F18A - 80 Column & Enhanced Graphics Supported Programs
kl99 replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
it could be that this version was personally handed via floppy from the Author Harald G. to the former owner of the floppy disks. from reading letters they had lot of correspondence. I also had issues with the XB 2.7 suite module. kl99 -

F18A - 80 Column & Enhanced Graphics Supported Programs
kl99 replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I had it already on a real floppy disk, either its different to what is online or we have a conversion issue. Try this file (hdx compatible), it's not a zip file (forum doesn't allow attachments without file suffix). DSRSCAN.zip -
Somebody in Australia posted a beige TI-99/4a (non 2.2). http://www.ebay.com/itm/281547104359 The interesting part is, that it seems to be a PAL model. I always thought that no PAL models have been produced in beige design. My thought was that beige TI-99 was only sold in US and therefore only NTSC. It seems I was wrong on that.

F18A - 80 Column & Enhanced Graphics Supported Programs
kl99 replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I found another 80col program working with F18A: DSRSCAN http://home.arcor.de/system-ninety-nine-user-group/util/index_e.htm http://home.arcor.de/system-ninety-nine-user-group/util/dsrscan_e.pdf http://home.arcor.de/system-ninety-nine-user-group/util/dsrscan.p99 There is one little glitch, you don't see the active Line highlighted, but that's minor to what the information that the program offers you. kl99 -
While using the cartridge in daily life, I found out there is an issue in combination with the Horizon Ramdisk Power Up Routine. It happens only after a fresh power up of my system, not a QUIT reset. The Power Up Routine from my Horizon Ramdisks normally calls the MENU and shows the first GROM Program "EXTENDED BASIC V2.7" in its list under Point C. (You can choose with key G the other GROM Programs on the cartridge.) However pressing C doesn't successfully load Extended Basic. The light for the 32K memory expansions gets turned off and the Disk Drive is not being accessed. The screen turns blank. I have to turn off the console, because there is no way of rescueing the computer. However on the MENU program which comes with ROS 8.14F you can exit MENU (powered up by Horizon) by pressing FCTN+9. Then you normally go back to the Master Titlescreen Screen customized by Bud Mills. However The Extended Basic v2.7 Suite bypasses this title screen and shows it A-Z Menu directly. There you can select A for EXTENDED BASIC V2.7 which then loads fine. 32K flashes up two times, disk drive is accessed for LOAD. Extended Basic is ready to play with. Once you now reset the machine with QUIT, the Horizon MENU comes up again, now for some reason, pressing C works to load Extended Basic V2.7. It would not be such a big issue, if not the same thing would happen with the program BOOT (F18A compatible) where you don't have the option to exit. So if I use BOOT to be autoexecuted during booting, I have no option to go into XB 2.7 and no option to exit and enter the A-Z menu from the Suite.

can you show some game photos? with sprites and stuff? I wonder how much of this could be integrated into the F18A firmware.

mine didn't turn green but i thought this thread is the most appropiate to append with this info. depending which "pins" are getting shortcut, it gives you a nice color flicker effect on the display, looking very analog

It seems that the header cable is not fully isolated. Another user of our group and myself experienced some shortcuts when the metal shield of the mainboard gets pushed onto the header cable. It is easily fixed with some tape over the red spot that is marked in the photo. Thanks goes to Gerhard W. for finding out the source of the problem on his machine. Once it happend on my 99er as well, it was an easy fix.

How to mount 2 Half Height Drives in a PEB WITHOUT DRILLING
kl99 replied to wyerd's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I love this step-by-step instruction as well. just placed an order for this for my new PEB to mount 2 disk drives into it. However I got way better prices from this seller, which seem to sell the same items: http://hello-cables.com/legacy.html Examples: TI99-4 2-Disk Cable and Bracket Set only costs $6.47 compared to $15.58 http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/hello-cables/L1165 http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/cabled/L1165 TI99/4a Side Port Extension only costs $12.17 compared to $29.32 http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/hello-cables/L1172 http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/cabled/L1172 TI99/4a Side Port Splitter 16 inches only costs $18.81 compared to $45.32 http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/hello-cables/L1173 http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/cabled/L1173 -
Merry christmas! I had an awesome 99-themed christmas. My girlfriend is an awesome one! I not only got one boxed Ti-99 console under the christmas tree, but even two. One even included all the french accessories (RGB Scart modulator), the other one some rare german broschures. Both consoles are in pristine condition! Then I got a still boxed TI Extended Basic module, the Echecs cartridge (Video Chess), and a Navarone DBM cartridge. An awesome looking Texas Instruments Cup and a heavy medaille from TI (Portugal) that must have been handed out to employees back in the days.

I used the Hama 2-3 video converter with an European TI-99/4a console with success on a VGA beamer. The European TI-99/4a has a slightly different VDP chip which doesnt feature Composite but a Y-U-V kind signal. Use this as input for the Hama converter, and use the VGA ouput. I didn't try a VGA monitor yet, Fred Kaal described he had problems with it. http://ti99-geek.nl/Projects/hama_converter/hama_converter.html The Hama 2-3 video converter is no longer produced but they show up on ebay, i got mine for 10 bucks I think.

can you change the question about the Lantronix, so people like me that bought a device but haven't hooked it up yet can still answer something more meaningful than "No"?

Looks like my FDC is faulty. How can I test? - NOW WORKING
kl99 replied to wyerd's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
nice to know it worked out in the end. There is another tool from mizapf that you should take a look in: http://www.ninerpedia.org/index.php/TIImageTool Have fun with your TI! -
that's indeed good news, his site is an awesome knowledge collection and speaks for itsself.

can you outline the differences/advantages between IV254 and the PRG format?

kl99 replied to wyerd's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
afaik another check would be to compare the SIZE values in XB with and without the Disk controller Card. If the DISK DSR initializes, it reserves part of the memory for its file buffer and io handling. And isn't the TI Diagnostics on your XB 2.7 to try out? BR Klaus -
Just connected my PEB for the first time........
kl99 replied to wyerd's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Related to this topic of first time connecting the PEB I wonder if anybody knows about the power requirements for the PEB. Can the American PEB be used with european 220V power or should it only be used in Europe with a 110v transformer? Specifically asking about the older push-button PEB, if that makes a difference. The label says 115Vac on the American PEB, while the label on the European PEBs says 110/115Vac, 220/240Vac. Anybody has any knowledge on this? -
can I actually save a file in PROGRAM format from within a XB program? - SAVE is only allowed in command mode. - OPEN/PRINT seem to only create DIS/VAR, DIS/FIX, INT/VAR, INT/FIX but not filetype: PROGRAM. If not then I probably have to jump into assembler for that.
-
can't you directly call with the help of assembler whatever GPL/GROM method is called when the system finds out that it has too few vdp space available? or you can try to play with CALL FILES(9) or directly play with the highest address VDP address by setting CPU RAM >8370.
-
is this also triggered when reaching a certain program length within TI-Basic or solely in TI XB? I will check my docs...
