Fatal Fury 2, Final Fight CD, and the Lunar Games??  That is just beyond great news!!  Fatal Fury 2 was an absolute wonder on the Genesis.

The four Sega CD titles Working Designs published, have every right to be on the U.S. version of the Sega Genesis Mini 2. If you have been keeping up with the news on this console, Popful Mail, published by Nihon Falcom in Japan was announced at launch for the Japanese console. Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue, published by Game Arts in Japan, have recently also been added to the lineup for the Japanese console.

Now, while I understand the omissions of games like 'Majandojo' and 'Harimanada' from the US release - it would appear that Working Designs, or whoever owns the IP of Working Designs (in this case, I assume it is still Victor Ireland, unless I am mistaken) is actively preventing the re-publication of these exceedingly rare experiences in the U.S. It is at this point to Working Designs' discredit that these games have not been put together into one complete package - and I used to believe that was maybe due to bad blood between Game Arts and Nihon Falcom, but now that does not appear to be the case.

The U.S. console was just announced, and more games have been revealed for the Japanese console than the U.S., but already no inclusion of Popful Mail is a huge red flag that Working Designs does not want to be a part of this project, and does not wish to see these games released in the future.

Also - while Victor used to be an active forum poster on the forum for his new game company - Gaijenworks - he has not been active in quite some time. Please tell me we are going to get remakes of the Working Designs Sega CD (OR SATURN?!?) games someday... If I am mistaken, please let me know how.

  2. As a self-proclaimed Vectrex expert, I can confidently say there is no agreed-upon list for actual release dates.

There are a few things we can go from:

Original pack-in materials (side of the system box, passport, etc.) - lists the original batch of games, i.e. Berzerk, Scramble, Cosmic Chasm.

Of those not included, we can determine a few more release dates from early '83, because they do not match the last telling sign - i.e. Narzod, Heads Up! and Star Castle

The last telling sign is how the actual game boxes are labelled. Lightpen and 3D imager games say "Graphic Computer System Cartridge" on the side of the box, rather than "Arcade System Cartridge". There are non-lightpen and non-3D games which fit this description - Pole Position and Polar Rescue - which are commonly accepted as the final commercial Vectrex releases.

Sorry I cannot be of more help, but swing on by http://vectorgaming.proboards.com/board/20/vectrex - I'm sure we'd (the Vec community) would love to see what you got! Out of 29 original releases (including 3 Lightpen, 3 3D, Mr. Boston and Minestorm 2) having 15 prototypes is HUGE news. Considering the rabid fanbase - I'd expect you'd be able to make a pretty penny from that lot ;)

Picked this up today. Nothing remarkable, but I did a double take at the price tag:

Had to have been a mistake. Either a computer or human error. The guy at the counter was even a little mad at me, as if fishing the disc out of the drawers and ringing me up was more trouble than it was worth. Just my two cents. BA-ZING

  6. The screen contrast is a bit low (but looks good) so I turn it up. Viola! a white burned out pixel right in the center and a bunch of white linies coming out of it. So, I tell them that it has a problem but I'd still buy it if they would lower the price.

I'm sorry to ruin your tale (and make you kick yourself?), but this is NOT a problem with that Vectrex. ALL Veccy's do this when their contrast knob is cranked...if they don't, the yoke is dying and in need of replacement.

The trick is to turn the contrast as high as you can, without having that white dot in the center.

The 'burned' white dot you've heard of is when you turn on the Vectrex, and nothing BUT a white dot appears on the screen.

  7. Along with aforementioned titles (Ultimate History of Video Games!) I also enjoyed Vintage Games by AAer Bill Loguidice and Matt Barton. Each chapter highlights a revolutionary game of its timeframe - and truly helped me understand the nostalgia behind Utopia, Alone in the Dark, and flight simulators, among others:
