  1. TI Speech Synthesizer audio and power pass-through Updated

Modifications for passing-through AUDIOIN and +5V. The AUDIOIN modification allows use of devices like Marc Hull's SIDMaster99 as the Speech Synthesizer "steals" this line for its own use and does not pass it from the PEB. The +5V power pass-through is good for powering devices like the nanoPEB†, CF7+†, and jedimatt's 32k expansion.

This is one of four Speech Synthesizers I modified tonight and probably wound up being the best done all things considered.

† nanoPEB and CF7+ require modifications to be powered from the TI console.

  2. THEC64 Mini Videos Updated

Video captures from THEC64 Mini during evaluation and testing using "Pixel Perfect" display mode.

Original videos are 720p (1280x720) at 60Hz for most, and 50Hz for many of the demos. Scaled to 576x320 to chop off unused border space and halve size for the gallery. Encoding is H.264 video and variable bit-rate (VBR) MP3 audio in an FLV container for the gallery's Flash-based video player.

  3. Indus GT (Commodore) innards and power port replacement Updated

This Indus GT suffered a little abuse and the power port had to be replaced. The innards are pretty impressive and this is a well-built drive. I understand more why this was so expensive at the time.

Select photos from the eclipse. Disappointed with the quality of the photos, but these are some of the better ones.

  6. TI-99/4A "Alpha Lock" fix Updated

Quick fix to prevent the ALPHA LOCK from interfering with the TI joystick. Pin 6 from the connector feeds the ALPHA LOCK switch, simple trace cut and a diode. From http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/console/alpha_lock.html

Note that even with this fix in place, some modules (notably "Beyond Parsec") will require that you release the ALPHA LOCK before continuing.

  9. Sega Nomad MK-6102 Battery Pack Updated

Innards of a Sega MK-6102 NiMH rechargeable battery pack for the Sega Nomad. I tried finding pictures of the insides on-line and was unsuccessful, so I had to make my own.

  10. Amiga 4000 IDE terminator Updated

Pictures of a home-crafted IDE terminator designed to prevent Kickstart from scanning the IDE buss when no devices are present, making boot-up from SCSI faster. Some accelerators, such as the CyberStorm Mark III, have the ability to bypass the IDE port.

  11. Amiga 30 Updated

My visit to the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, for the 30th Anniversary. There will not be a lot of photos as it is difficult to participate and journal simultaneously, but I will be putting up the things I found to be the most eye-catching.

(Any pictures without captions will be captioned soon enough; these are a lot to go through!)

  12. Unboxing "new" TI PEB Updated

I received my NOS (new old stock) Texas Instruments PEB (Peripheral Expansion Box) model PHP-1200 today.

This is like taking a step back in time. For 31 years (give or take,) this PEB has been sitting in near stasis. (I say "near" because the inside of the lid has rusted a little.) It was built, boxed, closed up, shipped to the Dhein's TruValue Hardware store in Waterloo, IA, and has sat there until being retrieved and shipped to me. So far as it knows, it was closed up in the TI factory in Lubbock, TX, and opened up in my office in Florida.

This is like reaching back in time. It is pristine, just like it left the factory yesterday. This is a great feeling.

  14. Axil 320 with SSD Updated

Axil 320 SparcStation 20 clone from 1994 running a 64GB SSD via SCSI-to-SATA adapter. This process was completed by coping all file systems from the old SCSI drives to the new SSD via ufsdump and ufsrestore, then applying the proper boot block. The system now runs much more quietly and cool, though performance does not seem to have increased much.

  16. Commodore 64C Power LEDs Updated

Power LEDs for Commodore 64C cases, original or Kickstarter. 17cm (~7in) for use with the C64 Rev. E (64C) mainboard or the C64 Reloaded MK-II. These are not long enough for the "bread-bin" or C64 Reloaded boards.
