Sony says its new PlayStation is more than a year away
DJ Clae replied to 0078265317's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yep, 2020 for sure. Otherwise the tech's gonna be too late, and there's no reason for them to be talking about it now. They need to get a new console out to keep consumers interested. There is a large demographic of aging gamers willing to spend big bucks on new consoles. -
New PC Engine / TG 16 HDMI option
DJ Clae replied to derFunkenstein's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The thread title is such a tease. Coming up with a true digital HDMI solution for the PCE is not a matter of if, but when. Unfortunately, this is just another plug and play adapter solution that uses the existing available analog signal, like the PS2 and Dreamcast HDMI cable/adapters out there. -
How Much Overscan Should I Leave (CRT adjustment)?
DJ Clae replied to Tempest's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The geometry changes with the surrounding brightness on the screen and strength of the signal. It's also possible to have a CRT where the geometry is broken beyond repair in the menus. -
Megabits were the standard for measuring game sizes at the time in marketing for all consoles. Anyone who thinks kids were going to get excited about the number of "megaoctets" or megabytes didn't live through the 90's. Neo Geo games were expensive because of the direct rom access. The amount of masked roms on the two pcb's of each cartridge far exceeded anything available to consumers at the time, and the chips weren't cheap. The limited runs of the niche product kept the games expensive as the system aged.

YouTube ideas (AKA: Your favorite classic gaming channels)
DJ Clae replied to moycon's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Joe is Game Sack, so it should be okay without Dave, though I will miss Dave's friendly and honest reviews, as well as the banter between the pair. Thanks for the mention, Reaperman. These threads always make me sad about what I feel certain our channel could've been. My two brothers agreed to team up with me because we thought we stood more of a chance together, but they didn't share my thirst to create content. It's difficult to go on alone, especially considering the ridiculous amount of free time making videos eats up. -
BupChip better than POKEY? Finally a new audio solution for the 7800?
DJ Clae replied to aaron1677's topic in Atari 7800
Ooh, YM2413. Sega fans eat your heart out. -
How would you catch the eggs with the gun?
-
You don't need to mod the FM unit. You can connect the RGB cable to the system and a standard AV cable to the FM unit for sound. Works fine.
-
I have the 8bitdomain s-video mod kit installed in my 7800. Is this still considered to be a good mod? Is it the same as other mods still being done now?

The New Cables For Classic Consoles Thread
DJ Clae replied to blainelocklair's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The Saturn didn't need dithering to simulate more colors. It used it for transparency when graphics from one of the VDP's was overlaid on top of graphics from the other VDP. -
Sega Master System games worth importing?
DJ Clae replied to Skippy B. Coyote's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Master of Darkness, Ninja Gaiden, Power Strike II. -
For modern screens you simply must go RGB for all consoles that support it, no exception. S-video just won't cut it on an upscaler. I still don't really understand the appeal of having all the systems sitting out collecting dust. I guess it looks impressive, but from a practical standpoint it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

We've had one with the FM module for a while. We used to use it a lot with an SMS converter, but ever since we went RGB we rarely use it. The RGB output is too dim to use out of the box. Even the composite is dim compared to the Western SMS. I thought about making a cable with the RGB amp built-in, but haven't gotten around to it. I use Everdrives to recreate the experience for the most part now, though my brother still has a great collection of original SMS and Mark III games.

Problem Playing Original Xbox Game on 360
DJ Clae replied to Games Retrospect's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I had to install the partition to the hard drive at one point. It wasn't difficult. -
How best to play Devil May Cry 4 on XBone
DJ Clae replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Microsoft Xbox One
I quit on DMC2 as well, after calling the first "the new Castlevania." But then I got 4 and didn't like that either. I generally like Ninja Theory, so maybe I should try their reboot. -
The New Cables For Classic Consoles Thread
DJ Clae replied to blainelocklair's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That Retrogamingcables scart should have done the job. Some other factor is making component look better. -
The New Cables For Classic Consoles Thread
DJ Clae replied to blainelocklair's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Where did you get the scart cables? The only excuse for this is bad cables or bad equipment. Because technically the method without the conversion is better. Maybe using the HDRetrovision cable includes or is enabling a low pass filter or sync stripper that you don't have in your setup otherwise. -
What's ironic is that the best shooters didn't get released.
