  1. If YouTube started tracking and penalizing for when videos get muted, do you think people would stop putting annoying soundtracks on their videos?

    1. Keatah

They might. Most of the time they just don't know any better.

    2. carlsson

Oh, you're not referring to copyright infringement, but perfectly legal backgrounds that are aesthetically awful and people choose to mute the sound before YouTube has removed it themselves.

    3. save2600

I noticed recently that ALL vids I've been looking at lately are muted. Requester in upper left asks to unmute... and it's not a prefs thing as I don't have a YT account.

  2. If you must use the restroom while eating hot wings, remember to wash your hands before unpacking equipment.

      hot wings plate = 8US$

Scratching your nuts in agony for 20 mins because you forgot to wash your hands = priceless

If you are a lady and also end up needing to scratch your crotch area please contact me and tell me what you did to get into that state.

    3. TheTIGuy

There is something wrong with you, phoenix.

  3. Nostalgia and love are largely indistinquishable from each other in terms of both emotion and expense.

    1. WIZZARD77

It's the pursuit of love that costs alot. Once you find it the little things mean more than the expensive stuff.

But an Atari won't touch your winky. She will do it for dinner and a movie or cash or fixing her car or cleaning out her gutters.

@atari2600land: Well played! In particular since I tend to be pedantic over acronyms, but sometimes I give into popular culture and leave out the periods.

  5. Supporting QuickBooks can be like drinking a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, but without the fun...

    1. jaybird3rd

I feel your pain. I maintained a QuickBooks server for a few years at a previous job. The accountants and bookkeepers who spend all day in it seem to love it, but what a miserable program.

    2. Tickled_Pink

All accounting software is miserable. You should give SAGE a whirl. Then you'd wish QuickBooks was all there was.

I did write a cmd script to set Windows firewall for QB which has made my life easier. Oh, trust me, I also support PeachTree (now Sage.) Both definitely have their own, um, quirks even though they run the same database back-end (Pervasive.)

  6. Irma passed through with not a bang but a whimper. We get more trouble and damage from our summer afternoon squals! All my best to those who weren't so fortunate.

    1. Keatah

      A powderpuff..

    2. JFD62780

Well, it WAS a Cat. 5 Amazon of a hurricane. Until it turned Due North. Then the actual state of Florida weakened it enough to be meeeehhhh... tolerable...

    3. NE146

As someone who's literally boarded up for dozens of "super" typhoons that turned out to be powderpuffs, there's that one time it was expected to be a powderpuff, then as we sat in the kitchen eating snacks, we noticed the wind sharply rose to 150+ mph and suddenly the roof of our garage was being torn off. We had to run out during the eye to board up. Just saying.. you really never know either way. ;P

  7. For those concerned, I am in an area of Florida which is not expected to take a major hit from Irma, though we will be affected with at least tropical storm conditions. I am ready, prepared, and will be fine. Of course, the only problem with being ready so early is the waiting...

Make sure you have gas in all your cars. Looks like Florida is running low on gas, just like here in Texas.

    3. Iwantgames:)

Yea no gas in my area

  8. I am still around. Bunch of stuff pulling me in multiple directions, including a completely unprofessional state agency absolutely screwing me (wildly understated) on what was to be my upcoming contract, then thinking I might be available if something serious was to occur.

      Hang in there.

I can't help but wondering if I had a gofundme project what I would get. Other than that..

It's been discussed in various threads what and why. It would be a curious thing to see if anyone would fund our hobby, maybe under the guise of "marital support." I got to visit this tough little five year-old boy this weekend and he's doing very well, considering.

  10. Is it really so much to ask that software developers honor my Windows settings which disable all the ClearType and font smoothing? Mozilla, Microsoft: looking at you!

  11. Your politics, in the short-term, is reflective of how you live and want to live your life. In the long-term, politics directly affects how you must live your life.

  14. Backed Fastloader's "Ninja Musicology" remixes of the "Last Ninja" series. The downloads for backers are up, and I'm damn glad I backed. Well done! I'll be jamming at the office for the next week or so.

  16. Thank you to those who served and serve, made it home and never came back.

  17. Anyone around here program in Regina REXX, I would appreciate a PM: having trouble re-opening a file after it is (supposedly) closed.

  18. Finding a working 1571 in storage with a SuperCard Plus installed is like an early Christmas present!

  19. In both my personal and vicarious experience, the fatal mistake of most relationships is the belief that one person in the relationship can change the other. This often includes the belief that inherent personality flaws are merely behavioral quirks which can be over-come.

    1. GoldLeader

Damn straight! You are Very Correct! I used to have this girlfriend who said, "Girls get into relationships thinking they can change the guy, and Guys get into relationships thinking things will stay the same."

  20. Converting music from PAL (50Hz, 20ms frames) to NTSC (60Hz, 16.6ms frames) -- that ~4ms makes a big, painful difference :(

    2. BillyHW

      Huge congratulations! =D

    2. doctorclu

Awesome! (We have a girl here) ? :D

    3. Tickled_Pink

To me it sounded like a bit of sexual frustration. So the bride's maid aint much of a looker then?

Certainly helped me recover numerous times from surgery.

I am glad I am rarely in pain or need of anything like that. I cannot take it, it makes my heartbeat extremely irregular so I have to stick with plain old aspirin.

  24. Tea mixed with lemonade is called an "Arnold Palmer." I call an unsweet tea mixed with sugar a "Caitlyn Jenner." If you enjoy sweet tea, I think you understand.

@Osgeld: Yeah, I am not a big pop-culture fiend. You might say I live under a rock since I do not watch TV or listen to the radio, nor participate in social media. Plus, when I came up with that today at the office I decided to run it through a Google search to make sure someone else had no claim it, and lo! Seven months (apparently) and no one had posted anything that Google picked up. Well, since Google knows all and sees all, I assumed it is a fairly original way to describe trying...

    2. ls650

Huh? I don't get it either.
