  1. From the IMs it looks like this controller presses down all the time, even if the RF mod is not present on Column3. This could have been found during the first step, test your controller before modding.

There are 6 wires for the mod:

Two are power.  Make sure to get those right.  Very important.

    Two are for the led.

One is for the mod inserting into Column3, see the table below.

One is for the mod presenting a new Column3, which I call NewB to the top controller pcb.

If you remove green and blue wires from the cut Column3 ribbon wire and then reconnect Column3 ribbon wire, then effectively the mod is not present (besides drawing power if the power wires are still connected).  Notice the mod can only effect the signals in Column3, notice direction uses Column4.  Hence the reason the RF mod cannot cause a direction issue.

I have used the instructions posted in the first post to install the mod around 25 times.  The instructions are very solid.

In general I do not recommend the RF mod for beginner.  It requires intermediate skill level for stock controllers and higher skill level for repro pro controller.  Before buying mod read through those instructions and see if you are comfortable with the tool list and steps to install.  In the first post, I posted pictures of the mod installed in all 3 controller types.  The pictures are full size and you can zoom in.  They make a good reference.  For those who don't have the ability to install, but still want RF, then just buy a pre-modded controller.  If anyone bought a mod kit and can't install it due to modding ability, I'm happy to take it back if its unused.  Just send me an IM.

  2. Just placed my first order with JLCPCB.  Its a super easy PCB, so hopefully it goes well.

I did notice something on the PCBWay website.  If you were going to order a standard pcb, you could save a bit using the quick order option.  In my case it was $31 for standard PCB, and $20 for quick order PCB - using all the same options.  DHL shipping with quick order was also $4 less.

  3. This project is likely delayed until 2021.

After adding rapid fire and playing Raiden, I need to figure out if LS-33, LS-33 with short throw or LS-40 joystick is the best balance for both Total Carnage and Raiden.  I also need to play around with rapid fire button location as the spot it would normally go is already taken up by the alternate B and C buttons that making playing Total Carnage really nice with the twin stick.

  4. I would say the nice thing about the China based PCB makers is the price and the options.  You can really get the board you want.  OSHPark has very few options.  So even for small runs I might switch to PCBWay or jlcpcb.  Jlcpcb seems to have the lowest cost.

  5. I have made the pre-modded controllers I'm going to make in 2020.  They are listed for sale in the first post.  I don't mind making more kits, but I need to move on to other projects.
