  1. That is an MPI Model 51, also known as the "disk chucker" due to the tendency to send the disks flying out of the drive when opening the door. It is a solid, reliable drive though. . .and there is also a double-sided version, model number MPI-52, but TI didn't supply those for the PEB, you had to buy them from third parties.

By far one of the most technically in-depth manuals I have read. (Floppy-related.)

  2. Don't get me started on cell phones guys, I may end ranting like an old coot. I agree with Keetah, like most everything, the cellphone industry is audacious when it comes to digging into the pockets of the stupid gullible. It boggles my mind that they've convinced so many mindless drones into standing in line FOR HOURS to fork over hundreds of dollars for the 'next version' for simple things like 'button placement' or some other 'aesthetic variance'.

After paying through the nose for the phone, they get consumers to bend over every month for more 'monetary action'... all while the companies continually spy on your metadata... ALL AT YOUR EXPENSE. What a freaking racket!

Things must be good on the business side of things as I see phone center stores on nearly every street corner and in every mall, sometimes more than one in a mall.

While my selection of on-phone programs has dwindled, this is my phone below. But that is another conversation altogether.

  3.

I would not worry about that! Sure, the truth can hurt the biased, but information can also be very useful to people, saving them money and trouble in the future. In the end the decision is theirs, but to me the biggest crime is intimidating others into being silent, usually for their own selfish interests.

Hold your tongue. I sense much heresy in his post. The Amiga lords are not pleased ;)

I actually find it a darn shame as my Amiga experience was quite the opposite.

  4. I do love me some good remakes. Someone is remaking the obscure A400/C64 game Trolls & Tribulations for PC which I loved as a kid as well.

I will die for this. One of my faves. Been working on assets for a TI-99/4A conversion.

  5. Right, and I have a SCP just a few hours south of you.

    EDIT:

I have someone that's coming to our Atlanta Historical Computing society meeting next month with a Kyroflux and another guy coming with whatever that other one was. Hopefully we can get them dumped. I'm having a horrific time getting the HxC floppy emulator to write the disk properly from a copy with COPY-C.

    Coolio.

  6. I always thought the Sun SPARCstation IPX was rather sexy in its own right. Chunky little thing with a surprising amount of power under the hood. A "mo-ped" kind of sexy.

Though, this might be just a bit too far. But it does bring a question to my mind: of all these sexy computers, in which one would you want to be buried?

Could not find a good image of one; this one is the largest (and an IPC which, aside from the grey feet instead of Sun purple, is very close to the IPX in looks.) I still have one sitting under my desk. I may do a photo session with it. Sadly one of the capacitors in its power supply leaked and aside from getting capacitor goo all over the place the power supply popped and I am not convinced something on the board did not pop with it.

  7. Look on the Hexbus archive, it is there as well. Ernie scanned it in, and he always tried to find good copies for his scans. That is usually a good starting spot to see if any of our books have been scanned, and look at the Italian site to find scans of things in languages other than English.

That being the case, does anyone collect these books for posterity? I have no interest in doing so.

  8. Not certain how this came into my possession, but I have the 1983 "Micronova's Home Computer Directory for the TI-99/4(A)." Archive.org has a copy up but mine is in better condition. I looked briefly at WHT and the only thing there looks like a thumbnail. If this is useful I will scan it up, of course that means removing the binding staples.

  9. Heh, Does not work on solid state modules.... :)

    well played, sir.... well played.......

I had to state something which would be obvious to those who know without using a brand name. One of my auctions was killed because I said it was not for the Commodore -- brand abuse and search manipulation. Ah, well.

  10. After one of my complaints a buyer's account was deleted -- I may not have been the reason but I might have been the "final straw." Sure, like anywhere else they could set up a new or use a different account, which I have seen done. As well, it is possible to go after a bad buyer civilly if you can claim damages and the buyer is in your country as eBay sales are legal contracts.

Bad buyers on eBay are little different than many other on-line services. As others have said, it is one of the necessary evils of dealing via anonymous transactions rather than face-to-face. But even face-to-face I have dealt with some shady customers. I fully understand this is the part of doing business with which many individuals do not want to deal, but making blanket definitive statements is useless.
