  1. My apologies to everyone who has sold me stuff in the Marketplace: I have not been putting in user feedback. I am going back through everything to make sure I can give everyone their due feedback.

Of course. They've conned me into buying it at least four separate times, and I'm sure I'll probably buy it again sometime down the road.

  4. Bummed that my beloved SonyEricsson C905a succumbed to the GPSpocalypse. I guess SE did not consider any fools using the phone 10 years later.

But aren't like 50% of all the dudes on every team Canadian?

    4. ls650

The percentage of NHL players who are from Canada has fallen to 46.1%, according to data collected by QuantHockey.com. Meanwhile, the percentage of US-born players in the NHL is up to 25.7%, its highest level ever.

  7. I used Acronis' "contact us" sales form to inquire about licenses. Never received an answer but now I get its newsletter.

Ahh yes the relentless desire of companies to shove their wares in your face.

Except for Oracle and Solaris licenses... who I have tried to contact for several years.

    3. carlsson

Perhaps Oracle has this old C64 cracker attitude: "Don't spread this to lamers!"

  8. In what has to be my best performance, I just told one of those car warranty robo-callers that I was feeling like I can't live anymore. He hung up.

When I renewed registration on my Chrysler 300, it must have triggered those warranty places to call me. They get mighty nippy when they find they've wasted time getting info on a 1966 300, lol

    4. GoldLeader

      Wow! I didn't know you'd warranty a car that's 53 years old! *click*

  9. QuickBooks Support SUUUUUUUUCKS!! And this is for a Premium account!

    1. jaybird3rd

I'm glad I haven't had to work with QuickBooks in years. Nothing but a gigantic headache.

Some things have changed with the 2019 version's database engine. My guess is the changes were meant to avoid the DNS server conflicts when installed on a domain controller, but it has not only become a major pain but they cannot get it working on our 2012R2 server.

    3. jaybird3rd

The QuickBooks database engine has always been rinky-dink. We always had lots of corruption issues, and we had to kick everyone off and switch to single-user mode to do any kind of maintenance. It's a *little* better than Microsoft Access, but not by much.

  10. I don't know who the target demo is for QuickBooks Support's hold message, but it's damned condescending.

    1. jd_1138

Condescending message combined with Muzak version of "Baby's Got Back".

Those who don't like Microsoft may say so. I had a drive fail in a server array which caused three virtual machine VHDs to corrupt, as well. I've been able to clean all but one and it's fighting every step.

  17. Am I the only one who gets a little excited watching the Munch-Man demo get a new high score?

    1. jaybird3rd

Munchman is so much fun! One of my favorites for the 99/4A. Have you tried Munchman II?

    2. save2600

Both games are great! Especially love the early version where you're eating dots instead of laying a chain - though have to admit, laying the chain comes easier to me. Can see what's left to finish better.

Oh, yeah. I saved up a week's-worth of lawn mowing to buy Munchman II, Beyond Parsec, and Midnight Mason. MMII was a quick favorite.

    1. SlidellMan

Is it true that you should heat the work first before the solder?

    2. OLD CS1

      OLD CS1

Not sure what you mean, but I have two bits of advice both taught and learned. You want to touch the pad, not the component if you can avoid it, but you can also touch the solder. If everything is clean then it will flow and stick where it is supposed to. Heating a board before working can help with stubborn solder joints on large grounding planes or particularly wide paths which act as heat-sinks making it damn near impossible to flow the solder. I have never done this and it would seem to m...

@MrMaddog: Not really. I remember back in the Win95 days getting updates that screwed your machine up. (IE4 and Active Desktop, I'm looking at you!)
