Does either the Wii or the Gamecube do 1080i, as the old Xbox did, with limited selection of games?
No the Wii can not display anything past 480p
The xbox is capable of display 480i/p, 720p and 1080i. depend on the game.

Actrual the Wii and Game cube are more powerful than the xbox. The Wii and game cube both use a Version of ATI's 9700 radieon that can use pixel shader 2.0 and dx9.0 with alot more pixels with 400mhz risc processors. While the 400mhz might look slower compared to the Intel celeron processors clocked at 733 mhz in the xbox the risc processors are more effecint and can handle more operational sets than the Intel processors. Risc processors where used in Apple computers during the time . While the xbox uses a geforce 4 version graphic cards that only holds pixel shader 1.4 and dx 8.1.
However since the xbox was useing full DVD disc while the game cube was using DVD mini disc the xbox was able to push more infomation in the term of textures useage and space. You can see the difference in games like Rouge squardarn 1&2 and Resdent evil 1&4 and any shading heavy game on game cube. While Morrorwind on the xbox cant do the shading stuff of the Game cube it dose have more textureing due to its DVD storage. However the texturing on most non ported games on the Wii and Game cube do look more crisp just not as many textures are being used or stored.
Today the Wii might look more blocky in some games however this is mainly due to 16x9 tv compared to 4:3 tv of yesterday. Both Wii Game cube and xbox were and are mainly 480p systems. That means that 640x480 or (756x480 or something like that.) screen pixels so the Wii is going to look more pixelish due to it being still based on 480p and being streched to 16x9 screen and even though it not 720p its being streched to fill 720p space (like a rubberband being streched around somthing it barely fits). So if you change your wii setting to 4:3 you'll see less pixels.
I'd say something like Super Mario Galaxy would be on par with a nice looking Xbox game.
Just because most every developer outside of Nintendo hasn't taken advantage of the power of the system (As you noted, a GameCube launch title looks better than the vast majority of Wii releases) doesn't mean it's not there.
So if you change your wii setting to 4:3 you'll see less pixels. The Wii's resolution is the same no matter if it's set at 4:3 or 16:9.

And what the heck, the "480" in "480p" is the vertical resolution, so it shouldn't make any difference if the picture is stretched horizontally or not...or am I missing something?

the 480 stuff is the vertical resolution
the 4:3 or 16:9 is the wideness of the screen, it doesn't change the resolution, but it changes a setting in the game that renders things a little bit more skinny so it looks right on a widescreen tv, its not just upping the horisontal resolution.
at least, thats what I think. correct me if I'm wrong.
Most common LCD HD tv's signals run at 640x480p(4x3), 720x480p(16x9), 1280x720p(16x9) or 1920x1080p(16x9). Yes again the Wii dose not chagne it's resolution of 640x480p(4x3).
However there are these signal 480p formats too.
640x480p 4x3 standard unless with Widescreen Anamorphic 16x9
720x480p 16x9 native 16x9 DVD's
The Wii's and GameCube output through hardware:(Wiki)
Custom 'AV Multi Out' port supporting composite video, component video, S-Video (NTSC only) and RGB SCART (PAL only)
480p (PAL/NTSC), 480i (PAL/NTSC) or 576i (PAL/SECAM), standard 4:3 and 16:9 anamorphic widescreen
About Anamorphic widescreen (Wiki)
A DVD labeled as "Widescreen Anamorphic" contains video that has the same frame size in pixels as traditional fullscreen video, but uses wider pixels. The shape of the pixels is called pixel aspect ratio and is encoded in the video stream for a DVD disc player to correctly identify the proportions of the video. If an anamorphic DVD video is played on standard 4:3 television without adjustment, the image may look horizontally squeezed.
Quote:"contains video that has the same frame size in pixels as traditional fullscreen video, but uses wider pixels". That is refering to 4x3 ratio
So yes it will look more pixelish on 16x9 settings
If your useing a 720p LCD HD TV it's not the Magic 1 to 1 pixel ratio.
Also if you useing HD TV its using about 1 Wii pixel is equal to 3.5 or 4 tv pixels on a 720p tv do to it already useing wider pixels.for 16x9.
it also affects the horizontal and vertical pixels.

ok, first off looking to upgrade my 486 pc. i have a 512 or possibly 1mb trident vlb card right now and although its ok i would love to throw in at least a decent 2mb vlb card. also i would like to max the ram, my mb can handle 32mb but only useing 4mb 30 pin ram sticks.
second i'm working on maxing the ram in a win98 pc i'm working on but its very picky about ram so i need at least 2 256mb pc100 LOW DENSITY sticks, emphasis on low density as high density sticks will not work.
thanks!
forgot, also need a 5 din to ps/2 adaptor for a keyboard and also a pair of cheap pc speakers (non USB)
_________
Confusing are these 2 different PC's?

I'm sorry for hearing about your mom
So in your mind compasion is money? Would you perferred that compasion over money when your mom died over people being greedy over your moms debt? My brother died when I was 14 years old and my father died when I was 23 and yes he was 53 too out of that whole ordeal I learned that money does not fix problems but only makes problems. I lost my house and alot of my stuff when that happend I was working at a gas station at the time and I was honest enough to know that I could not afford that house payments or past debt from the IRS so everthing was in the collections that I would of loved to keep went towards the that debt. My mom could not help due to her being divorced from my dad. My wife GF at the time was the only thing that keeped me even headed even when the banks's lawyer's creditors, started writing. If it was for her laughter when I was down or her shoulder for me to lean on I would be only a fraction of the man I am today.
Over pricing stuff is not going to fix or solve your problems it might be a bandaid at best. Bills arn't going to stop comming at you once you've sold everthing you own.You need a more permanent fix and liviing with in your means. When you start looking at humans as people and not as money you'll relize that making someones day is worth more than money or objects. Stuff comes and it gose but it's not going to be there when you fall it's not going to be there to laugh at your jokes. It's not going to comfort you when you cry. Only people can do that. Over charging shows your ture colors and character.
My brother was born in 1/29/1979 and died 3/24/1996 The reason I'm looking for these games is that he always wanted an atari Jaguar but never could afford it. I try and buy an Atari Jaguar game for his birthday in memory. When people price high on trival games. It makes it hard for anyone to afford it or enjoy it.
I really don't mind how you price your stuff if you provid a personal or professional level. I have the problem that once one person see something go for that price everone thinks they can get that much for it look at the my 4th post Someone is selling club drive for the same amount as you with outbox.
I also want to note that I've did not say anything bad about you personaly. I was talking about prices of videogames in general and how stupid they've become now with people jacking up the prices I'm not looking for hand out or charity I'm looking for honesty from people when I buy something. I don't mind overpaying for something if the service was there or if it's a friend but it's my option. when people expect you to pay high prices for some crap and not on a personal or professional level it's rude and a insult

For a $60 Rayman shipped, you should get a free shrinked copy of Club Drive along with a letter of apology.

Can't wait to see what this stuff is going to be bringing in another 10-20 years.

Coal? alternative fuels? LOL I really can't waiting to see Cyber Morph go for $1200 bucks!! No matter the age crap is crap and unlike wine that gets better with age. Crap still stinks of S$#@ and becomes explosive!!

I really hate how videogame pricing is going anymore people ruin all the fun cause of "since it's comming from me and I know how much it's wourth" attitude it's just Bull s$#@. I like honesty that alone is more rare anymore than any videogame not this lets try and rip off consumers and try and get the highest price.

Is this legal?
I think people need to realized that forums are ment for Q&A and that if someone has a question no matter how dumb founded it might be for some should not be in the wrong for asking/posting the question. Did this question deserved to be ask? Yes, Considering that it was about the topic and what was being offered. In wisdom the only bad question is one that is not asked and take it with a grain of salt.
On topic I love the Night of the living dead movies!!!!! THANKS FOR THE UPLOADS!!!!!

Is there a better looking system than the Jaguar + JagCD combo? I don't think so.
I dunno, are we talking about a theoretical universe in which the Sega CDX / Multi-Mega never existed? If we're talking standard history here, there ya go. Most beautiful console ever.
They never did They never did.......

The Jaguar is a brilliant looking system, my fav may be the pc engine. So small and perfectly formed.
(with the cd system)You have no idea how tiny this system is, you can put it in your coat pocket.
The PC Engine in a pretty cool looking little machine the American version though................ TurboGrafx

I'm still looking to get one though

You will have fun with the tg when you finally pick one up

There was one flaw with the NON combo system and that was the detchable CD unit. The plastic for the main drive grear isn't made that well and after the years of play peaple have had there CD unit broke to where the CD wont play anymore, Spin anymore. Another flaw with the combo system like the duo in the USA is that they over heat and useaul the sound of the system gose and would need major repair. If you where going to buy a PC-engine I would recommand the dur-r.

Okay, so you've got a real good handle on what the Neo*Geo is mostly about: tough games (button mashers to say the least) with very few levels comparatively. See, that's the arcade way of doing things. Heck, I remember most of the Neo*Geo games even being on a timer. You'd pop your quarter in, only to get a few innings, a few minutes or whatever. Insert more coinage to play longer.
Neo*Geo definitely has its following and it's a great system for those of us with shorter attention spans these days too. You won't have any trouble trading or selling your systems to be sure.
Oh - about enjoying the Neo*Geo CD unit... yeah, what a big flop that turned out to be. A very cool collectible today for sure - but load times and then the fact that the games ported to CD were not always that much cheaper. I remember them retailing at $70-$120, if/when you even found 'em - what a scam. Availability of software and hardware also - how embarrassing SNK! How could you blow what should/could have been a great console and follow up to your arcade system?!? This stuff isn't just hindsight. We knew back then, what a schlocky job some of these companies were doing to their own systems

What about the Hyper-Neo 64?? what a great follow up ROFLMAO also with the top loader of the Neo-Geo CD the loading time are bad do to the x1speed CD-rom drive

Hay no love for the Pc-engine or TG-16 here "How rude" I think both of them are at least on pair but with the CD add on of the TG-16 I think it looks a little better or with the PC-engine Duo-r/rx that is a great looking system so goo in fact that I think the 3DO FZ-10 tried to miminc it.
I think how it's funny with the Pc-engine-r/rx (Offical system) and TG-16 with the CD addon that the credit card cart games loaded in the front of the system and the CD loaded from the top of the system. Unlike the Sega CD model 1 that was top loader for carts and CD front loader.
-
The 3DO did got with smaller case at the same time of there big box's but more noticeable during 3DO FZ-10 the FZ-10 was in the ring with the Playstaion one I think for 2 years even though the system was being moved out. Smiliar to the Sega Dreamcast when Sega stopped making the dreamcast companys where still making games for the system.
Random rant: I hate how peaple refer Era to Video games like the 16-bit era during the 1990's with Sega and Nintendo like that was that was sold during that time but many different 32-bit system where out like 3DO and CD-i Amiga CD32, Sega CD

All good great seller!!!

WAnted Neo Geo Pocket System and games
in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Posted · Edited by skaredmask
It's going to be hard to find CIB items for neo geo pocket in the states. The reason for this is that after the orginal release of the pocket system the re released it with 5/6 games included in the same package. while they did come with the dust covers it didnt come with box's or manuals. examples of this is this ebay auction eBay Auction -- Item Number: 230605952310
and most U.S. auction for games don't have them while JP games will most likely be CIB.
Note: please look at the the back ground in the frist pictures at the inserts
