcome to offer the $93... ;)
