  1. moocowmoo Not the same book, although the same title.
  2. Jip I know, but since the happenings with his site, I was wondering who will now accept scans.
  3. Just spent the last few days reading all Micropendium magazines. What a joy. During the mid 80's there was a lot of discussion about Freeware/Fairware, and i found that very entertaining. I want to hear from the "older" users here on what their experiences were when they heard about Open Source for the first time. I just wonder what the editor of Micropendium would have made of Open Source if the TI came out in the late 90's/early 21st century, and how the discussion about freeware/fairware would have been if it had to address open source as well. By the way, what happened to John and Laura from Micropendium?
  4. Hi guys I am in possesion of a book The Macmillan Easy Home Computer Series: The TI 99/4A User's Guide published in 1983. I am willing to scan this in. Where can I upload to?
  5. Lee, I owe you!! I looked in User Groups, Central Iowa, but couldnt find it there. Also used the search function to no avail. Sitelist.txt worked like magic. Thanx again
  6. Retroclouds. Not exactly what I am looking for but thanx. From their letter: "Tl Tips Book In an effort to provide easily accessed documentation to TI users, I have put together a TI tips booklet that consists of 99 tips for the TI-99/4A. These are a compilation of suggestions given in our user group newsletter. They include PEEKS, POKEs, listings, hints, and so on. Also included is a complete disk drive memory map, summary of Ex- tended BASIC commands, and a sort- ing program written in BASIC and machine language...." The contact person was John Hamilton Pieter
  7. Hi guys I have been browsing through old Compute! magazines, and in the letters column was a letter from the Central Iowa 99/4A users group about a 99 Tips and Tricks booklet that they have published. Anyone know where I can find one? I have looked through whtech, but am not able to find it. Regards Pieter
  8. Finalterm? I use it a lot
  9. If I am not mistaken, Ernie has stated that he wants to pass on the archive. Since yesterday I get a "pageok" when I visit the site. Anyone knows whats happening?
  10. I am running Windows 7 even on newer hardware, as some of the expensive software we use at work just wont run on 8. One particularly funny reason we had was that the software will not run because of the lack of a Start Panel. Home use, I run Win 2008 Server on my desktop, and Calculate Linux on my laptop (Fork of Gentoo). I have occasionaly run into dependency problems, but Gentoo's USE flags make it a breeze. The only thing that bugs me sometimes, is the time it takes for applications to be compiled in Gentoo (Firefox takes over an hour), but hey, you end up with a system that is tailored to your needs, and optimized for your hardware. (Luckily Calculate also lets you install packages which are already compiled a la rpm's and debs.) Just my 2c
  11. Willsy's mention of Parco brought back a lot of memories right now. Living in South Africa limited my "experience" with the Texy. I had to rely on some digging in order to get software etc for the TI. In SA there were two sources available, Compute Magazine, and a magazine of which the name evades me now. So after seeing an ad in one of the mags, I sent out a letter to Parco, and Voila, a month later, their catalogue arrived. Years later, I found a supplier in SA with their own catalogue. O and after typing in the program listings from the magazines, and saving it, I cut out advertisements about the TI and pasted them in a book (which I still have)
  12. Received on 21 January 2012: Sent Sat Jan 21, 2012 2:30 AM pjduplooy, on Sat Jan 21, 2012 12:17 AM, said: Hi OX. Are you still planning to do an updated TI Gameshell? Looking forward to it if you do!! Yes, there will be a version 2, can't say when though as I'm taking a break from it for now.
  13. Hi guys Just want to find out something after all that was discussed in this thread. Are there any other systems out there that still have copyright on them after thirt or so years? Are there any where the companies that sold them encourage the use of emulators?
  14. Seen as I have everything he has on his website, I have decided to post this, to see if anyone is interested. Thanx for the info
  15. Hi guys By a show of vote, who would like scans of the following: Introduction to 990 Assembly Language Student Guide (TI 1979). If I can recall correctly the TMS9900 is a scaled down version of the 990. I have some other guides that cover the DX10 operating system, COBOL, Pascal and Basic. lol. I could scan that in as well.. The Macmillan Easy Home Computer Series: The TI 99/4A User's Guide by Bill Brewer. 1983, Pumpkin Press. I will find out if I am allowed to do it. Pieter
  16. jacquesg Thanx for the info. I was in contact with Mike about two years ago, and he was extremely helpful!! Although I didnt buy PC99 and the Cyc then, he was willing to let the money transfer go through paypal. He mentioned that he was in South Africa for a while, but I never asked him if it was for holiday or something else. Pieter
  17. OK guys. As the OP of this post I like some heated conversation about a subject loved by all (the TI). But this has turned into a bit of a flamewar. Just my 2c. As I said I am from South Africa. The problem with that is that there is little or no access to actual TI hardware and/or software down here. The only way of getting info about the TI is on communities like this. In order for me to relive my childhood memories I have to rely on emulation. The cost of getting hardware and software (the exchange rate!!) is prohibitive. I am still looking at getting PC99 and the Cyc DVD. The software is not a problem, but the DVD might get lost in the post (The postal service here is not very reliable, and that is an understatement). So I am very grateful to people that does things like the TI Gamebase. I fully understand that most of the roms and other software are not PD, and that TI is still the copyright holder, but hey, how am I supposed to relive my love for the TI without such contributions? Regards Pieter
  18. Ok guys another question. What will a TI-99/4A set me back on ebay? (Console, PEB if I can find one, otherwise the NANOPEB or CF7+), Speech Synthesizer, probably Minimem cartridge, EA, XBASIC, TEII, Alpiner, and maybe a cassette player (Maybe harder to find than a TI?) The Ti should be PAL i suppose. Who are the reputable sellers on ebay, and whom should I be wary of? Pieter
  19. Lee, I have downloaded TI994w (I think I have downloaded all versions including the one with 80 col suppt) Havent used it at all though. I saw in another post about Fred's programs now on WHTECH until April, and have grabbed it earlier today. Pieter
  20. Hi guys Have checked ebay (but not in a while) lol. Have used Classic99, Win994a (Have used it quite a lot), and MESS. Saw a copy of PC99 on the net, and downloaded it before it was taken off, and used it once or twice in DosBox, but my conscience got the better of me, as I have problems with stuff like that (People spending time and money creating software, and then other people the just distributing it on the net). I find that a mix of these emulators satisfy my needs. I have just downloaded the TI 99 Gamebase, and that looks very promising. Does anyone know if I can put in non game-related software in this? As I said I have a lot of Emulator files etc etc etc. Just looked at my archive, and it is about 50GB. Hehehe
  21. Hi guys My name is Pieter, and I am from South Africa. Just a bit of my TI background. I received my first TI in 1981 or 1982. Got the Beige Console, the Speech Synthesizer, a cassette recorder, and Alpiner. During the following years, I also got Mini Memory, Parsec, and Munchman. I also started buying Compute Magazine, and through various other sources, also TI related clippings, which I pasted into a book which I still have today. Since then I have purchased various books which I also still have. A friend of mine (school buddy)'s father worked at one of the first sellers of mainframes etc in South Africa, and he got hold of a set of Assembler Manuals for computers based on the 990* including the TMS9900 , that had tutorial tapes included. This I still have. In about 1993 I got rid of my TI, but still kept an eye on TI things. About two years ago the TI emulation bug bit me, and I started to download emulators for the TI, roms, cart, disk, and tape images, as well as scanned books, magazines, etc. I purchased some books on assembly, and had a guy in France scan in the EA manual. This forum has been one of my greatest sources of info on goings on in TI world. THANKS!!!! The beginning of this year (2012) the bug bit me to look and see if I can get some TI hardware, and start retro gaming in earnest. I would like to know from you guys, about what is new in TI world (Hardware Projects mainly). I know of a project in the UK to build a G2 (Geneve 2), but dont know if it is still alive (refers to info about 2010 plans, and nothing further). Also looking for info on people that might ship TI hardware and software to South Africa (most of the stuff on ebay doesnt ship to South Africa). I wish you a wonderful and prosperous 2012. Pieter
