  1. Got to agree on Missile Command. I still find that there is an uncomfortable pressure associated with that game that just creeps me out. I had an upright in my gameroom and i found that the arcade version created even more uneasy tension. Still (and sorry if this is off topic) the retro game that freaked me out the most was Karateka. My experience was with the port to the Apple 2 but I assume its the same game for the 7800. The slow motion fighting, the "die and your done", the feeling of progress only to lose because of that damn bird, and the overwhelmingly lopsided health bars later in the game....damn. My parents still tell stories of a time when I had a high fever and was hallucinating about that game...which, in retrospect...is pretty awesome. Anyway..... Bob
  2. I don't remember feeling that ripped off because...let's face it....neither the VCS or the arcade could stand up to the visuals of the Pac-man animated cartoon show. Seriously though I feel like we have to take Atari 2600 arcade ports for what they were. I was lucky enough to play most of these games in the arcade, and luckier still to own a few of them in my home arcade (Pac, Defender, Asteroids etc) but that never minimized the experiences that I have had with the Atari ports. Truth is, whether its Pac-Man, Asteroids, Defender, or whatever.... I remember feeling like the experience that I was getting at home was different enough to be cool, while similar enough to still bear the title of Defender or Space Invaders or ...dare I say it...Pac-Man. Everything thats been said about the Pac-Man port has been true (graphics, gameplay, colors, etc) but that will never take away the great memories of playing it with my Dad when I was 8.....well for a few games anyway....then we played a wayyyy better game. Cheers, Bob
  3. I think you guys are onto something with the auction/storage/pawn shows on TV these days. Folks see things sell for big money on their favorite show and it inspires them to ransack the attic and throws a few hooks in the water. I suppose that, especially these days, the prospect of a bit of cash in the attic is welcome and I have been floored by some of the prices those shows throw around. As an arcade collector as well, CL has always been full of big money "dreamers" who look to score big with beaters, lousy conversions or hellcades.....but.....I just watched one of those storage locker shows sell a beat up Ms.-Pac for nearly a grand. If thats really what those guys are clearing its no wonder that people think that they can ask $250 for their Atari Jr. and a bunch of r1 and r2 games.
  4. I remember coming to Demons to Diamonds later in the 2600 era, but once I played it I could not put the paddle down. It was, and still is, a 2600 favorite. Kaboom is a very worthy second place for me.
  5. Just for the record....the bump came from the post before mine. Just sayin'
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't her mention of doing a "Best Offer" deal outside of the auction violate ebay's TOS?...especially if she mentions it IN THE LISTING. Oh well...guess I'll just keep watching.
  7. Thanks Jaybird. Thats exactly what I was looking for. Bob
  8. Hey All, I have a couple of 2600 games that are still NIB or Complete in box and I was wondering if anyone knew of a plastic case or box solution for storing or displaying them. I have seen such plastic boxes for CIB/NIB NES carts but can't seem to find one for 2600 boxed games. Any ideas? Thanks for the help. Bob
  9. Just received my Vectrex games. They were packed extremely well and were in great shape. Two big thumbs up for boxpressed. Thanks for a great transaction. Bob
  10. Grab a Vectrex if you can snag one. The prices have gone up on these recently but I can tell you that they are absolutely worth it. Last time I checked, the Multi-cart is available on e-bay right now so that might be your first stop. Just don't let the prices scare you away. As was mentioned, they are still out there at a reasonable price. 7800 would be a nice pickup as well. I have loved some of the ports to that system and its ability to play 2600 games could save you some space and connections. I agree that TG-16 would also be a nice addition. I have been looking to snag one of those myself. Good Luck Bob
  11. I also bought the "How to..." videos a while back. Great seller and smooth transaction. Thanks again. Bob
  12. I can also attest to the great work that Yurkie does. I bought my av modded cv with ball joysticks and straightened cords this past summer and I can't say enough great things about them. Buy from Yurkie. 'nuff said. Bob
  13. Also looking for a loose copy of Solar Quest for Vectrex. I would prefer the cart be in nice shape. PM me. Bob
  14. Its sad to see what has happened to TGI. I remember watching a few interviews with Walter Day as he did the "farewell tour", so to speak, and I remember thinking that his departure didn't bode well for TGI. Not that it was free of problems with him there, its just that, as mentioned earlier, the link to retro is all but gone. I have considered sending some 2600 scores in for the better part of the last 2 years but kids/work/life has kept me from doing so. Hearing how unresponsive TGI has been in verifying and posting scores I see no reason to bother now. Maybe I'll send them along to retrocade. Cheers, Bob
  15. Hi All I've been bitten by the Vectrex bug again and I'm looking for games (preferably in box with overlays, but will settle for cart/overlay if need be). Drop me a pm if you have anything available and what you'd like for them. FYI, I am not looking for mint/unopened games. No offense to those who collect them but my games get played...so complete or mostly complete will do just fine. Cheers, Bob
  16. Just to add my 2 cents here. I recently received my CV from Yurkie modded with AV cables as well as the Ball Knob/Straightened cord combo and I have to say that I couldn't be happier. His work is absolutely top notch. You'd think that this was how Coleco envisioned the system to be. If you're thinking about getting into the CV definitely send Yurkie a PM. Thanks and cheers. Bob
  17. I have also been getting around it with the "ending soonest" drop down. I've also reached out to ebay a few times and notified them that their new format is going to drive me away from their site. Actually, its more likely that scammers, misleaders, and crooked sellers will do that but the format change sucks too. Bob
  18. 7/24/2011: Beat GigaWing 2 on Dreamcast. Bob
  19. 15 minutes ago: Darksiders for XBOX 360....btw a pretty terrific yet overlooked game. Looking forward to the sequel. Bob Also knocked out some XBLA games: RezHD, Shadow Complex, and Castle Crashers (this year). Oh..and Contra on NES...again.
  20. LOS-The payoff, or "ending" was worth the time put into the game. Overall, I found it to be a pretty good game. The graphics are as advertised. The knock for me wasn't the length of the game, a dynamic that bugged some reviewers, but the length of individual sections. I remember thinking a few times, "I've been in the village/castle/cave/etc for a long time fighting these same monsters". A warning for fans of the nes castlevania, or even the Metroidvania games.....this is a different expereince. Much more in the GoW, Darksiders, or even OOT model. Cheers, Bob
  21. Just finished Dragon Age II on 360 and also remembered that I completed Castlevania: Lords of Shadow a few weeks ago. Bob
  22. Beat Gunsmoke and Rush n' Attack for NES last week. Bob
  23. Sorry to re-ignite a long-dead thread but I realized this weekend, as I taped over my unboxing vid with a "kids at Disney" vid, that I never updated this thread with the promised video. For that I am sorry. For what its worth, the box included: -approx. 20 colecovision games with instructions. -25 or so intellivision games with overlays and instructions. -A TON of Colecovision controllers. (Black and Beige versions) -An intellivision system in pretty rough shape. (controllers are pretty bashed up.) -A Colecovision Expansion module 2 (thats the wheel..right?) -A Colecovision rollerball controller in pretty nice shape. -A pair of Super Action Controllers. -A bunch of random wire and power supplies. All in all....a very nice haul...especially when you consider the price: $0.00 Again...sorry that I never updated this thread....I guess I just lost my train of thought after I didn't find anything super rare in the box (well that and the wife, kids, job, life stuff...lol) Cheers, Bob
