  1. I had the exact same thing happen to mine, turned out to be easy, it had fried bug guts in the power connector between the boards and the logic board was not getting +5V. If you're not interested in doing it yourself i'd love to dig in to it and make some Vec repair vids. PM if interested.
  2. That's hilarious! I've never seen that, so perfect for so many, many posts like this! No offense...
  3. Send it to me so I can make more Vectrex repair vids!
  4. My first Vectrex, bought broken for what I thought was a fair price, but the fix turned out to be stupid easy! http://youtu.be/qtwkW2-gsIo
  5. I suggest removing the sink off the rgb chip before it falls off on its own and shorts out some circuits inside the console! It's not glued very well.
  6. Nonsense, just squeeze the two fins together and it falls off every time...
  7. I have a bunch of boards I designed from these schematics and I prolly have plenty of whichever console you want on hand including 6ers, woody and darth 4 switchers, Jrs, and Geminis. PM me.
  8. Yeah most likely there are several bad caps. If you have any soldering skill check out the I did on how I do cap replacement on the Duo.If you don't want to risk breaking it, send it to me and i'll fix you up. If it needs a new laser I have some in stock. Prices are on my website - www.game-tech.us
  9. Jap AC adapters are rated for 100volts but i've never heard of any issue using them on 120 volts (US standard). Stay away from the white pc engine unless you have a booster with composite out to use with it. You can also have it modded so it will play US hucards, cd games are not region specific, but some do require a super or arcade system card to work.
  10. Here's links to four Turbo Duo videos I recently made. They are somewhat tutorial. Turbo Duo - TurboGrafx-16 - LED Mod full walk through http://youtu.be/CYUD0yPIWec Turbo Duo - TurboGrafx-16 - Region mod AKA Country Switch - full walk through http://youtu.be/HNLvU_wCL6w Turbo Duo - TurboGrafx-16 - Full Capacitor Replacement http://youtu.be/XjauOGwmKH8 Turbo Duo - TurboGrafx-16 - RCA jacks instal http://youtu.be/G5_DTYv0KDA
  11. Really?!?! Hmmm, there were around 610,000 nes top loaders made and I see a couple dozen or more a week sell on ebay, but I doubt that many VB's go up, maybe a lot of them were trashed due to ppl not liking the interface.
  12. In that case do what I did, put in the time and effort, learn eagle, use the posted schematics and lay out your own board. Its very satisfying...
  13. I had a huge batch of boards made and I can just sell you one or more for like $3 a board, they are the Batari version.
  14. I have a customer interested in wireless controllers, but the only ones I know of id even try to fix are a couple of sets of RF ones I have. However, I won't touch em if they don't function properly when in a proper working order, and or are not worth the hassle to repair. If there already exists such a thread move, although I have little to no use for necro-posting... Here's what i'm talking about:
  15. Agreed, check out the I just did on nes controller port pins on the mobo being cracked, easy to identify and fix.
  16. It does sound like a chip is going bad, as they get hotter and act worse it's a bad sign.
  17. Are you sure its not the tv, does it show up on multiple tvs? Have you tried other AC adapters? I put up a on how an AC that's too small can cause issues.http://youtu.be/vaRQQm-z3Ns Also, did you do the mod or did the guy on ebay do it? Do you know if he checked the capacitors? I would also suggest trying other AV cables, but you said the bars were there before so I assume you meant also on RF as well as now on composite and or svid?
  18. Your best bet to is to checkout screen shots, chris covell has some great ones on his site.
  19. Fun fact, I spotted on of these in the background of Earth Final Conflict season 1, but I didn't take note of which episode. It was obviously placed there to look 'futuristic'!
  20. Yes the flux is sticky and helps with placement some. The pen is very convenient. You'll see in the tutorial vids that the chisel tip is referred, mostly for heat transfer reasons. I use one that is around 3mm wide. I use .020" mutli core solder, I tried .025 and found it to be too much in smd work. I also had some .015, usually too thin and you have to feed so much onto a normal through hole joint.
  21. I think you're talking about the flux pen, I don't talk about it everytime I use it, but all it does is apply more flux to pads or whatever i'm about to solder. I use it a lot for smd work and any oxidized metal I want to solder to like resistor legs in old consoles or the infamous pin 21 of the nes ppu. My iron is 40W adjustable and is usually set about about 2/3. One big secret is the tip. The best soldering vids i've seen are from Dave at EEVblog, here is the youtube soldering .
  22. I finally took the time to finish this mod and get it documented on youtube, .The details: I pulled comp video at the junction of R40, R42, and R22. Also, removed R43, R41, and R51. The last one powers the RF modulator, the first two helped with brightness etc. I also used a 220uF cap in line with the comp video.
